Friendship. Mrs. Robert Busch of Dewart Lake was co-hcstess for the day. Stephen Bahn Accepted At Findlay College FINDLAY, Ohio — Stephen J. Bahn, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Chester Bahn, of 218 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, has been accepted for admission to Findlay college, Findlay, Ohio. Mr. Bahn graduated from Wawasae high school in June, 1969, where he was active in football, wrestling and track. He
won the most valuable track trophy in his junior year and the second high point trophy in track during his senior year. Also outstanding scholastically, he is a member of the National Honor Society and Letterman’s club. Orientation week at Findlay college begins September 16. Syracuse Library Notes By Mrs. Oscar Bjella A very successful reading program at the Syracuse public library came to an end on Sturday, Aug. 9. Around 200 children were on hand to receive their awards, ribbons and treats on Wednesday, Aug. 13. A total of 6,444 books were read during the 10 week program, with 307 ribbons and 278 reading certificates awarded to the 329 children enrolled.
LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cunningham Two Beaches Are Closed Two beaches in this county have been closed until further notice. They are Bixler lake at Kendallville and Sylvan lake at Rome City. Carman Miller, county sanitation officer, said that they were closed by order from the Indiana state board of health, due tobacterial count. a In the case of the Ke .Rllville lake, heavy rains, swampy areas and the accumulation of waste elements caused the problem. Tests are being made every three days until the waters clear. NEW CHURCH ORGANIZED A new church, the sNorthside Church of Christ, has been organized and met for the first time on There were 88 present at the service in the morning and 78 at the evening service. Services were held in the Perry Centralized school north of the city. The group is planning a church building in the near future. Rev. Marple Lawson, Sr., is pastor for the church and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10:30 a.m. There will also be an evening service at 7:30 p.m. on Sundays and a mid-week Bible study will be conducted at the homes of the members. GOOD SAMARITANS HOLD PICNIC Good Samaritans of the Centenary United Methodist church held their summer picnic in the social rooms of the church Monday evening. Mrs. James Matson, president, conducted the business meeting and devotions were in charge of Mrs. Clayton Preston. There were 20 members present. FRY, Tawnya Marie Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Houser have received word that they have a new granddaughter, named Tawnya Marie, born August 10. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Fry of San Diego, Calif., are the parents. A Ligonier girl, 17-year-old Miss Joyce Cripe, was chosen as the queen of the Noble county fair. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alph Cripe. S/Sgt. Lepird Home From Viet Nam Staff sergeant Jack Lepird recently returned to McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla., his second tour of duty in Viet Nam. He and his wife are awaiting government air transportation arrangements. Lepird spent three years at Tokyo, Japan, and was then assigned to the Strategic Air Command at Statesboro, Ga., for one year. He was then assigned to the Ist Mobile Communication Group headquarters at Clark Field. He has had TDL assignments to Thailand, Korea, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Thiwan, and Viet Nam The sergeant and his wife expect to spend 30 days’ leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Buryi Lepird, in Ligonier. He will then return to McDill air force base. PREPARING FOR HORSE SHOW All people with horses are invited to bring their animals at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, to the North Manchester Saddle Club where classes will be held on “How to show in halter” and “How to ride.” This is to help interested persons in preparing for the annual horse show to be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 at the North Manchester Saddle Club.

Robyn Watkins Wins At County Fair Robyn Watkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Watkins of Syracuse, won a junior showmanship trophy in 4-H dairy at the recant Kosciusko county fair. Robyn is a member of the Community Hands 4-H club. The dairy in Warsaw will take 10 junior and eight senior 4-H dairy members to the state fair.

BRADEMAS IN CANTERBURY FOR CHURCH CONFAB CANTERBURY, England - Congressman John Brademas (DInd.) arrived in this historic cathedral town today to participate in the 23d meeting of the central committee of the World Council of Churches. Brademas was elected to the 120-member Committee last year at the Fourth Assembly of the World Council of Churches ‘ in Uppsala, Sweden. He was a delegate to the Assembly from the United Methodist church iti the United States. The Committee sessions are being held at the new University of Kent here. The central committee is the principal governing body of the World Council of Churches between its assemblies, which are held every six or seven years. The World Council of Churches now has 234 member churches. Religious leaders from 57 countries, including the United States, are participating in the ecumenical talks here. Brademas is one of 25 Americans who are members of the central committee. BEER REUNION The 54th Beer reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, at MansfieMFOhio.
