G & W Food Products have developed appetite for pizza

Pizza lovers in every state east of the Mississippi River and in every state bordering the Mississippi on the west can walk up to the counter in their favorite grocery store and buy a pizza made right here in the Lakeland area G-W Food Products, located on road 13 south of Syracuse, has fast become a leading pizza producer in the United States. Five huge Diesel tractors, pulling refrigerated trailers, supply 28 distribution warehouses with tasty G-W pizzas on an around-the-clock basis. The total output of the Lakeland plant — some 25,000 pizzas in an eight-hour day — is handled through brokers. Federally Inspected The plant here employs 115 men and women and opprates 24 hours a day, six days each week. The plant and its product are federally inspected and meet the highest health standards. The plant has about 9,000 square feet of space G-W Food Products began production at Mendon, Mich., in 1954, and opened production in the Syracuse area in 1959 in a building they lease from Charles and Helen Langley. The Langleys operated a retail-wholesale aluminum awning and siding and window and mirror business in the building they leased G-W Foods i In the year 1960 G-W Food Products expanded their facility here, adding a bakery, and in 1965 a storage facility was added at the rear of the main building.

On March 15, 1953. announcement was made of the merger of G-W Food Products with Beatrice Foods. Inc., and GW Foods has operated as a subsidiary of Beatrice Foods Co., since that time. Beatrice Foods is a leading processor of dairy and a variety of convenience foods. G-W Foods will begin production the week of January 19. in its new Archbold, 0., plant which has a floor space of 84,000 square feet. This production will not immediately alter production at the Syracuse plant, according to Robert Spearman, plant manager of the Syracuse facility. Besides Mr. principals at the Syracuse plant include Robert H. Gar mire, president; Robert Stoner, national sales manager; John Lantz, office manager; Les McGriff, pizza foreman; and Giles Patterson, bakery foreman.
