REMEMBER ... WHEN t IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO The Syracuse emergency unit was called to the Floyd Gingerich home Monday at 4:54 p.m. when Mrs. Gingerich became ill. Ernis Williams will be the speaker at the Syracuse-Wawa-see Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday in the Driftwood room of the Wawasee Golf club. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fisher will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary August 18 with an open house. Herman J. Bauman, 80, died August 10 in his home. Survivors are his wife, two sons, six grandchildren, two great - grandchildren and two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hinderer entertained Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hinderer and daughters of Houston, Tex., last week. They left for Houston on Sunday. FIVE YEARS AGO The proposed budget for the town of Syracuse will be increased 13 cents for SIOO valuation in 1965 if the budget passes without alteration. The crew that mans the summer playhouse at Enchanted Hills had a scare Monday when some chlorine gas escaped near the swimming pool. The leak was fixed in about an hour. The Syracuse - Wawasee Garden club will hold a flower show in the home of Mrs. W. E. Long from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Wallace Huffer was admitted to the Elkhart hospital Wednesday for surgery. R. B. Graff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Graff, is spending his 15-day leave from the U. S. army with his parents hefe. TEN YEARS AGO The meter take for July is $470.50 according to clerk-treas-urer Ernest Buchholz. This is an increase of almost SIOO over June’s reported $378. Charles E. Davis will teach physical science and mathematics in the local school for the coming year. W. E. Long gave a most interesting account of his recent trip through the Canadian rockies and to Alaska at Monday’s Rotary club meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Gustafson and children returned to Hollywood, Fla., following a 10-day vacation at Barbee Lake. Mike Bauer will return to his home at Michigan City Thursday after spending a week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Bauer. TWENTY YEARS AGO This week members of the Syracuse - Wawasee Rotary club launched their drive to raise funds with which to build and equip a Scout cabin. Dr. Fred Clark, Laucks Xanders and Tom Christman are in charge of the drive. Mrs. William G. Connolly is leaving Saturday for a 16-day tour through the eastern and New England states. A Chicago syndicate has taken over 3,600 acres of land south of Syracuse and will move in a rotary drill to begin operation this month to drill for oil. A. J. Thebodeaux has gone to Saint Johnsburg, Vt., to visit his sister, Mrs. Augie Ray. From there he will go to Bedford, Me., to visit another sister. According to a statement from the office of Dr. T. S. Two young men occupants of the boat were rescued. Mrs. Walter Craig of Barstrow, Calif., came on Tuesday to spend a few days here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Strieby. Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Davis had a number of their family and friends in the home on Sunday to enjoy a birthday dinner. The occasion was.. the b rthday anniversary of their daughter, Mrs. Irvin Wogoman. A Nappanee edchre club enjoyed dinner today in a Milford restaurant. They will play later. One of the members is Mrs. Harry Gillis, the former Ruth Lingofelter of Milford.
