■ ALICIA McELWEE Apprentice Extension Home Economist Working In County Miss Alicia McElwee of Veedersburg began duties on Monday as apprentice extension home economist in Kosciusko county, according to Don Frantz, county extension agent. She will serve here until September 1 when she will leave for a six-month assignment to Argentina as an International Farm Youth Exchange student. Miss McElwee is a 1969 graduate of the Purdue university school of home economics, majoring in education. She is a ten year 4-H club member and leader.! she is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. During her work here, Miss McElwee will assist with the programs of the 1500 member extension homemaker clubs and the girls 4-H program. She will also work with young homemaker groups and other educational organizations. BRENT AND BRIAN NEER, SYRACUSE, CELEBRATE JUNE BIRTHDAYS Brent Neer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ric McClure of Syracuse, was guest of honor at a dinner at his home June 9 celebrating his 12th birthday. Guests were Kevin Rhoades, Harland Hursey, Bruce and Brian Nee? and his parents. Kevin and Harland spent the night at the McClure home. Brian Neer, son of the Me Clures, was guest of honor at a party Saturday, June 14, celebrating his 10th birthday. Guests enjoying a “pool party” at the Wawasee high school were Bob Johnson, Kirk Hughes, Paul Schrump, David Firestone, Greg Miller, Brent and Brian Neer and Brian’s parents. Ice cream and birthday cake were served and many nice gifts were given to the guest of honor.

Graduation Parties Several members of the Wawasee high school graduating class were honored at parties, recep' tions and open houses in connection with their graduating from high school. Some of the graduation parties were printed in last week’s paper, -others follow: Kay Kaiser Kay Kaiser, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kaiser of r 1 Milford, was honored at a reception in her parents’ home following her graduation from Wawasee high school. Thirty-two relatives and friends were present to ccngratulate Kay on her accomplishment. Refreshments and decorations were green and gold in keeping with the class colors. Cake, ice cream, coffee, green punch, nuts and mints were served by Pam Kaiser, sister of the graduate, and Sharleen and Shelley Kaiser, her cousins. Guests were from Kendallville, Goshen and Milford, Nancy Kesler Mr. and Mrs. Donn Kesler of r 1 Milford honored their daughter Nancy at a reception in their home following commencement exercises at Wawasee high school on June 1. A family friend, Mrs. Roy Miller of Bunker Hill, made a decorated cake for Nancy and helped with the reception. Also assisting in the serving were Nancy’s sisters, Linda and Diane. Refreshments of cake, fancy sandwiches, nuts, mints and punch were served to 30 guests from Bunker Hill, Peru, South Bend, Warsaw, and Milford. Mary Ellen Coleman Mrs. Walter R. Coleman of r 4 a Syracuse entertained at a party on Saturday evening, May 31, in honor of her daughter, Mary Ellen. Open house was held with guests from Syracuse, Chicago, and Melrose Park, 111., attending. A buffet supper was served by Mrs. Coleman. Janna Marlene-Jeanil Marie Adair Mrs. Helene C. A decorated cake centered the refreshment table. Robert is working at the high school now, but plans to attend college this fall. SYRACUSE LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. James Scheuer and son, Darrel of Plymouth were Father’s Day guests of their son, Larry and Mrs. Scheuer at Syracuse. 3/C Donald S. Hiner On USS Saratoga USS SARATOGA—Electrician’s Mate third class Donald S. Hiner, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald N. Hiner of r 1 North Webster, is serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga which was visited on Armed Forces Day by President Richard M. Nixon. Accompanied by Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Thomas Moorer and other navy officials. President Nixon flew by helicopter to the Saratoga, 45 miles off the Virginia coast. The President observed a strike exercise conducted by 14 ships, including cruisers, destroyers and a nuclear submarine and navy aircraft of Air Wing Three. FRANKLIN GRENARD RECEIVES BRONZE STAR FOR HEROISM S/5 Franklin M. Grenard, son of Mrs. Daniel M. Miller of Syracuse, has received the Bronze Star and citation for heroism while serving with the US army intelligence in Viet Nam from 1967 to 1968.

Lewis In Award Winning Air Force Wing ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Technical Sergeant Charles F. son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Lewis of r 2 Warsaw, is a member of a unit that has earned the U. S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Sergeant Lewis, an administrative supervisor in the 21st Composite Wing ‘at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, will wear the distinctive service ribbon to mark his affiliation with the unit. His unit was cited for its outstanding record in areas of combat readiness, training and support of the Southeast Asia effort. This is the third consecutive award the wing has won since its formation in July 1966. The sergeant is a 1956 graduate of Leesburg (Ind.) high school. His wife, Betty, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Meyer, Great Falls, Mont.

Stump, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce D. McClintic of Milford, and husband of the former Miss Christine M. Woody of Fort Shafter, Honolulu, was graduated from naval submarine school at the US naval submarine base, New London, Conn. The two-month school instructs the student in the fundamentals of submarine operation and procedure, providing the 150-submarine fleet with 20,000 graduates annually. The submarine school, largest in the world, is located near diesel - electric, nuclear attack and nuclear fleet ballistic missile (Polaris) submarines.
