John Steven Bethel John Steven Bethel, two-and-cne-half-year-cld son of Mr. and Mrs. John IS. Bethel of r 2 Milford died unexpectedly at 11:30 p. m. Tuesday of an undetermined illness, shortly after being admitted to the South Bend Osteopathic hospital. The little boy was born June 1, 1966, to John S. and Gail (Finney) Bethel at Portageville, Mo. Survivors in addition to the parents include a grandmother, Mrs. Lilly Finney, and a great-grand-mother, Mrs. Mary Young, both of Portageville, Mo. Funeral services were conducted Friday at a Nappanee funeral home with Rev. Darrell Prichard, pastor of the Mt. Tabor Church of God, officiating. Interment was in the Stony Point cemetery. Ralph R. Haney Ralph R. Haney, 76, Winona Lake, brother of Oscar Haney of Milford, died in his home at 11:15 a. m. Wednesday, March 12. Born to Jacob and Margaret Ellen (Cox) Haney on April 21, 1892, near Nappanee, Mr. Haney was the former owner and operator of the Winona Dairy, and a member of the Winona Lake Presbyterian church. He married Mary VanDyde, who survives, on November 21, 1921. Surviving with the widow and above-mentioned brother are four sons, Robert Haney, Winona Lake, Paul J. Haney, Egbe, Northern

Nigeria, Dr. M. Bennett Haney. Almont, Mich., R. Joel Haney, Wilmington, Ohio: one daughter. Mrs. Jeffry (Margaret' Palmer, Rome, N. Y.; two other brothers, Melvin and Walter Haney, both of Nappanee; and 16 grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Winona Lake Presbyterian church with Rev. Arden Reed officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood cemetery. Mrs. Ruby Zimmerman Mrs. Harvey (Ruby* Zimmerman, 66, of 7CI Monroe street, Walkerton, formerly of Milford, died at 5 p. m. Monday, March 17. in the Holy Family hospital at LaPorte where she had been a patient for one day. Death was due to a stroke and heart condition. Mrs. Zimmerman was born near Milford May 16, 1902, the daughter of Charles and Mary E. (Misner' Fisher. She had resided the last 11 years with her daughter, Mrs. Fred (Opal) Bullinger at Walkerton. On September 29, 1921, she was united in marriage to Mr. Zimmerman and he died in in 1953. Mrs.- Zimmerman was/ a member of the Apostolic Christian church in Milford. Surviving in addition to the daughter at Walkerton is another daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Mabel* Riedel of Bremen; two sons, Elmer Zimmerman of Milford and Guy Zimmerman of Fort Wayne: 15 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren: one sister, Mrs.

MILFORD WSCS IN MEETING MARCH 13 The Women's Society of Christian Service of the Milford United Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Herbert Baumgartner on March 13. The president, Mrs. Robert Brown, opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Donald Ahrns presented the lesson, “Two in a Tussle” with the help of Mrs. Lawrence Myers and Mrs. Glenn Treesh. Masks were cleverly used to show the face a person presents to others and the “me” face which is her true feelings. During the business meeting the slate of new officers was presented for Mrs. Harlan Wuthrich who was unable to be there. They follow: President — Mrs. Robert Brown Vice president — Mrs. T. A. Barnes Area Chairmen: Christian Social concerns, Mrs. Doh Ahrns: spiritual growth, Mrs. James Longfellow; missionary education, Mrs. Lester Purcell; local church responsibilities, Mrs. Glen Treesh; and membership, Mrs. Harlan Wuthrich; circle, leaders: Mrs. James Stork, Mrs. Royce Fuller, Mrs. Vernon Stutzman, Mrs. James Brooks, Mrs. Ethel Lambert, Mrs. Russell Ruch and Mrs. Charles Schell. The installation will be held at the regular June meeting at the home of Mrs. Don Cecil. Coming projects were discussed and a bake sale with Mrs. Robert Brooks as chairman, will be held in April. Mrs. Glenn Treesh, chairman of “noodle day”, had noodles available for sale. Anyone who wants to buy homemade noodles may contact Mrs. Treesh. The meeting was opened by president Sandy Maggert with the pledge and Camp Fire girls law. Refreshments were served. Becky Hinderer presented a birthday present to Teresa Ummel. The girls decided to have a party March 27 to celebrate Camp Fire birthday week, it will also help to pass rank. Teresa Ummel, Susan Connolly and Becky Hinderer are on the games committee, Vaunda Todd, Robin Dust and Kim Bean are on the refreshment committee and Sandy Maggert is on the decorations committee. The girls also decided to each invite one friend who is not in Camp Fire to the party. TO CELEBRATE SOTH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Samuel O. Davis of Nappanee will observe their golden anniversary March 22. A family dinner will be served by their children, Glen Davis of Syracuse. I Syracuse Fire Chief Warns Trash Burners Syracuse fire chief Tom Strickler asks that special precautions be taken when burning trash because of sparks which ignite the dry grass. The firemen were busy over the week end attending trash and grass fires. On Sunday night they were called to the Wawasse Laundromat when one of the dryers caught fire, destroying a load of clothes. Monday runs were made to the Wawasee Airport, to the Syra-cuse-Webster road, Marine Land Gardens and to Wawasee Village, all fisjs resulted from burning of trash and flying sparks. Y-Teens Helping With Easter Seal Campaign The Wawasee high school YTeens, a service group for girls, have chosen tie Easter Seal Lily day campaign as one of their service projects for this year. The girls met recently at the Lakeland Youth Center with their sponsors, Mrs. Eleanor Warner and Mrs. Linda Hoy and the Easter Seel chairmen of the Lakeland area, Mrs. George Kistler, Mrs. Bob Fidler, and Mrs. Robert Brown. They made plans fcr a door-to door canvass in Syracuse, Norti Webster, and Milford on Lily Day, Saturday, March 29, for contributions to the Kosciusko County Society Crippled Children and Adults, Inc. They also made posters for their towns which advertise the Lily Day Teen Dance featuring “The VARS,” March 29 at the Warsaw junior high gym (old Armory I, from 7:30 to 10:45 p. m. The dance is open to the public. The girl who collects the most contributions in the county will represent her organization and school ask, a. candidate., for... Queen of the Lily Day Dance. Another highlight of the dance will be the “Bunny Box”. Several handicapped youngsters in the county have been invited to attend the dance as guests of honor and they will be seated in the “Bunny Bex” where they can enjey the festivities of the evening. Debbie Kauffman and Sandy Hoak served refreshments. Mary Hall gave the roll call for which the response was "Your Favorite Dog.” The members brought juices and soup for Mr. and Mrs. Felts.
