Meet To Discuss Pollution Os Tippecanoe River
Pollution of the Tippecanoe River is the concern of a group of citizens representing the six counties including Kosciusko, Marshall, Fulton, Stark, Pulaski and White. The group met at Winemac on Feb. 24, to discuss mutual problems and opportunities for resource development in the Tippecanoe Valley. Fred Kuhn, Gary Lyon, Carl Diehl, and Joseph Wilson attended from the Kosciusko Soil and Water Conservation District. Siltation of Shafer Lake is an acute problem as pointed out by the people from that area. Pollution by industrial wastes and feedlot operations threatens the usefulness and beauty of Tippecanoe for its entire length. In addition to reducing pollution in the lakes and streams, members of the committee from the various counties voiced • the need to provide recreational opportunities along the lakes and river and to develop wildlife habitat which is fast disappearing in this area. This group will hold its third meeting at Warsaw during the latter part of April to further explore ways of organizing and working together to protect and develop resources for the common good of all the people.
