elected the new chairman succeeding Jack Arnott of Nappanee. Trudy Etherton, state auditor, was re-elected as vice-chair-man. Other officers elected were secretary, Shirley Augsburger of Milford, for a second term and Chuck Haase, South Bend as treasurer. Chuck is the newly appointed YR St. Joe County chairman. All of the new officers will be

attending the Indiana State Young Republican Convention to be held in Columbus, August 1, 2 and 3, at which time they •will elect a new slate of state officers. BIRTH HEARN, Edward Wilson A son, Edward Wilson, was born this morning (Wednesday) to Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hearn of Syracuse. He is the couple’s first child and tipped the scales at eight pounds, five ounces when he arrived at the Goshen hospital. Christian Science Lesson For Sunday “No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us. Hereby know’ we that we dwell in Him, and Be in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.” This verse from I John is part of this Sunday’s Christian Science lesson-sermon on “Spirit.” A related passage from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy states: “Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love.” ENTERTAINS GUEST FROM NORWAY Miss Nancy Hollar, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. S. Hollar of Anderson, is visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Noble W. Hollar at Syracuse. With her is her guest, Miss Berit Sougner of Oslo, Norway. Miss Sougner is en route to Seattle, Wash., where she will enter the University of Washington on a Fulbright scholarship this fall. HOME FROM FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Miller of Milford arrived home from Florida today (Wednesday) and will remain here for a month. They hope to dispose of their Milford property before returning to Fort Myers where they reside at 1027 Wilshire Drive.

Henzie Center To Be Dedicated Sunday, Aug. 2 The Creston junior high school concert band will present a dedication of the Dr. Charles A. Henzie center for performing arts on Sunday, Aug. 3, 4:30 p.m. at Smith-Walbridge Camp in Syracuse. The dedication program will include a concert by the Creston junior high school band under the direction of Raymond Laffin. Nilo Hovey, educational director of the Selmer company, will conduct the Lake-Land March which he composed and dedicated to the Smith-Walbridge Camp. The Center will be accepted in a brief by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Smith and Mrs. George Walbridge. LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cunningham S. S. Bechtold Killed In Truck Accident Sanders S. Bechtold, 22, 230 N. Martin street, was killed in an Ohio truck mishap on U. S. 6 near Bowling Green, Ohio, last Thursday. Bechtold, on vacation from his work at the Fort Wayne plant of International Harvester Company, had accompanied Harold H. Miller, 33, r 1 Ligonier, on his truck drive through the east. Miller failed to make a curve in the highway during a fog that morning and Bechtold, who was asleep in the cab, was instantly killed. Miller is hospitalized in a Bowling Green hospital. Becntoid served two years in the U. S. army in Germany, being discharged in 1968. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Bechtold, Ligonier; a brother, Richard, Butler; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Spurling, Oceanside, Calif. Services were held in a South Whitley funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday and burial was at South Whitley. Ligonier Soldier Killed In Viet Num

Pfc. Samuel E. Godbey, a resident of Ligonier for the past three years, was killed in Viet Nam Saturday. A sister, Mrs. Eugene Harns, 507 Water street, received word from the state police. Official word was also delivered to the soldier’s mother, Mrs. Nellie E. Godbey, at Clio,

Students may register at any one of the three buildings. RETURN FROM HAWAIIAN TRIP Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wellman returned July 21 from a one-week trip to Hawaii. Their son, Pfc. Jerry Wellman, stationed in An-hoa, Viet Nam, flew to Oahu to spend his R and R He expects to spend the next five months with the forces in Viet Nam. W. Va. Godbey entered service December 2, 1968, completed his basic training in Louisiana May 29 and had been in Viet Nam since June 19. Godbey would have been 22 on August 24. His body will be returned to Clio within the next two weeks.
