arqund ;cus|O w v J _ In case you don’t know it, the big rage right now is country music. Rock and Roll is “out” and country music is “in.” Newcomer Glen Campbell had a lot to do with making it the rage with his series of hits recently. To capitalize on this rage, CBS has come out with its new show on Sunday night, “Hee Haw,” styled somewhat on the Monday night Rowan and Martin “Laugh-In.” Country music has also come to Kosciusko county, and one place that is drawing big names is The Post at Pierceton. Owner Donnie Smith has gone directly to Nashville, Tenn., to personally get acquainted and sign up some of the top names in country music to appear at his popular place in Pierceton. “I’m paying through the nose ... I can’t make a dime . ”, . but I’m certainly bringing people to my place in Pierceton.” That’s the way Donnie assesses the new music craze.

He is announcing this week his latest billing—Billy Walker and his Country Carnival. Donnie has booked them for Wednesday, July 23, and is taking reservations like mad. It makes one think: Who said there’s nothing new under the sun? • • • Handsome Dave Nine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Nine of North Webster, received word last Thursday that he passed his state pharmacist exam. He will be associated with the Thornburg drug store in Syracuse. A couple of his young associates, not wanting the occasion to pass unnoticed, presented him with two six-packs of beer. ♦ ♦ * We knew Mr. and Mrs. look-a-like togs are in fashion in such exotic places as Honolulu, and for that matter in Miami Beach, but now they’ve come to the Frog. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Ray Yoder are sporting pink look-a-likes, to the glee of almost everyone. Noticing a sly smile from a table of four husky Liberty Coach workers, and sensing an untoward remark, Ray beat them to the punch with, “One crack out of you guys and I won’t serve you.” Gene Berghorn of North Web-
ster Lumber Co., has about the most pleasant job of anyone right now. He’s general chairman of the Mermaid Festival, now in progress, and he’s making a personal inspection of the beauties who are vieing for this year’s Queen of Lakes crown. « * * On Thursday the 13 Wawasee high school students will depart for Europe with the School Band and Chorus of America, and are they excited! ♦ • ♦ You can’t say the Kosciusko county Young Republicans aren’t on the ball. They had a colorful float entered in the Lake Wawasee Foltilla on Father’s Day. Besides sporting the American flag and a six-foot elephant, a large photo of President Nixon appeared from behind. Riding on the float were county Y. R. chairman and Mrs. Max Anglin, Y. R. vice chairman Shirley Augsburger, John B. Augsburger, Lakeland Y. R. and Mrs. Steve Hearn, Bette Schlotterback and son Kirby, and Nancy Nash and her fiance Mike. * * * Nancy Jo Koher, 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Koher, left Monday morning for Honolulu to meet her fiance, David Shields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shields of North Webster. Dave is on R & R from duty in Viet Nam. Nancy Jo just graduated from beauty school in Elkhart and will work at the Frances Beauty Shop when she returns from her 8-day trip. She had never been on a jet flight before, her mother said, so she had a lot to look forward to. * * * Don’t miss the open house and grand opening at the Bay Point Condominiums this week end. * ❖ ❖ Mrs. Dick (Jean) Miller—the Pearl street Dick Miller*—is walking about two feet above the grc nd, and is S2OO richer this v ek. Last Wednesday she received a letter from The Reader’s Digest with S2OO enclosed for an article to the “Life In These United States” section she had mailed in last November. The article concerns something that happened to her and Dick at Denver during a vacation trip last fall. So look for pages 64 and 65 of the July issue, Jean is telling her friends. * * * A real new service is being added to the community with the grand opening this week end of The Tool Shed and Wawasee Flower Shop in Wawasee Village. The rent-all business is a much needed community service, and along with it will be floral shop and high quality gift department. Operating the new business (es) are Don Baumghrdt and his two strapping sons, Phil and Larry.

DONALD CECIL The June meeting of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Milford United Methodist church was held at the home cf Mrs. Donald Cecil on June 12. Opening the meeting with devotions and prayer, the president, Mrs. Robert Brown, then introduced Mrs. Ralph Karstedt, wife of the new minister. Although this program was initiated by the Methodists, it is now supported by the American Baptists, the Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian, and Christian churches.
