Miss Mary Katherine Bushong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Avon Bushong of Syracuse, became the bride of David Ridings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ridings of Syracuse, Friday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m. in a candlelight service in Grace Lutheran church in Syracuse. Rev. Theodore Hertenstein officiated at the double ring ceremony in the presence of 125 guests. The altar was decorated with pink gladoli carnations with single candles on the altar. dies lined the windows. Miss Nancy Garber of Goshen sang, “O, Perfect Love” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Miss Emily Garber of Goshen, organist, played Largo, “Jesus, He Shall Feed His Flock; Trumpet Air; Bridal Chorus (Lohengrin); and Wedding March. Given in marriage by her father the bride appeared in a princess line gown of Peau de Soie and imported Chantilly lace. The high neckline was appliqued with lace and embroidered with tiny seed pearls. The long tapered sleeves were edged with lace. Her lace Camelot cap had a full length mantilla with lace trim. She carried a Colonial Bouquet of white carnations and pink roses, with Baby’s Breath scattered in a leaf fernery with white streamers Attendants Miss Mary Oberlin of New Haven was the maid of honor. Her gown was of pale pink shantung with elbow length cape sleeves and empire waist gathered at the back. Her headdress was a matching cabbage rose with pink tulle shoulder length veils. Her Colonial bouquet was the same as the bride’s, with green streamers. Mrs. Kenny Wagner, sister of the bridegroom, was the brides-
maid. Her gown was styled the same as the maid of honor’s and was pink in color. Her headdress and bouquet were also the same as the maid of honor. The best man was Jack Ridings Jr., of Wabash. Groomsman was Roger Niles of Syracuse and the ushers were Jack Zimmerman, Doug Bushong, brother of the bride, both of Syracuse, Brian Smith of North Webster and Paul Brewer of Dewart Lake. Mrs. Bushong chose an avocado shantung dress, A-line with matching accessories. Mrs. Ridings’ dress was a turquoise linen sheath with matching accessories. Their corsages were white carnations and pink roses. Reception Follows A reception was held in the church social parlor following the ceremony. Serving were Miss Karen Juday of Syracuse and Miss Susan Hoff of Richmond, assisted by Mrs. Maurice Koher. A three-tier cake topped with a bridal couple and decorated with pink roses and pink tulle centered the serving table. The couple left for two weeks at Florida. Mrs. Ridings attended Ball State university, majoring in home economics, and worked as a waitress at Foo and Faye’s during the summer. She will be a senior this fall, and is a member of Chi Omega and Phi Upsilon Omicron. Mr. Ridings graduated from Indiana university with a B. S. and teacher’s degree in biology and is at Indiana university. CHURCH OF GOD MISSION CIRCLE MEETS The Syracuse Church of God Mission Circle met August 27 in the home of Mrs. Martha Koble. Mrs. Jack Elam, president, was in charge of the meeting which opened with group singing of “0‘ God So Loved the World”. Mrs. Louis Firestone led in prayer and read an article on Dr. John W. Breneman. Sunday, Sept. 21, the members will each take a box to church to be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hibschman in the Phillipines. Following the business session with prayer. Refreshments were served by the hostess to seven members and one guest, Mrs. Edith Rassi of Millersburg. DAVIS FAMILY WINS HONORS AT FAIR Members of the Devoid Davis family of Milford won honors at the Hoosier gold medal Shorthorn calf club judging held recently at the state fair. They placed second with a junior yearling bull, calved between January 1 and March 31, ■ 1968. SYRACUSE LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dobbs and family of Indianapolis spent the week end at Syracuse visiting friends.

14 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 1, 1955 Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Miller of r 2 Milford are the parents /of twins, Wilbur L. and Wilma L., born Monday, Aug 29, at the Goshen hospital. Marion Beer has been at Bear Trap Ranch, Colorado Springs, Colo., attending an Inter-Varsity Christian Camp. He is with a group from Ball State Teachers college, Muncie. Mrs. Forrest Rusk of Elkhart called on Mr. and Mrs. Harry Good and Mr. and Mrs. George Felkner on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Rusk, a former Milford resident, will begin her fourth year as a head resident at a men’s dormitory at Carroll C. college, Waukesha, Wis., this year. Mrs. Joseph C. Beer, William Beer and Ronald, Betty and Sonia Beer of Cissna Park, 111., visited Mr. and Mrs. Jay Beer, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Joseph C. Beer is a former Milford resident. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Kinney and Beverly returned last week' end from a vacation trip to Niagara Falls, Toronto and other places of interest in Canada. Carolyn Biller was made a ‘ member of the Channel 52 club on the Skipper, Bob and Sally show, Thursday afternoon. She received a badge. Mrs. Jacob Hartter’s week end guests were her sister, Mrs. John Freidinger, and Mr. Freidinger of Linwood, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allenbach, and two children of Essex, Mich. 24 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 6, 1945 John and Linda Young celebrated their fourth birthday anniversary by giving a party at their home last Thursday afternoon for the following guests: Cynthia Werner of Goshen, Jonell Judkins, Carolyn Ellison, Adrianna VanderZand, Jan and Tommy Fuller, Bobby Wemple, Steven Baumgartner, Brad Beiswanger and Lewis Ritter. Davidsen family near Albion. Mr. and Mrs. Will Hartter of near Syracuse, Mrs. Katherine Stoller and Elmer Hartter visited relatives at Peoria, Morton, and Cissna Park, 111., over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Merritt of Portland, Oregon, were guests of Miss Martha Groves on Tuesday. Mrs. Merritt was formerly Bland Hower of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. James Bailey of Worthington were guests several days last week of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Treesh. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nemeth of South Bend and Bobbie Lutes of Nappanee were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Buhrt last week. Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Buhrt and family of Goshen. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 7, 1939 Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Barnes and son Jimmy attended the Goshen fair last Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Myers and two daughters, Doris and Marilyn, spent three days last week in Chicago during which time they also took a boat trip to Milwaukee, Wis. Some time was spent at the Brookfield Zoo, at the ball park and at other sights of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clauss and family of Cissna Park, 111., vacationed last week at Lake Wawasee. Mrs. Hatfield also plans to look for antiques for her Antique shop during her travels. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Campbell of Pekin, 111., are the parents of a little daughter, Lila Frances, weighing 6'2 pounds. She is the first child in the home and was born at the Pekin hospital August 30. Mrs. Campbell was the former Miss Helen Zimmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Zimmerman, former Milford residents. 40 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 5, 1929 William Kaiser had his hand injured while hauling gravel in Jefferson township last week. His hand was caught under the dump body of his truck and he was unable to release it. He called for help and Guy Pinkerton who had just started away in his truck heard his call and returned to release him. A deep impression of a bolt head was left in his hand. Mrs. Orville Om underwent a major operation at the Warsaw hospital Friday morning. Her condition is regarded as being satisfactory. Mr. and Mrs. George Graff will leave soon for Arizona where they will remain for an indefinite time. They are going there on account of the condition of Mrs. Graff’s health and expects to remain until her health is restored. Men in prospect of oil fields have visited this territory and may drill for oil in various locations. The company is seeking a lease from W. 0. Wehrly, with drilling privileges on his land located near Turkey creek. The company bears the expense and should oil be found, the land owner would get a certain per cent of the product.
Golden Rule Cleaners Has Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Bevis A. Hill, owners of the Golden Rule Cleaners in Wawasee Village, are celebrating their 13th anniversary with gigantic savings for their customers. An ad giving prices of cleaning is to be found elsewhere in this issue. The Hills have up-graded their cleaning process by adding a new “Little Giant” cleaning machine. They are presently in the midst of installing a laundryette (coin-laundry) so as to better serve their customers. EMERGENCY CALLED TO HAPNER HOME The Syracuse Emergency unit was called to the home of Joe Hapner in Wawasee Thursday at 5:40 p.m. whqn Mr. ! Hapner suffered an asthatpajlic attack and had difficulty breathing. The unit administered oxygen.
