♦ National Jr. Honor Society Formed At Syracuse School

Syracuse junior high school has organized the Syracuse chapter of the National Junior Honor Society and inducted its charter members in a convocation program on Monday morning. The national junior honor society is a national organization dedicated to promoting high academic standards, wholesome character, constructive , leadership, loyal service and responsible citizenship among the junior high students throughout the United States. Students are selected to belong to this organization on the basis of their scholarship. character,, leadership, service and citizenship. It is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon junior high students. William E. 10 Participate in Regional Science Fair From Wawasee

Ten Wawasee highschool students entered science fair projects in the Northern Indiana Regional science fair held at the University of Notre Dame on Saturday, March 8. DAN BROWN PLEDGES DELTA UPSILON WEST LAFAYETTE — Daniel F. Brown of Milford is one of more than 1.000 men who have pledged social fraternities at Purdue university following a four-month rush period. A total of 1,012 pledges were liited by the 38 fraternities which participated in general rush, said Greg Poole, interfraternity council representative. Late pledgings may send the total over 1,100, he said. Pledges Delta Upsilon Those men registered for rush visit six fraternities in October and 15 in November. December and January were "quiet” periods with no planned rush activities. After February 2, rushees visited hcuses which invited them. Rush was sucessful this year, Poole said, because a large percentage of the number registered lor rush were pledged. Rush continues for those registrants who have not yet pledged.

Junior Merry Maidens Hold Fourth Meeting By Alice Gunden The Junior Merry Maidens 4-H club of Milford held its fourth meeting on March 12. Colleen Beer called the meeting to order. Pam Snider led the American pledge and Roxanne Auer led the 4-H pledge. Secretary Renee Anglin called the roll. There were 33 present. Judy Snider gave the treasurer’s report. For new business, Cynthia Rapp gave a demonstration on Bunny Salad. Hints were given on how to plan, prepare and do demonstrations. Beth Beer gave devotions on the’ Village Blacksmith. Susie Myers led in singing of two songs “Dreaming” and “Row, Row. Row Your Boat”. The business meeting was then adjourned and games were played. Refreshments were enjoyed by all. Findlay College Choir At Mt. Tabor The Findlay college a cappella choir from Findlay, Ohio, will appear in sacred concert at Mount Tabor Church cf God, south of Nappanee, Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. The appearance has been arranged by pastor Darrell Prichard, who is host pastor. Japanese Girls Visit Milford Language Arts Classes Friday

The Milford eighth graders were again informed and entertained by invited guests on Friday, March 14. Cheko and Hotsu, Japaneseborn girls, currently residing in the United States, gave a lecture and demonstration concernirg their native customs and mores. Some of the more interesting facts revealed to the students were: community baths, eating habits, oriental courtesies, flower arranging and governmental policies. Cheko, now living with the Henry Beers, and Hotsu, presently residing in Illinois with the sister of Mrs. Maurice Beer, were part of the language arts project —World-Wide Communications — under the auspices of Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Larry DeArmey and Gene Smith. According to the language arts teachers, the next concern for consideration by the Alliance of Nations General Assembly will be the possible solutions to be considered in reference to the Suez Canal Crisis. America. It is one of the major music organizations on the campus and its members are selected from the entire student body. It is directed by Dr. John R. Van Nice, professor of music, who founded the group in 1947. The program will include music of the early church in America, negro spirituals, selections by modern American composers as well as great composers of the past and will feature a folk Nunc Dimittis with guitar and string bass. The general public is cordially invited to attend.
