Senior Citizens Enjoy Boat Ride The Turkey Creek Senior Citizens met Thursday at 6 p.m. at the fire station then went to North Webster where they enjoyed a boat ride on the "Dixie”. A sack lunch was taken and following the ride they returned to the fire station and a short business meeting was held. « Mrs. Georgia Buster, president, heard the reports and a motion was carried to add a chapter name to the name of the Senior Citizens, the name will be Charlotte Blue Chapter of the Turkey Creek Senior Citizens. The late Mrs. Blue was the secretary at the time she became ill, Mr. and Mrs. Blue sponsored the founding of the elub over three years ago. The club will meet at 6 p.m. August 28 and go to the Milford park for a carry in picnic. The next trip will be either to the Rush Memorial or Hubbard Hill museum. Mrs. Helen Overstreet is chairman on the committee on arrangements for the museum outing. There were 20 members and 11 guests on the boat ride. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kimes and friends from Warsaw; Stephen LeCount, Warsaw; Mrs. Ruth Steinke, North ‘ Webster, who later became a member; Mrs. Mary Brown, Lake Wawasee; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Treadway and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Benner of Syracuse. SYRACUSE LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Weaver have had as their guests at their Lake Wawasee cottage, their grandchildren, Brad, Jeff and Greg Weaver of Rochester, N. Y. The boys’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Weaver, are on a two-week business trip to West Germany, Belgium, England and France.

Globetrotter Free-Throw Contest Labor Day At Ligonier Hallie Bryant’s Free-Throw Shooting Contest will give autographed Globetrotter basketballs as prizes sot the best FreeThrow Shooters from boys born in the years 1955 and 1956. Also competing for a trophy will be an open classification contest for the girls and ladies. Eliminations will begin at 9 a.m. Labor Day morning at the gym in Ligonier. Competition is open to everyone within the age brackets (for boys) and the gals from everywhere. The finals will be at the 3:30 Merchants Show in the afternoon. The Hallie Bryant Globetrotter Show, one of the most entertaining shows of the season, is expected to draw quite a crowd. There will be two shows, one at 3:30 in the afternoon and one shortly after the parade at night. Both shows will be in the gym, rain or shine. r Sorority Holds Potluck At Wawasee Home Mrs. Richard Puschman entertained for the August meeting and potluck supper of the Alpha Omicron chapter, Delta Chi Sigma sorority, at her Lake Wawasee summer home. There were 15 members and chapter mother. Mrs. Mark Detwiler, in attendance. Miss Mimi Morrison and Mrs. Willard Troyer assisted the hostess. A brief business meeting was held with October plans being discussed. Mrs. John Huss received the door prize. Mrs. Carl Chattin will entertain for the September meeting at her Goshen home. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Price and family recently moved from Elkhart to Syracuse and are residing cn Front street. Mr. Price is an insurance agent.

Zion United Church of Christ, Millersburg, was the scene of the lovely 7:30 p.m. wedding Saturday, Aug. 16, uniting in marriage Miss Diane Emmert of r 2 Syracuse and Roger Symensma of 1910 Hobson Road, Fort Wayne. Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. John Emmert of r 2 Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Symensma of r 1 New Paris. Rev. W. H. Zinke, pastor of the church, performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of 100 guests. Mrs. Paul Whirledge, soloist, sang “Oh Promise Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer” before an altar bedecked with blue carnations and white daisies with yellow centers. Embroidered Lace Gown Given in marriage by her father, the bride appeared in a floor length gown of silk organza and embroidered lace featuring a bodice of lace fashioned with a scalloped square neckline and short cap sleeves. Embroidered motifs enhanced the entire skirt and
built-in watteau chapel train which swept from the back yoke. Her headpiece was of chapel length silk illusion. Her flowers consisted of a circle cascade of yellow roses and yellow centered white daisies. Miss Susan Peterson of Fort Wayne served as maid of honor in a gown of romance blue chiffon and Venice lace daisies. Lace encircled the neckline and short sleeves. A floating floor length panel accented the gown back. She wore a matching headpiece of elbow length Maline caught to a cluster of petals and daisies. Her flowers were white daisies. Miss Elaine Shover of Maple Park, 111., served as flower girl in a gown of pale yellow crepe with Venice lace daisies. Lace encircled the neckline and short sleeves and a floating floor length panel accented the back gown. She carried daisy petals in a wooden wicker basket. Best man was Lee Kurtz of New Paris. acuse and Ken Symensma of West Lafayette, brothers of the couple, ushered. Reception at Church A reception followed in the church parlor with a yellow and blue theme and candles with white daisies. Miss Jane Hibschman, Mrs. Paul Worthman, and Mrs. Donald Ackerson served, assisted by Mrs. Paul Rink, Mrs. William Rohrer, and Mrs. Ken Symensma. Miss Jjean Olsen had charge of the guest book and Miss Cindy Shover and Mrs. James Shover of the gift table. The couple plans to be at home at 1910 Hobson Road, Fort Wayne. A graduate of New Paris high school, the bride attended International Business college in Fort Wayne and is employed at Lincoln National Bank in the proof department. The bridegroom was also graduated from New Paris high school and served in the U. S. navy. He is presently a student in veterinary medicine at Purdue university. MRS. CHAPMAN ENTERTAINS GARDEN CLUB Mrs. Gale Chapman of Milford was hostess for the August meeting of the Syracuse-Wawa-see Garden club. She was assisted by Mrs. R. C. Tytler of Syracuse. Mrs. Chapman showed the members her own garden and explained how she decided on her planting. A different feature in her garden is a grapevine that uses the light lines of the house as a trellis. Mrs. Tyler, president, called the meeting to order with 10 members answering roll call. The evening was spent making plans for the annual district meeting to be held in Syracuse in October. An invitation was read from the Elkhart Council of Garden clubs for the local club to participate in their flower show on September 27 and 28. The next meeting will be September 2 in the home of Mrs. W 7 . E. Long. Mrs. Eeona Troyer of Syracuse attended a birthday dinner at a Bristol restaurant last Wednesday . for Mrs. George Lange, New Paris, and Spec. 5 Tom L. Brock of Millersburg.

CHICKEN BARBECUE AT HEX GRANGE A chicken barbecue was held Wednesday night at the regular Hex Grange meeting. Linda Bushong and Lowell Nicolai reported on the youth conference which they recently attended at Corydon. The program included a reading “Noboby Works But Me”; a piano solo by Beth Savage: a game, “What’s On Your Person?”; a ball game with questions on grange ritual, world geography, famous people, Bible. and hodge-podge; and a reading by the lecturer, “A Little More Effort”. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Funk of Crowfoot Grange near Lebanon, Ore., were guests and each gave an interesting talk on their home and their grange activities. There were 32 present including 13 officers. The next meeting will be in the charge of Sam Bushong Jr., communityservice chairman, with refreshments to be served by Mrs. Peter Savage and Mrs. Ruby Darr. Connie Stiffler Graduates From International Miss Connie M. Stiffler, Syracuse, was graduated from the private secretarial program of International Junior college on August 8. Miss Stiffler was graduated from Syracuse high school with the class of 1968. She is the daughter of Mrs. Eleanor M. Stiffler, Syracuse.
