Wawasee Prep Prepares For First Home Game
Wawasee Prep will play its first home game of the 1969-70 basketball season Saturday night, Dec. 6, against Bethany Christian. Game time is 8 p.m. The Lakers under coach Rex Yentes have compiled a 1-3 record to date. They opened the season on November 14 against Bryant, losing 85-51. The next night, the Lakers chalked up their lone victory by downing Donaldson Divine Heart, 82-65. On November 21, Wawasee Prep traveled to Larwill, where they suffered a 97-54 setback at the hands of rugged South Whitley. The following night, the Lakers journeyed to Middlebury and Jefferson township. The Lakers were defeated 84-50. Coach Yentes, in his second year at the school, has only one returning starter, senior Doug Ebner, from last year’s team, which compiled a 7-7 record. There were four other letter winners returning, but all of these saw very limited action in 1968-69. To date, coach Yentes has been starting two seniors, one junior, a sophomore and a freshman. They are: seniors, Doug Ebner, 6 feet 0 inches from Lima, Ohio, and Leo Ley, 6 feet 1 inch from Avilla; junior, Mike Elward, 6 feet 2 inches from Wabash; sophomore, Rick Mertz, 5 feet 11 inches from Defiance, Ohio; freshman Sylvester Allen, 6 feet 2 inches from Chicago, 111. The scoring in the first four games has been balanced. Ebner has 47 points, followed by Mertz with 43. Coach Yentes is optimistic that as the team gains experience, it will continue to improve its performance and provide much tougher competition for its opponents. Brademas Says Official Interest In New Warsaw Post Office Revived
WASHINGTON, D. C.,_ Congressman John Brademas (D.-Ind.) today said that official interest in construction plans for a new post office in Warsaw has revived. The South Bend Democrat made this announcement based on the result of recent correspondence he has had with the U. S. Post Office Department. On October 30, Brademas wrote to U. S. Postmaster General Winton M. Blount urging action on long-delayed construction plans for a proposed Warsaw Post Office building. The U. S. Post Office Department had on December 16, 1968, approved construction of the new facility, but has taken no further action since then. Said Brademas, “I have just received word from the Post Office Department that one of their officials will be visiting Warsaw shortly to select possible sites for the new building.” The Hoosier Democrat released the text of a letter he received from the Post Office Department, which read in part: “We recognize the critical need for a new postal. facility for Warsaw and regret the delay in the project. Our real estate officer is giving this project his
