It’s Bremen Over Wawasee In NLC Battle Saturday
[jjlt was the Bremen Lions over the Wawasee Warriors 73-69 Saturday night in a hot Northern Lakes Conference Battle that endin a doable overtime on the Lions home court. The Warriors played without Senior Steve Zurcher, who was flidelined because of illness. Gary Yoder led all scorers as he hit for 32 points for the Lions. Bremen hit 27 of 39 for a 62.2 per cent record. The first half of the game was Wawasee’s as the Warriors led 1817 at the first stop, then gained a 43-29 lead before going into the dressing room at half-time. They retained their lead 56-46 at the end of the third stanza. Bremen, however, knotted the score at 62 all by the end of regulation play. Milford Wins Two Recently Milford's eighth grade basketball squad pushed its record to eight wins against one loss as they prepare to avenge their lone defeat this Saturday at 9 as they play North Webster in the four-way tourney at North Webster. Milford smashed Nappanee last week by the score of 49 to 22. Larry Kaiser led Milford as he scored 18 points. Ben Waldbeser led the Trojans on defense and rebounding. Milford next turned on Bremen as they downed the Lions by the score of 49 to 26 Dave Hamilton led his Milford team with 15 points. Waldbeser again led the Trojans with 13 rebounds and playing a fine defensive game. Following the tourney on Saturday Milford will travel to Ligonier on January 20 at 6 p.m to face a tall West Noble five. ’ lu ■ Pierceton Postmaster Seriously 111 Pierceton postmaster Edward L. Pequignot, well known throughout Kosciusko county, is listed as seriously ill at the Whitley County Memorial hospital at Columbia City. He entered the hospital Friday evening when his condition became serious. Clark, all of North Webster, is serving with the second battalion, first marine regiment, first marine division in Viet Nam. When not engaged in major operations, Marines of the battalion participate in company and platoon size sweeps through the battalion’s area of responsibility in search erf enemy infiltrators They also conduct civic action programs designed to aid the South Vietnamese people. , S/Sgt Butter Receives Thumb Injury In Japan Word has been received at Syracuse of an accident in Japan in which S-Sgt. Robert E. Buster Jr., received an injury in which he almost lost his right thumb. Sgt. Buster was breaking in a new model plane engine and some how got his thumb in the prop. It cut through the bone and almost cut the thumb off. After treatment and X-rays at the dispensary he was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where a bone specialist sewed the thumb back on. The accident happened an December 28 and he isgetting along fine and has some of the stitches out. Since Sgt. Buster is left handed, it has not kept him from working and he has been on hanger detail at Yokota AFB, where he is stationed. MRS. RAMSER HOSTS TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB The Town and Country Homemakers club held their first meeting of 1970 in the home of Mrs Forrest Ramser. Health and safety remarks included the discussion of a humidifier. The garden notes concerned how nature uses cold weather for culling out the weak plants. Mrs. Robert Spearman demonstrated how to do decoupage by taking all her equipment and doing a complete picture. She also displayed several of her previously finished products. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Treesh and family of Milford spent the holidays in Florida. On the return trip they were held over in Jasper. Fla., to have a new motor put in their truck.

The president, Mrs. T: A. Miller, opened the business meeting by leading the pledges to the American and Christian flags. The 23d Psalm was read and a prayer given by Mrs. Miller in memory’ of the late Mrs. Hurd who was an associate member. A musical program was presented by the Wawasee girls’ sextet. The next meeting will be January 26 in the home of Mrs. Otto Wiggs. Syracuse Man In Bremen Crash Kenneth J. Breeden, r 3 Syracuse, escaped injury at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when his car went out of control on a curve on U.S. 6. three miles east of Bremen. He told officers that he fell asleep while driving and failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the road and went into a ditch. Damage was estimated at 8400 to the undercarriage of the car and windshield. Breeden was cited for not having a valid operator’s license, * and failure to carry the car registration in the vehicle. Deputy sheriff Joe Eckstein of the' marshall county sheriffs office investigated.

Wawasee Prep Wias Its Own Four-Way Tournament Saturday
Wawasee Prep won its own four-way tournament Saturday night at the Syracuse junior high gym with a thrilling 57-55 upset victory over White’s. In the consolation game, Huntington Catholic routed Donaldson Divine Hart, 88-40. White’s was the favorite in the championship game due to an earlier 90-64 victory over Wawasee Prep. However, Wawasee Prep jumped (Kit to a 14-10 first quarter lead. White’s came back in the second quarter to outscore the Lakers 22 to 9, taking a 32-23 lead to the dressing
Junior Varsity Records Bth Win Saturday Wawasee’s junior varsity keeps rolling along as they continued their winning ways last Saturday with a victory over Bremen Coach Mike Kurtz's youngsters scored 67 points to 54 for the young Lions as they winged their way to their eighth straight victory of the season. Jack Beer was the only Wawasee player to hit double figures as he hit for seven field goals and four free throws to score 18 points for the evening. Bremen’s John Yeager hit for 12. Freshman Tourney Set For January 31 Wawasee high school’s freshman basketball team will participate in a four-way tourney at Plymouth on January 31. Games will be played at 9 and 10:15 a m. with the consolation game at 1:30 p.m. and the championship game at 2:45 p.m. Wawasee will meet Bremen in the first game of the morning with Plymouth facing Rochester in the second game. Stacy Jr., is guest speaker. He has been in the submarine service for 16 years, spending over five years in nuclear powered submarines. Mr. Davis has also been a member of die crew of the USS Skate at the historical rendezvous of the USS Skate and USS Seadragon at the north pole on August 2,1962, under the ice. Admission is free, however, donations will be accepted to send members of the band to band summer camp at Ball State university. SYRACUSE—NORTH WEBSTER Hospital Notes Mrs. Emma Peace, Syracuse, is a patient in' the Murphy Medical Center. Ernie Craven, r 3 Syracuse, was admitted to the Murphy Medical Center last Wednesday. He was released Friday. Mrs. Pearl Amick, who resided with her grandson John VanLue of Syracuse Lake, was transferred from the Goshen hospital to Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, last Wednesday. Otis Clyde Butt, Syracuse, was taken to the Goshen hospital by ambulance at 3 a.m. Thursday. John Baker, North Webster, was treated in the emergency room of the Murphy Medical Center Saturday and released. Mrs. Zella Sargent of Syracuse, who has been a patient in the Elkhart hospitfd for the past four months, has been moved to Miller’s Merry Manor at Warsaw. Mrs. Larry (Jane Buster) Scheuer, Syracuse, will enter the Goshen Hospital Thursday, where she will undergo surgery for removal of a vein from her leg on FYiday. Robert Ernest Jr., North Webster has been admitted to the Whitley county hospital. MILFORD—LEESBURG Hospital Notes Dennis Solomon of r 1 Leesburg was treated in the emergency room of Murphy Medical Center Thursday. Albert Blankenship of Leesburg was treated in the emergency room at Murphy Medical Center Friday. Bob Reed is still a patient in Goshen hospital. He was admitted January 5 and hopes to lie released some time this week. Mrs. Uretha Gansert of Milford was dismissed from Milrphy Medical Center over the weekend. Miss Carolyn Archer of Goshen was released Sunday afternoon from the Elkhart hospital. The Archers are summer residents of Waubee lake.
