> 14 YEARS AGO, MARCH 15, 195« The culmination of a five-year rebuilding and remodeling program will be realized Saturday by Kosciusko lodge 418, Free and Accepted Masons, with open house and formal dedication ceremonies of the Masonic Temple in Milford. The Elkhart Blue Blazers went all the way in the semi-finals of the Indiana state basketball tournament played at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum Saturday afternoon and evening. Miss Esther Getz gave a miscellaneous bridal shower at her home Thursday evening for Miss Florence Beer. Miss Getz was assisted by Mrs. Wayne Riggs, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Victor Beer. Fifty-five guests were present. Miss Frances Stieglitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stieglitz, was chosen vice president of the YPCA at Goshen college March 8. Callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Beer Sunday afternoon were Theo Beer, Marion Beer, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Beer. Milford, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beer and Joel Beer, Mansfield. Ohio. Services for Mrs. Bertha Alice Doty, wife of Dwight Doty, were held Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Harlan Smith officiating. Mrs. Doty died Saturday, March 10, at the home of her sister. Mrs. Harry Slusser, Lake Wawasee, after and illness of two years. She was 60 years and nine months old. 24 YEARS AGO. MARCH 14, 1946 The people of Milford and community turned out about 250 strong Friday night to do honor to our local basketball team, the Trojans. Mr. and Mrs. John Linn of 206 west Walnut street, Nappanee, announce the marriage of their youngest daughter. June, to James Clayton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Thomas Clayton of Milford. Captain Charles Purdum, Jr., received his discharge from the army recently and arrived in Milford March 1 to begin his period of terminal leave. He arrived in the United States frow Japan on February 23. Eldon Homan, who spent a 30day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell E. Homan, left Sunday for Charleston, S. C., where he will return to duty. Mr. and Mrs. Dane Rarick moved to the Sam Hizey farm instead of the Klopenstein farm. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mullins entertained at the Milford Case at a dinner on Sunday for Miss Alice Gibson in honor of her 18th birthday and for the Misses Bernice and Eudora Grove. 30 YEARS AGO, MARCH 14. 1940 A birthday dinner was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bird Sunday in honor of their daughter, Mrs. John Augsburger, whose birthday was Sunday, and in honor of their son-in-law, Albert Graff, whose birthday was Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Musser. Walter Beer of Syracuse spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Beer. The 3d annual Indiana Sportsmen’s and Boat Show will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Manufacturer's Building at the state fairgrounds, with admission being 40c for adults and 25c for children. Postmaster Felkner felt sure the government owed him $6 when he recently completed his income tax return, until he. to his own chagrin, found the error in his figures. Late Saturday night Odell Troup, owner of Rich's Smoke House, moved the location of his recrea- * tion room from the Charles Hammond building on Main street to the building owned by David Hill on south Main street. 40 YEARS AGO, MARCH 13, 1930 M. D. Neff of near New Paris, a former resident of Milford, o- " pened his sugar camp about ten days earlier than usual this year and has been making some fine maple syrup. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Scarlett and daughter, who returned recently from Florida, had a very enjoyable trip. Mr. Scarlett says they found business in all lines very dull and that business enterprise had been at a standstill for some time. It was a common thing to see buildings of every description, including some large hotels and apartmient houses which had been started and never completed. , Otto Beer was taken to the Elkhart hospital Saturday where he underwent an operation for appendicitis. Herman Weisser, student aviator, has had on display in our office for several days, a miniature monoplane which he built during spare hours of the past two months. Mr. Weisser is a student in aviation and the completion of the little plane is a part of his study. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Muffley of west of Milford on Djursday, March 6, at 12:30 p.m. The boy weighed 6*2 pounds and was named Richard Frank. Milford was nosed out of the high school basketball race in the first game of the regional at Auburn by a final score of Auburn 21 and Milford 19.
