REMEMBER... WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO Albert R. Hostetler, r 1 Syracuse, bagged a five-point buck deer on Saturday morning, the opening day of the deer hunting season. The deer was downed in Tri-County Game reserve near North Webster. All Saints’ Episcopal church, south of Syracuse, recently organized a “Women of the Church” group. Mrs. Clyde Johnston is at home after being released from the Goshen hospital where she recently underwent a major operation. Mrs. Tim Darr was elected president and Mrs. Robert Moser, secretary-treasurer, at the November meeting of the Twilighters Bunco club Wednesday night. John R. Walker, general manager of the First Charter Insurance Company here, has returned from a four-day insurance conference at Indianapolis. FIVE YEARS AGO According to a report this week by fire chief Bill Hess property fire loss in Turkey Creek township for a 46-day period was $297,100. The Syracuse council of church women enjoyed a fellowship dinner and workshop Wednesday in the Calvary EUB church. A total of 40 women were present. Claud C. Mason, well known Lake Wawasee realtor, died Friday in his home on r 1. Survivors are his wife, one daughter, one son, two sisters, five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Mrs. John Gall, r 1, entered the Goshen hospital Monday. Mrs. Elsie Bowsersox who suffered an attack while at the Harris funeral home Tuesday evening is much improved and was able to be out Monday. TEN YEARS AGO Mr. and Mrs. Court Slabaugh will leave next week for Dallas, Texas, to greet their new grandson, named for his grandfather. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. James Slabaugh. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brown, r 4, are the parents of a son born November 23 in the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Vern Brinkman entertained 16 members of the Senior Mothers club in her home Monday evening. Mrs. Lois Schleeter was co-hostess. Mrs. Lydia Deardorff was admitted to the Goshen hospital for medical treatment Wednesday and released Saturday.

TWENTY YEARS AGO Miss Velma L. Grissom, 51, was found dead in her home Friday. She lived alone and the only survivor is a brother. PFC Wendell Stettler is now stationed with the air corps in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nolan and family plan to spend Thanksgiving at Craigville in the home of Mrs. Nolan’s brother, Richard Warden. Lowell Ostrander was taken to Hines Veterans hospital, Hines, 81., for diagnosis and treatment. A son, Robert James 11, was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clevenger Sunday in the Goshen hospital. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO Mr. and Mrs. Milo Kitson and family left Monday for Roannoke, Va., where they will spend Thanksgiving. The senior class enjoyed a chicken dinner in the home of Ruth Blanchard Monday evening. Miss Hamman, Earl Auer and Paul Lantis were alsc guests. John Snobarger has gone to Carey, Ohio, where he has employment. Mrs. J. W. Cable and Cable Laine went to Chicago on Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving.
