Overtime Thriller--

Goshen Defeats Warsaw To Capture Regional

With Warsaw having defeated Goshen in regular season play, the. final game for the championship* gave promise of being a good game and turned out to be' an overtime thriller, with Goshen getting the win, 58 to 54 in the overtime. The game started out with the Redskins cutplaying the Tigers and Warsaw getting into early foul trouble. Goshen had a sevenpoint lead at the first quarter. In the second quarter, ’■ the Tigers stormed back and knotted the score, 29-all, at the half. The third quarter found both teams scoring little but with Warsaw having a two-point edge. In the start of the final quarter the Tigers seemed to do everything right, leaped to an eight-point lead that, with the way they were playing, would seem to take them to the win. Goshen’s John Ritter, playing a great game all evening, spearheaded the Redskin attack and slowly the Tiger lead melted and with one minute to go the score was tied with Goshen in possession. The Redskins possessed the ball for the final minute, but were unable to score and the game was tied 50 to 50. In the overtime, John Ritter with a game total of 32 points, hit an eight-foot jump shot with the score 52 to 54, to put the Redskins ahead for keeps. John Knisely led the Tigers with 19 points, followed by Kim Essenberg, who set out part of the game due to getting into foul trouble early, with 16. Goshen had Hoogenboom with 18 following RitterV big 32 points. Tigers Have Easy Win Over Larwill Saturday

The Goshen Redskins captured its first regional basketball championship since 1930 by defeating the Warsaw Tigers in a real thriller, 58 to 54, in an overtime Saturday night at Elkhart. The Redskins defeated Mishawaka Marian, 77-70, in the afternoon. Warsaw 73, Larwill 60 In the first game of the afternoon, Larwill faced a tall, wellbalanced Warsaw team and after being down by 12 points at the first quarter stop, outscored the Tigers 24 to 17 points in the second quarter to hold Warsaw to a shaky five point half time lead. The third quarter was the Trojans’ downfall, as they werd,unable to get the range from the field and the Tiger’s height giving them a big edge. Larwill was outscored 21 to 7. In the fourth quarter, although Ward was lost by fouls, Larwill came on strong and outscored the Tigers 18 to 12. This was a great effort but

Wawasee Track Team Oat And Running

By Ben Fowler The Wawasee high school track teams coached by Jerry Minton were out and running Monday, March 3, as they started training for Wawasee’s first track season. . Minton said that the enthusiasm was high with a total of 55 boys coming out for places on the A and B squads. Among the 55 returning are lettermen from each of the three component schools which will be the nucleus around which the team will be built. When asked about the team’s chances, Coach Minton stated three main team goals that he and the team wish to attain. Wawasee Gets $1,218.98 From Sectional . Wawasee high school received a total of $1,218.98 from the receipts of the sectional tournament held two weeks age in Warsaw. Each school received S4B for means, $513.77 on the pro rata basis and Wawasee received $48.64 for mileage to the sectional. and $608.57 for the school’s enrollment basis share. They are wins in the Rochester Relays, the Northern Lake Conference Meet and a sectional championship. The team faces a tough schedule this year as they run against all the NLC teams and also Fort Wayne Elmhurst. Both the A and B teams will compete in these meets. Young Coach Minton stated that the team’s strong points would be the relays, but that he with certainty can “guarantee 13 school records.” The Warriors’ first meet will be April 15th when they run in dual competition with Middlebury. that school received $1,776.56. MILFORD—LEESBURG Hospital Hotes KENNETH RYMAN TO RETURN HOME TODAY Kenneth Ryman of Milford, who underwent heart surgery in the Cleveland Clinic, is expected to return home today (Wednesday) as reported by Mrs. Carl Shearer of Milford. Mr. Ryman underwent a double coronary implant on March 3 and due to complications was submitted to surgery again on March 4. Cristine Lynn, the 18-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Troup of r 2 Leesburg, entered Memorial hospital in South Bend on Sunday where she underwent hip surgery on Monday. Lee Ann R.
