Basketball Team Closes Season With 1-4 Record The Leesburg grade finished the season basketball games with a one win and four loss record. Those who were on the team were Rusty and John Creighton' David Moody, Paul ■ Smith, Rick Hatcher, Jack Moody, David Coppees, Randy Willard. Mitch Rader, Kerry Skees and Dirk Felger. Bruce Stevens is the student manager and Gary Austin, coach. The cheerleaders were: Tammie Klopenstein, Diane Anglin, Barb Teeple Craig Charlton was the mascot. LEESBURG HOMEMAKERS MEET MARCH 11 The Leesburg Homemakers club met on Wednesday March 11 at the home of Mrs Mabie Krouse The business meeting was conducted by the president Mrs Chet Albert All members repeated the pledge to the flag and the club creed The history of the song of the month "Go Down Moses” was *given by Mrs Kenneth Miller Mrs Herschel Albert read the 23d Psalm for meditation. Health and safety remarks on varicose veins was given by Mrs. ✓Herschel Albert Garden I remarks were given by Mrs. Emra Stookey An interesting lesson on New Fabrics was given by Mrs Charles Smoker, stressing to watch closely when buying imported fabrics So many of these aren t % good Buy brand name garments and material so the company will stand behind it. Keep labels off clothing purchased She suggested making a file with each family member’s name, and filing these labels as to know whether to wash or dryclean the garments Roll call was answered by "A new fabric you would like a dress made of." There were 11 members present Delicious refreshments were,served by the hostess —L—GIRL SCOUT TROOP 219 MEETS The girl scout troop 219, met Wednesday at the United Methodist church The girl scout pledge and 'the pledge to the American flag was repeated The cookie sheets and money were turned m from the saile of their cookies They have started to make caterpillar's out of yarn for their project It will take a couple of weeks to complete it Anita Craig and Tammie Hoffer put on a skit for the active citizen badge

EASTERN STAR MEETS MARCH 1C The Eastern Star held their meeting in the lodge hall. Mrs. Jean Gift, worthy matron, opened with a poem “March.” liie members elected Marta Wiseman and Lois Lundy to receive the degrees, initiation will be held March 24. A memorial service was held for Josephine Brown, a past worthygrand matron. Mrs. Gift, read a poem to the officers entitled “A Thousand Thanks to You " A >personal thought to each of the officers and thanked everyone for their cooperation. The March 24tfo meeting will be Mrs. Gift’s last meeting as worthy matron. Refreshments were sandwiches. potato chips and coffee. Mrs. Keith Felton was in charge of them * Installation will be March 28 at 8. p.m. at the lodge hall. BROWNIE TROOP 220 MEETS The brownie troop 220 met Tuesday in the school cafeteria. Delana Schue gave the pledge to the American flag and Holly Rookstool gave the brownie pledge Projects were made for Saint Patrick's day. They were Saint Patrick's day candle to be for centerpieces to be given to their parents Angie Lynch served the refreshments. —L—LEESBURG LIONS MEET THURSDAY The Leesburg Lions club met Thursday March 12. in the Leesburg United Methodist church with 52 members and guestS present, including four members of the Rochester Lions club and deputy district governor Elmer Zimmerman and zone chairman Floyd Himebaugh of charge of the dining room Virgil Edwards was inducted as a new member Howard Wilson of the Cardinal Learning , Center was the evening's speaker. Mrs Charles Smoker was in charge of the kitchen committee and Mrs. Robert Smoker was in charge of the diningroom. LYDIA CIRCLE MEETS WEDNESDAY The W.S.C.S. Lydia Circle of the United Methodist church met with Mrs. Robert W. Bishop, last Wednesday. Mrs. James Hearn gave the lesson and Mrs Don Brookins gave the meditations Chairman Mrs Robert Smoker, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. James Hearn closed the meeting with prayer. Refreshments were served to the ten members present.

The rehearsal for the Easter Cantata of the United Methodist church will be this Thursday evening. The Cantata “Easter Song” by Peterson will be sung by the Chancel Choir. Mrs. Bernice Watkins and Mrs Ruth Deatsman ate Sunday dinner at an area restaurant and then visited with Mrs. Nellie Randall of Warsaw in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vanator and Barbara«went to Sturgis. Mich., Sunday to visit with Mr. Vanator's sister, and family. Mr. aijd Mrs Noel Wiley. Bryan. Scott and Jennifer. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Polk returned last week from Adamstown. Penn Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Polk of Claypool stayed with the Polk children. Mrs. Clarence Blue. Jr., was dismissed recently from the Whitley county hospital. Mrs. Donald Fox of Milford, sister to Mrs. Dallis Popenfoose, recently visited with Mrs. Popenfoose. Eldon “Pete” Sumpter of Warsaw, brother to Mrs. Ed Martin, is in the Robert Long hospital at Indianapolis. Mrs. Hugh McCann, was guest of honor to a birthday dinner in her honor at an area restaurant. Those who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Croop of Warsaw. Mrs. Nellie Anglin. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hartman and sons, and Hugh McCann, all of Leesburg. Mrs. Nettie Teeple is spending the week with her brother. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lippencott of South Bend. Mrs. Herb Metge is in the South Bend Osteopathic hospital for tests. Steve Tarner went with a group of young people from the Free Methodist church of Winona Lake, to Greenville college in Greenville, 111., over the week end for college days. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Robison are on a business trip to Southern Indiana and Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Butch Hamman, youth director, of the Calvarybaptist church, Oswego spent Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs Robert Teeple and family. They brougnz a birthday cake to celebrate Barbara's birthday. Visitors on Saturday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bixler, was Mr. Bixler’s sister and her family. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Franks and family from Atwood. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allen and family spent the week end with Mr and Mrs. Herman Allen of Fennville, Michigan. Tammie Klopenstein spent all night with Barbara Teeple Friday night to celebrate Barbara’s birthday. Charles Lyons was home over the week end to visit with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Lyons. Mr. and Mrs. Esta Yocum recently visited with Mr. and Mrs. Elza Bawl of Claypool. The Oswego Calvary Baptist church, is sponsoring a skating party to be held on March 24. at the Winona Lake skating rink. The basketball conference banquet was held at Plymouth last night. All varsity boys from Warsaw attended. The Narthex, including Memorial window, of the United Methodist church, has just been completed and the dedication* service will be forthcoming. The pastor's interest class of the United Methodist church, will be recessed until April 13. To Continue Slide Program On Holy Land Rev Robert Mundy of the Wawasee Heights Baptist church will continue his slide program on the Holy Land Sunday evening. March 22. at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Mundy has recentlyreturned from a tour of the Holy Land and other countries of that area. He reported a large crowd of approximately 175 persons were on hand last week to see the first showing This Sunday he will feature slides of Bethlehem. Nazareth and Calvary.

TO MARRY IN MAY — Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Reed, 301 north Hartman street, Nappanee, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Rita Kay. to Blaine Elmo Shock, also of Nappanee. Blaine is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shock of North Webster. The bride-elect will graduate from the North Wood high school in Nappanee in May. I Mr. Shock is a graduate of the North Webster high school and the 'Nashville Auto Diesel college at Nashville, Tenn., and is employed at McCormick Motors in Nappanee. The wedding will take place in May in the Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Syracuse Library Notes By Rosalyn Jones The Syracuse public library is happy to announce a community coffee break hour starting this week. Every Monday through Friday we will have hot coffee during the afternoon until 3:15 or until the coffee pot runs dry. You might also enjoy some of the new books and periodicals we have gotten recently. For the businessman we are taking the monthly magazine “Fortune.” Then for the antique collectors we have “Tri-State Trader,” a weekly antique, auction, and recreation newspaper. Some of the new adult books are Asimov’s “Solar System,” a series of entertaining essays on space and science; U. S. New's’ “Inflation Simplified,” a concise book explaining inflation and what it means to you: and the “Buyer's Guide to the 1970 Automobiles.” We have most of the new best sellers, including Mead's “Culture and Commitment,” a study of the generation gap; Robbins’ “Inheritors,” a novel of the wheeling and dealing in the entertainment industry; and Renault’s “Fire From Heaven,” a novel of the boyhood of Alexander the Great. Even though Alice is lucky to find this subject easy, she works hard each week to have a perfect paper. As a result, she received a grade of 100 on each paper for the past six weeks. Spelling is not given a separate letter grade on the report card, but .Alice did receive a plus mark for her achievement in spelling in the 7C language arts class. Milford photo club photo. SPRING OIL PAINTING CLASSES TO BEGIN Spring classes in oil painting will begin Thursday, March 19, in Syracuse, meeting at the CalvaryUnited Methodist church. Instructors are Margi Stevens, beginning; and Martin Stevens, advanced. Ten lessons comprise a series, during which time three or more paintings will-be completed and fundamentals taught. New registrants are welcome and people who have always had the "urge” to paint, but have never tried it, are particularly invited to join the group. Age limits are 14 to 94. “No special “talent” is needed to become a leisure painter,” says Mrs. Stevens, “just lots ofenthusiasm and a willingness to learn." □asses are held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. , and new students may obtain supplies at class if theyhave none to bring. Bp Receives Silver Pilot Wings LAREDO, TEXAS - Second Lt. Bruce H. Sheetz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge M. Sheetz, r 4 Warsaw, has been awarded U, S. air force silver pilot wings upon graduation at Laredo AFB, Texas. Lieutenant Sheetz is being assigned to Travis AFB. Calif., for flying duty with the 86th military airlift squadron, a unit of the military airlift command which provides global airlift for U. S. military forces. He was commissioned in 1969 upon graduation from officer training school at Lackland AFB, Texas. -• A 1964 graduate of Warsaw community high school, the Phi Kappa Psi member received his B. S. degree in business in 1968 from Indiana university. Lieutenant Sheetz's wife, Joanna. is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip R. Correll of Carmel. Pvt. Roger Pollock Transferred Mrs. Edward Peterson of r 2 Syracuse received a letter from her son. Private Roger L. Pollock, that he has been transferred to Indianapolis for further treatment of injuries he received in Viet Nam. Private Pollock was first sent to a hospital in Japan, where he thought he would be until April. Later he was transferred to Great Lakes Naval Base hospital. His transfer orders to Indianapolis came through this past week. It is expected he will be in the hospital in Indianapolis from six to eight weeks. His address there is Private Roger L Pollock. V. A. Hospital, Indianapolis, 46202. His mother received the letter Saturday. March 7. Tom Levernier Going To Germany Pvt. Tom D. Levernier arrived home this week from Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was stationed with the army for a 21-day leave with his wife, the former Nancy Barth, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Levernier at Milford. Following his lea\-e he will go to Fort Dix, N. J., and then to Germany for 18 months. Pvt. Levernier is a Hawk missile crewman. Stephen Fishbaugh Receives Promotion A. A. Stephen Fishbaugh, U.S. Navy, has been • promoted to airman following graduation at the NATTC NAS school in Jacksonville, Fla., last Thursday and is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Fishbaugh of r 1 North Webster, and brother Roti and sister Linda. Following his leave, he will report to the attachment helicopter squadron. Ream Field, at. Imperial Beach. Calif., for further training before his sea duty at Atsugi, Japan. Jehovah’s Witnesses To Commemorate Death Os Christ — Jehovah’s' Witnesses in the Syracuse area will begin a full week of Christian activity on Sunday. March 22. According to Brand W’illiams, presiding minister of the Syracuse congregation, on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. Jehovah’s Witnesses in the area will gather at the lofcal Kingdom Hall, Papakeechie Lake Drive, to commemorate the death of Christ. Tliey will be among more than 2,700,000 persons who will assemble after 6 p.m. on this date in nearly 26,000 congregations the world over to celebrate the Lord's evening meal. This date corresponds with the Jewish calendar of Nisan 14 when Jesus was put to death. Mr. Williams, an ordained minister for 35 years, will preside over the Memorial » service. On Sunday, March 29, a special Bible sermon entitled “The Road Back to Peace in Paradise” will be given at Kingdom Hall at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Williams said that the contents of this talk will be printed in the April 15 issue of The Watchtower Bible journal and distributed throughout the world by means of 6,000,000 copies in 72 languages.
