Lakeland And DeKalb Win Friday's Football Jamboree
The Lakeland Lakers and the DeKalb Barons teamed up to defeat the Wawasee Warriors and the Carroll Chargers 21-6 Friday night in the first football Jamboree played at Wawasee. Wawasee was held scoreless as the Warriors met DeKalb in the second and fourth quarters. The Barons scored all 21 points for the visiters. Carroll, on the other hand, outplayed Lakeland in both the first and third stanzas and scored the only points for the home teams. Wawasee was plagued by injuries during the game and veterans Roger Korenstra and Tom Speicher both saw limited action. SPEICHER SIDELINED Junicr backfielder Tom Speicher was sidelined, probably for the rest of the season, Friday night when his left ankle was broken during the Jamboree. Speicher, a veteran from last year’s team, is president of Wawasee’s student body. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Speicher of r 2 Milford. While veterans Dave Cory and Denn May have returned as quarterbacks, sophomore Tim Blue proved, his worth during the game and gives coach Don Storey a third candidate for that position. Carroll scored a touchdown during the first quarter of play, however, it was nullified because of a penalty. Wawasee controlled the ball during the first half of the second quarter. The second half of the stanza was another story as the Barons from DeKalb worked their way down field to score. They also converted on the PAT as Jim Conrad ran the ball for two additional points. Half time score: 8-0. Carroll scored in the third stanza with only 1:12 left to play. They failed to convert the point after touchdown. Wawasee took over play in the final quarter with the visitors on the three yard line. It took only three plays to make it into the end zone and the PAT put the score at 15-6. The final score was made by DeKalb on a 28-yard touchdown pass with only 1:59 remaining in the game. MILFORD LOCAL Harry Good of Milford called on Mr. and Mrs. Enos Hollar of Milford on Sunday and Mervin Mishler of Milford called on Saturday.

:j: facts about ‘OUR TOWN’ Milford, Ind. ± By JERI SEELY This old picture shows Our Town’s Main street as it looked years ago. One person who looked at it thought the townspeople may have been gathering for the opening of the interurban which served the community in the early 1900’s. Another thinks the crowd may be gathering to watch one of the many races—horse, motorcycle, etc., that were held down the town’s Main street in by-gone days. At any rate it is evident those photographed were expecting something to arrive from the south and ropes were placed along the street near the Neff Brothers company to hold the people back. Does anyone know any other reason why the townspepole might be gathering? * * * The gang at C. S. Myers Ford is getting ready for the annual punt, pass and kick contest. Did you know 18 handsome trophies are to be given at the local level? Gold trophies go to first place finishers who also advance to the zone competition, silver trophies go to second place winners and bronze to third. Registrations continue through October 10 from Lakeland residents. Boys eight through 13 years of age may compete. ♦* ♦ » Work continues on the demolishment of the old D-X station at the Intersection of state road 15 and Emeline street in Milford. Pre-inventory record cards dated December 1959 were found in the building. Was this when the station closed? Mrs. Charles Schell of Our Town states the station was built by a Mr. Lichtenwalter who is said to have been a great-grandfather of Guy Lichtenwalter of Our Town. We would say the old station was a stately home of its day. Does anyone else remember

anything else about, the old home or station? * * ♦ Mrs. Schell also states the Me Intires lived in the home, pictured at the top of last week’s column, for a number of years.
