Wawasee was defeated by the Zebras 62-50 in the second game cf the sectional tournament last Thursday at Warsaw.
Wawasee Eliminated By Rochester
. By BEN FOWLER Mail-Journal Sports Reporter The Wawasee Warriors were beaten Thursday evening in the first game of their first sectional tournament by a taller Rochester five in a 62-50 decision. Wawasee coach Zurcher had said before the game that, if his team came up with as good a game as they "had on past occasions, they would win" — and they probably would have. The Warriors, however. had one of their coldest nights from the field, hitting on only 17 of 57 lield goal attempts lor a lowly 30.8 per cent. They were still never out of the game, as they stuck c’'' e to Rochester the whole distance, coming within four of the Zebras in the opening seconds of the last quarter. Rochester grabbed a 16-10 first quarter edge and then expanded it to 32-44 by the halftime buzzer. Steve Zurcher kept the Warriors close in the first half, sparking the Wawasee offensive despite be-

ing heavily guarded. The third stanza saw the Warriors creep within six points of Rochester and then, after being down by only four points early in the fourth period, the Wawasee team turned ice cold and didn’t score for several minutes. The Zebras took avantage of this lapse and coasted to a 62-50 victory at the final buzzer. Lloyd, a fast little guard, and Shirley both netted 14 points to lead the winners. Ed Hart followed with 12 points and numerous rebounds. Junior Steve Zurcher ended a line season by picking up 17 points to lead all scorers. Bill Pipp and Dave Elliott added 13 and 10. respectively, to the losers’ cause. Rochester played Warsaw Saturday afternoon and was beaten 66-55 in semi-final action.
