Milford Friends Honor Morton, 111. Bride-Elect Miss Janice Elaine Herman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Herman of Morton, 111., fiancee of Joseph Frank Beer of Milford, was honored at a bridal shower at the home of Mrs. Robert Lee Beer on” r 2 Milford last Friday evening. Her chosen colors of yellow and white were featured in the decorative appointments. A large heart was above the gift table with the words, “Each for each other; and both for the Lord”. Mr. Beer assisted in opening the miscellaneous gifts from the 35 guests present. „ Mrs. Herman and daughters, Barbara and Esther of Morton, were present. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Nelson Beer and Mrs. Ray Haab, served cake, fancy sandwiches, punch and coffee. A beautiful candelabra with yellow candles centered the table. Mrs. Arthur Haab was the recipient of a bouquet of artificial daisies. Miss Herman and Mr. Beer will be united in marriage on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 12 o’clock noon in the Morten, 111., Apostolic Christian church. Elder Russell Rapp will perform the service. A reception will follow at Towne House Motel in Morton. Miss Frances Plum of Columbus, Ohio, was a week end guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Plum, of Milford.

Turkey Creek Senior Citizens Hold Picnic The Turkey Creek Senior Citizens of Syracuse held their annual picnic in the Syracuse City park at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Following the meal the group went to the fire station for a business meeting. Mrs. Georgia Buster, president, presided and heard the reports. She announced that 17 members had attended the memorial for Mrs. Peter Blue. A discussion was held and a motion passed to keep members on the membership list for a year if dues not paid, then they will be put on a guest list. Cards were passed out and members listed where they would like to go for the outings. On August 14, the group will go for a boat ride on Webster lake. Mrs. Valeria Hughes and Harold Hopple are the committee to make reservations and other arrangements for the ride. Any one who cares to may take -a sack lunch. There were 15 members and four guests, Roy Hopple of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Ruth Steinke of North Webster; Mrs. Gloria Leveque and Mrs. Lester Benner of Syracuse present. 1969 Indiana State Fair dates — August 22 - September 1.
William G. Burgett Receives Promotion William G. Burgett, Milford, employee of the United Telephone Company for the past 23 years, has been promoted to district plant supervisor. He will assume his new position on August 1. Mr. Burgett resides -with his wife Dorothy in Milford. They are the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Paula) Wuthrich of Milford, and a son, William Craig, at home. SYRACUSE MAN HAS MONEY STOLEN Ervin Frauhiger, r 1 Syracuse, reported to the Goshen police department on Monday, July 21, that while his car was parked at Maple City Bowl lot, a total of $l5O was stolen from his unlocked car. The money in wrapped rolls of quarters, dimes and nickels was in a cigar box. V ■ ENTERTAIN TULSA, OKLA., GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Karl S. Schortemeier of r 4 Syracuse entertained their daughter, Mrs. William G. Barker, and family over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Barker and their son, Bill were returning from a New Hampshire vacation where they had visited with Mr. Barker’s parents. The William G. Barker family is a resident of Tulsa, Okla.

14 YEARS AGO. SEPT. 11. 1955 Gene Rarick and Darell Bowman were at New Windsor, Md., over the week end. They visited Philip Meek, who is employed at the Church of the Brethren Service, located there. JoEllen McClintic, age 6, of r 1 Milford has entered the 1955 Indiana State Fair Baton Twirling contest, Saturday, Sept. 3. The free contest will be staged in front of the Grandstand at 8 a.m. Jo Ellen has entered one contest in the past and won 6th place. Mr. and Mrs. Jacque Wemple are the parents of a six pound, nine ounce daughter, Jeri, born Monday, August 29, at the Elkhart General hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Lehman Wemple and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer West are the grandparents. Jeri has a sister, Jacqueline. Frederick (Fritz) Wolferman has accepted a position to teach drivers training in the schools of Noble county. This will include schools in Albion, Cromwell, Avilla, Rome City and Wolf Lake. Mr. Wolferman is a graduate of the Milford high school and Manchester college. 24 YEARS AGO, AUG. 30, 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gilbert and son Arthur Leßoy and Miss Grace Noss attended the Moyer family reunion at Elkhart Sunday. Miss Mabel Buhrt will continue to be office clerk for Milford high school. Jacob Pease has been retained as janitor. Mrs. George Auer has been very successful selling chances on the Victory bonds to be given by the Mothers of Marines at the county fair. nearly a month with a very painful case of poison ivy. Mrs. Albert Henry Bird is taking the place of Marian Jean Young at the electric shop, as Marian Jean will be high school. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Randall of Leesburg and Mrs. Katherine Stoller were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hartter Sunday. This was the Hartters’ wedding anniversary and Mr. Hartter’s birthday. Mrs. Clyde McDonald, Mrs. Winnie' Burns and Mrs. Edna Augsburger spent several days at Bear Lake, Michigan. 30 YEARS AGO, AUG. 31, 1939 Mr. and Mrs. John Augsburger returned home last week from a two week stay at Kale Island. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rokey of Congerville, 111, were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Theo Beer. Mrs. Frank Keehn was the victim of an attack by a dog as she entered the rear entrance of the Merrick grocery store last Sunday morning. Mrs. Harold Kinsey of South Bend, formerly Miss Lucille Lentz, and her children are spending the week with her mother, Mrs. Emily Lentz. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Myers of Wabash and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Helminger had a picnic dinner with Don Ulery on Sunday. He is spending the summer at Ideal Beach, Lake Wawasee. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McDonald spent Sunday in Goshen visiting their son Lee and his wife. The occasion was the celebration of Lee’s twenty - seventh birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hover and two children will return home
from Alpena, Mich., where they have been spending the summer. 40 YEARS AGO, AUG. 29, 1929 A detailed report of the landing cf the Graf Zeppelin at Los Angeles, at 7 o’clock Monday morning, was broadcast by the National Broadcasting Co. The roar of the giant motors was plainly heard by those listening in over the radios. Ralph Berkeypile was employed as a mechanic at the Ford garage during the absence of Guy Cory who was away on his vacation last week. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Allen and daughter Helen of Dayton, Ohio, spent Saturday night and Sunday with her uncle, E. W. Felkner and wife, Miss Helen having been at the Betnany Girls’ camp at Winona Lake for two months. Miss Grace Griffith of Milford and Wallace Green of Millersburg, were united in marriage Saturday evening, Aug. 17, by the Rev. R. L. Haley at the Evangelical parsonage at New Paris. Rev. Ralph Rarick and family are vacating the Robert Vail residence this vyeek and are moving into their'new home at North Manchester. Mr. and Mrs. Cloyse Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. George Felkner left Saturday for northern Michigan where they will spend the week fishing. Mrs. W. H. Burris is having her residence repainted.

Wawasee FFA Chapter Activities Listed Representatives of the Wawasee high school FFA Chapter went to the site of the new Indiana FFA Youth Leadership Center, near Trafalgar to attend the ground - breaking ceremonies for the center on July 16. There were about 500 Vo. Ag. students and teachers plus many dignitaries in attendance at the event. Featured speaker was Lt. Governor Foltz. Lt. Gov. Foltz speech was entitled: “Indiana: Tcday and Tomorrow.” Funds for the building of the ship center will come from any source which might be willing to donate to the cause. The cost will be fairly high — several million dollars, the product produced will be priceless — more able leaders for tomorrow. On July 17-20 representatives cf the Wawasee FFA Chapter attended the state FFA Leadership Camp held at Purdue’s Camp Limberlost on Oliver Lake. There were approximately, 160 boys in attendance at this camp session. The boys attended many classes having to do with leadership and despite the hot, humid, rainy weather, they had a lot of fun and made a lot of new friends.
MRS. RALPH MILLER ATTENDS BRIDAL SHOWER Mrs. Ralph Miller and daughter Lynette of r 2 Milford attended a bridal shower Sunday afternoon, July 20, in honor of Miss Cheryl Miller of Middlebury. The shower was held in the home of Mrs. Carlton Pence on Parkway street in South Bend. Mrs. Pence is the well known Lois Pence, hostess of Homemaker's Time seen on WSBT-TV. The guest of honor is a niece of both Mrs. Pence and Mrs. Miller. Guests were present from South Bend, Indianapolis, Valparaiso, Topeka, Millersburg, and Milford. ;— Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ryman, Tammy, Tracy and Terry, Milford, were guests Sunday, July 20, of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ryman of Nappanee at a camping site near Logansport.
