14 YEARS AGO, DEC. 15,1955 Teddy Beer, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Beer under went surgery on his right elbow at So’clock Wednesday morning at the Northern Indiana Children’s hospital at South Bend. Teddy was hit by a Crystal Dairy truck at the intersection of roads 15 and Emeline street when he was in the second grade and has been troubled with his left arm since that time. Dr. Robert Parson, well known bone surgeon, performed the operation, assisted by Milford’s Dr. Floyd Rheinheimer. Jane Baumgartner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Baumgartner was returned from the Goshen General hospital Monday afternoon after undergoing a tonsillectomy in the morning.

Peggy Kammerer and Richard fclopenstein were wed in Leesburg Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Harry/ Phend returned Sunday from two weeks vacation at Biloxi, Miss. Mr. Eastel Walls caught a six pound, six ounce bass, measuring 23 inches in length, at a private lake south of Pierceton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoover have moved into the Kaiser property at the corner of Henry and Emeline streets, vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hamilton. The Hamiltons have moved into the Frank Yoder residence on east Fourth street. 24 YEARS AGO, DEC. 20,1945 The Bourbon, Ind., NewsMirror was sold last week to Phil Bennet, former Montana newspaperman, who took charge
of the business immediately. The fishing law has been amended to permit the use of a shelter while fishing on the ice this winter, Not a complete shelter, however. Issuance of permanent free hunting and fishing permits to war veterans is under way, the Indiana Department of Conservation announced. Sugar stamp No. 39 will be good January 1. Sugar stamp 38 will be worthless after Dec. 31. Elmer Rassi, son of John Rassi, purchased the Milford Electric shop from Carl B. Duncan. Mr. Duncan had purchased it from Noble Myers in 1931. Mr. Samuel Drake, 90, died at his home in Turkey Creek township, Wednesday, December 12, at 4 p.m., from a heart attack. Pfc. Myrtus Custer was discharged from the army last week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Custer. Russell M. Foreman, storekeeper first class, was recently discharged at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. 30 YEARS AGO, DEC. 21,1939 Clarence Arnold, former resident of Milford Junction, who is widely known in Milford and surrounding territory as the ominous “Peck’s Bad Boy,”
spent several days in Milford last week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sparklin. Mr. Sparklin is a cousin of Mr. Arnold. A manure spreader ran over and seriously sprained the ankle of Bill Kaiser last Thursday morning. Bill got his leg caught in the wheel of the machine and was pulled beneath it. He was taken to the McDonald hospital where an X-ray was taken . No bones were found to be broken. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer H. Groves of Adena, Colorado, formerly of Milford, win observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Christmas day. Esther and Ann Beer of Elkhart spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Beer. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sorg of New Paris are the parents of a son, Dennis Lynn, born Sunday night at the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dierk of Hastings are the parents of an 8 pound son, born Dec. 10, at the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Eddy Rose, Jr., and Sr. and families of Mishawaka spent last Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sparklin. 40 YEARS AGO, DEC. 19,1929 A 10 pound daughter was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Beer on
Saturday. 'i The farm residence of Calvin Cooper, located one and one half miles east of Bethany church was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. Horace Reber, 23, died early Friday morning at his home 7 miles southeast of Milford, after an illness of one week with pneumonia. Miss Nettie Zimmerman, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Zimmerman, who lived two miles south of Milford, died at 8:45 Friday night at the Elkhart hospital, where she had been a patient since Nov. 24. Miss Zimmerman underwent an appendicitis operation, after which influenza developed. Spinal meningitis later set in causing her death. Mrs. Simon Beer put a Quaker Felt Rug in her kitchen this week. They are getting more popular as the days go by. A daughter was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Graff on Tuesday. She weighed 9 pounds. Thelma Fox assisted Mrs. Walter Kasper with her housework last week. Mrs. Edwin Berkey who has been seriously ill remains about the same.
