AROUND .a&llp OSy • New owners of the Sleepy Owl, located on road 13 south of Syracuse, are John and Nancy Glon of Warsaw, and they are planning their grand opening on Friday, May 9. The Glons hail from Warsaw and are the parents of seven children. They have sold their home in Warsaw and plan to move into the lake area as soon as a suitable home for their large family can be found. They purchased the popular old landmark from Dick and ** Doris Jones and took over on March 1. John was a former United Telephone Co. employee at Warsaw, and Mrs. Glon displays a lively sense of humor. Our bet: They’ll do all right here. s * * At the same time we should ' note Stan and Polly Bonar have taken over the Wawasee Plaza Standard Service Station and Carry-Out for another season, their third. They will be open for business on Saturday, May 10. Stan is The man at the gas pump and in the lube room and Polly is able at the grill. Polly is the daughter of Mary Pusti, cook at the Pickwick for so long. $ ❖ $ There are other more notable changes going on at the Wawasee Plaza, with the sale of the marina arid motel imminent More on that later. Syracuse police officers were noted on the uptown streets last week, more so on Friday and Saturday, checking the parking meters and issuing parking tickets to delinquent parkers. Both men in full officer uniform going at their new job with gusto. We can’t say motorists haven’t been duly warned, however, and let’s hope this “new money” is used to repair streets where needed. There are persistent rumors that the State Bank of Syracuse will purchase the old building scuth on road 13 formerly occupied by Marley’s Steak House and convert it into a drive-in bank. What discussion has developed along this line so far is insufficient to warrant a “hard” news story. * * * Ginnie Putt, the wife of affable Frank Putt, appears to relish the

On Friday, Mrs. Putt was visited by Frank’s mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Edsel of Goshen. Ginnie, who admits to having been a Democrat at one time, has the appointment for her ability and for her backing of what she calls the good old GOP. She was fundraiser for Erwin-for-Congress during the recent campaign. $ « & A new addition at VyLactos office—and an attractive one at that —is Mrs. George (Beth) Bushong, wife of the uptown barber. She is working with- Mrs. Bill (Theda) Cutter and Mrs. Harold (Mary) Konzelman. ❖ V ❖ The date of June 14 has been selected as the time for the first Drum and Bugle Corps Pageant, to be held at the Wawasee high school stadium, 7:30 p.m. It will be called a Pageant of Music and will attract six units, including The Maple City Cadets of LaPorte, Ind., the Blossomland Cadets of St. Joseph, Mich., the Guardsmen of Mount Pleasant, 111., Y. M. C. A Kiltie Kadets of Racine, Wis., the Mauraders of Royal Oak, Mich., and the Colonels of Franklin Park, 111. For further details, contact Maurice Mason of Syracuse. Realtor Jack Nash has the prettiest eight month-old grandson! Former county commissioner Ray E. Ferverda, who resides south of the New Salem church, on Saturday found three balloons in a tree near his house. Attached to the deflated balloons was a card asking the finder to send information to Mike Petrovic, Racine, Wis. The note said the three small balloons had been sent aloft at Racine on May 3: as part of a scientific experiment. Well known township resident Jim Kirkwood received a parking ticket Monday morning and dolefully dropped a quarter in the yellow envelope as his “fine.” His face brightened up, however, when townsman Charlie Harris, seeing the humorous side of it, said this warrants a picture in the paper, a “local man” receiving the first parking ticket and not some but of town resident. Ambitious Lakeland realtor Joe Todd has two, new thank you jobs. He is head of the chamber of commerce fireworks eommitee and head of the Father’s Day Flotilla residential registration committee. First, his group tried to work cut a joint fireworks with Cromwell, but when this fell through they came up with a plan to hold fireworks on two points on Lake Wawasee. He and his committee ((Jack Nash and Joe Gray) want your opinion on the matter; . His Flotilla committee plans to set up registration chairmen around the lake in order to encourage more entries in the Flotilla. He wants to give a trophy for each lake area, such as Kale Island, Johnson Bay, etc. He also wants opinions on this.
