- / • ISj RECENT GRADUATE — Miss « Ellen Leitch, daughter of Mrs. Lillian Leitch of r 1 Syracuse, has completed her studies and recently was graduated as a medical receptionist from the Elkhart Institute of Technology in Elkhart. Tavern Owner And Bartender Wed Waitresses The owner and bartender of the Frog Tavern at Lake Wawasee were united in marriage with waitresses employed at the Frog in a double wedding ceremony performed at the Kosciusko county court house last Wednesday. Ray Dean Yoder, 53, owner of the Frog, was married to Lou Ann Flauding, 36, a daytime waitress. Bartender Daniel Phillip O’Haver, 33, wed Norma Jean Wagner, 34, a nighttime waitress. The two couples, who reside near Syracuse, Were married by Judge Allan A. Rasor in Kosciusko Superior Court. It was “the first wedding ceremony performed by Rasor during his term as judge. OVERNIGHT VISITORS AT WUTHRICH HOME Fcur young ladies, Anette Beaty, Marilyn Howe, Olga Sokolick and Sue Nash, of the Zion’s Bible Institute in East Providence, R. 1., spent Saturday night in the home of Mrs. Fred Wuthrich, near Milford. The girls presented a musical program at the Northwood Chape] near Nappanee earlier in the eve ning.

14 YEARS AGO, JUNE 16, 1955 Mrs. Theo Beer will attend the commencement exercises of the Sherwood School of Music in Orchestra Hall, Chicago, this evening. Her niece, Miss Ruth Speheger of Plymouth, is a graduate and is also on the program. Miss Speheger will sing the aria, “Charmant Oiseau,” from “Pearle Du Brazil,” by David. Workmen of the Reith - Rily Construction Co. of Goshen were in Milford late last week and completed the job of blacktopping the basketball court on the school ground. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hartter announce the engagement of their daughter, Clarann, to Philip Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Campbell. Both are graduates of the Milford high school. Miss Hartter is employed at Penn Controls, Goshen, and Mr. Campbell works with his father at Campbell’s market. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, of Skokie, 111., announce the engagement of their daughter, Nancy, to Virgil Wuthrich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wuthrich, Milford. Mr. and Mrs. John Plank are the parents of a nine pound daughter, Debra Kay, born Friday evening, June 10 at the McDonald hospital. 20 YEARS AGO, JUNE 16, 1949 Bill Emerick, partner in the Milford Metal Treating Company with George Hastings, suffered a heart attack Friday evening and is confined to his bed at North Liberty. He was overcome by work and the heat, his partner stated. Billy Little will leave New York city on July 1 for Frankfurt, Germany, where he will begin his work as traveling auditor for the army publication’s, Stars and Stripes. He expects to go by PanAmerican Airways. He received his degree from Indiana university last week. Rev. C. C. Cripe, pastor of Bethel Church of the Brethren, and Rev. Galen Bowman, pastor of Bethany Church of the. Brethren, and Mrs. Bowman, are attending the annual conference of
the church at Ocean Grove, N. J. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rassi and daughters, Lauann, Mary Helen, and Linda Carol, left Wednesday for a month's trip to California and other western states. At San Francisco they will visit Mrs. Rassi’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Yturriaga. They will also spend some time at Gridley, Kansas, Mrs. Rassi’s former home town. 40 YEARS AGO, JUNE 20, 1929 Mrs. Herbert Alexander and three children of South Bend are spending a few days with her brother, Harold Tom, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bronnengerg and Miss Mary Wallace of Anderson were Sunday dinner guests at the Ray Miller home. Mr. and Mrs. Noble Neff entertained Mr. and Mrs. Riley Jordon of Elkhart, as dinner guests on Friday. Mrs. Jordon was formerly Miss Clara Nicodemus of Milford. S. T. Nicodemus and family spent Sunday with relatives at Garrett. They went to Albion Saturday evening where they remained overnight with relatives. Miss Minnie Louise Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Cooper, and James Hamman were quietly married Saturday evening, June 8, at 6 o’clock at the home of Mr and Mrs. Frank Emery in South Bend, by Rev. Clyde Forney. Mr. and Mrs. Ike Kline of North Webster are the proud parents of a daughter born Thursday morning, June 13. Mr. and Mrs. Kline moved from Milford to North Webster a year ago. Dr. Stockberger reports the birth of a son, Don Eugene, to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ringler, of near Syracuse. The boy was born June 12 and weighed six and one-half pounds. SYRACUSE LOCAL Stewart Lecount, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger LeCount, Warsaw, spent a few days last week in the Emory Guy home at Syracuse.
HostetlerLambert Vows Held May 31 Mrs. Donna Hostetler of r 4 Syracuse and O A Lambert of Syracuse were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at 11 ajn. Saturday, May 31, in Saint Andrews United Methodist church at Syracuse. Rev. August Lundquist performed the ceremony in the presence of children of the couple. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Marion Cooper of 202 W. Wilden Ave., Goshen, and Mrs. Ethel Lambert, Milford, is the mother of the bridegroom. The bride chose a white knit dress with green shoes and purse. She carried one rose and a lace handkerchief. Followings a wedding trip to Florida, the couple is residing on r 4 Syracuse. The bridegroom is a sales manager at Divco-Wayne in Bourbon. A buffet luncheon was enjoyed at a Syracuse restaurant following the wedding, attended by parents and children of the bridal couple. A lovely two tiered wedding cake graced the center of the luncheon table. INITIATION HELD AT O. E. S. MEETING Initiation was held recently for four new candidates at the regular stated meeting of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 283, Syracuse. Miss Lindal Caldwell and Douglas Yoder presided in the east. Guests were from Lynn. Grand inspection is scheduled for August 6 with practice set for August 4, both to be held at the Goshen Masonic temple. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Patrick Bornman, Mrs. William Hess and Mrs. Larry Haviland. District Deputy Visits The Junei 11 meeting of the OES included an official visit of the district deputy, Mrs. Clem Lisor. Miss Caldwell and Mr. Yoder presided The refreshment committee consisted of Mrs. Vaughn Hinesley and Mrs. Carl Myrick. There will be a called meeting on June 26 for initiatory work.

Successful 4-Her’s Meet At Rassi Home June 10 The Successful 4-H’ers of Milford met Tuesday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the home of Clark Rassi. The American pledge was lead by Clark and the 4-H pledge by Terry Zimmerman. A report on swimming safety was given by Barb Zimmerman. Clark Rassi and Terry Zimmerman gave a demonstration on swimming and diving. Refreshments were furnished by Dave and Charlie Baumgartner. GIRL SCOUTS CAMP OUT Members of the Milford girl scout troop 225 enjoyed an overnight camp out on June 12 and 13. The girls spent their time at the Singing Hills camp grounds. During a camp fire ceremony Roxanne Sawyer received her collector's badge. Roxie is the first member of the troop to receive a badge. DINNER GUESTS OF WILLIAM CABLES For a Saturday evening reunion of 1940 Blough, Pa., workcampers, dinner guests of the William Cables, Syracuse, were Dr. and Mrs. William Willoughby, Nancy and Tom of Harrisonburg, Va., Rev. and Mrs. Edward Lander, Dayton, Ohio, and the Charles Webbs of Shipshewana. Week-end guests included the Willoughbys, the Alan Cable family, Northfield, 111., Miss Vicky Casino and Charles Cable of Chicago. Lowell Cable spent his Purdue university vacation with his parents. He is now enrolled in a Latin-American Agronomy class-tour in which he shall study at Columbia. Brazil, Argentina. Nicaragua, Mexico for six weeks. Miss Nancy Willoughby is a summer employee at Camp Mack while her parents take a teaching post at LaVerne, Calif. MILFORD LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kaiser, Sharleen, Shelley, and Doug, Milford, went to Cissna Park, 111., last Friday to spend the week end with Mrs. Kaiser’s mother, Mrs. Harry Baumgartner.
Jerry Rinker Is 'Athlete Os The Year' For the first time in the history of Southern California college, a freshman walked away with the top award. Athlete of the Year, and to no ones surprise it was Jerry Rinker from Syracuse. The six foot, two inch, 195 pound freshman was an allround athlete during his first year of college as he became the number four runner on the seven-man cross country team that set a new school record with 28 wins and 11 losses and placed second in the conference finals. For his courage and determination Rinke.' was also voted a trophy by his cross country mates as the most inspirational runner on the team. Rinker was of course his best on the basketball courts where he lead the team in scouring, rebounding, steals, assists and time played. Rinker was the first freshman ever to make the all-conference team, plus he made all-tourna-ment in two other tournaments during the season. He was also voted to the college’s all-time basketball team as a result of his one-season record breaking performance. He was voted the most valuable and most inspirational by his basketball mates and received trophies for both honors. He

Jeri y scored in the long jump, triple jump, high hurdles and ran as a member of the mile and 440 yard relay team. Jerry also alternated as the baseball team’s-; right fielder and contributed much to the team’s second place finish. Jerry is th? son of Mirs. Mae Rinker and his wife is Catrina Conn Rinker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bowen Conn, all of Syracuse. 4-H RABBIT CLUB MEETS JUNE 12 The Elkhart county 4-H Rabbit club met June 12, at 7:30 at the fairgrounds. The meeting was brought to order by president, Bob Miller. Faye Malcolm led the group in recreation. The pledges were led by Keith Wittmer and Faye Malcolm. The minutes were read and approved. The roll call was read followed by devotions given by Debra Miller. Dann Keiser led the group in singing. Bob and Debra Miller brought refreshments. The meeting then adjourned. The next meeting will be July 12, at TO a.m. at the fairgrounds. SYRACUSE’ LOCAL.
