Wawasee Students Win 78 Medals
The Wawasee band students earned a total of 78 medals at the district instrumental contest at Rochester on February 7. Seventeen events were judged superior or first, and 13 events were rated second or good. There were- no ratings lower than second for Wawasee students. Nineteen students in five events will represent the Wawasee band in |he state contest at Indianapolis on February 21. Results follow: First Division Solos — Charles Baldwin, trombone; Emily Bell, cornet; Connie Christner, alto sax; Dan Doll, baritone horn: Cathy Gaskill, clarinet; Debbie Jessop, flute; Rhonda Lawson, clarinet; and John Corbin, bass horn. Jeff Farrell To Be Featured At Wawasee Band Concert
Jeff Farrell, a newcomer to Wawasee high school, will play a trumpet solo, “Sounds From the Hudson,” by Herbert Clark as a featured number at the band concert on February 19. The concert band will accompany Jeff on this Herbert Clark classic. Wawasee high school's concert and cadet bands will present an evening of concert band music in the high school auditorium at 7:39 p.m. The program given by 127 students is listed as follows: Cadet Band Gold and Silver March ...... Connie will play the selection, "Pepperino” by Anderson and wil be accompanied by the band. The concert and cadet bands will combine as one organization for the final selections on the musical event.

Gray, USMC (Ret.), has been employed to head up the development department. Colonel Gray, a summer resident of the Lake Wawasee area since 1925 and a permanent resident since 1965, is familiar with the area and with the past development of Wawasee Prep. He spent 26 years in the marine corps attaining the rank of colonel in marine aviation. Upon retirement from the corps, he was employed for a period of four years as the development director of Howe Military school. He says that be decided that the daily drive of almost 100 miles was getting more difficult each day and that he wanted to work closer to home. He is also interested in becoming more involved in local functions than he has in the past. He is on the town plan commission, currently serving as its president. Colonel Gray, his wife, Joan, and children live on the South Shore of Lake Wawasee and are very happy with this new appointment. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Reppert of Camden were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cain and Sandra of Milford.
Adult Fanners Class To Hear Mr. Ganshorn The next meeting of the Wawasee adult farmers class will be held next Tuesday night, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the vocational agriculture facility at Wawasee. Guest speaker for the session will be Worth Ganshorn, a Warsaw implement dealer. Mr. Ganshorn will speak on the topic of buying and-or repairing farm tractors and machinery and the economic aspects concerned. Also materials from Purdue will be available on the subject for those who desire them. Farmers should take note that this meeting will take place oh Tuesday night instead of Monday. Also, it should be known that no sign-up or registration fee is necessary for fanners who desire to attend these meetings and it is not necessary that all meetings be attended. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Don Fox of Milford were callers of Mr. and Mrs. Verl George of Nappanee Sunday afternoon. Mrs. George had a stroke, but is now improving.
