Noble County’s Grand Parade Tomorrow
A major county-wide parade is planned for early Thursday evening, Aug. 14, at the 87th Noble County Fair. Ron Rice, Chairman of the Civil Defense program in Noble County, will initiate the parade by lining up everybody in the infield in front of the grandstand. Then the entire parade will pass in revue. The East Noble Band will lead. Next, the American Legion will post the colors. Various law enforcement officers will follow. The State Police, Sheriff's Department, and Kendallville City Police are expected to participate. Next, numerous dignitaries will come by in convertibles. Officers of the fair board, county commissioners, Mr. and Mrs. Noble County, the staff of the Noble county extension office, Homemakers Association, and the mayor of Kendallville will be included. Also present will be the Noble County 4-H Queen who will represent this county at the Indiana State Fair. These dignitaries will then be seated on the stage where they will remain for the rest of the evening. About 20 floats will appear next. Noble County 4-H Junior Leaders are handling the details of the floats. Judges from East, Central, and West Noble County will pick the winning floats. Winners will receive cash prizes of S3O, S2O, and $lO. Cash will be awarded because any clubs which might win can use money more effectively than trophies and ribbons, fair officials said. The parade will last about one and one-half hours. The Demolition Derby will follow the parade at 8 p.m. Mrs. John Schermerhorn, wife of the county commissioner, who along with Bob Summe, has been influential in the parade’s planning, considers the parade an excellent way to return thanks to the officials and to the members of 4-H who have benefited Noble county and the fair. Says Mrs. Schermerhorn, “It’s a good people to people program.”
