Annual Secret Pal Supper Held By North Webster Auxiliary The annual.secret pal supper was held February 18 in the North Webster American Legion hall before the regular meeting of the auxiliary. The junior auxiliary members learned who their secret pals were for the past year. There were 27 juniors present and 21 auxiliary members. Gifts from secret pals were opened and games played by the junior members. Door prizes were awarded to Lisa Strombeck, Christine Rogers, and Glenda Rae Creemens, all junior members. Mrs. Paul Beezley received the door prize for adults. At the close of the social hour the business meeting was held. Girl Stater Chosen Pam Lewallen was chosen from the North Webster unit as Girl

Milford will send a girl also. —NW— Buy Ready-Mix Plant Located At Syracuse On February 17, 1969, Richard McCool and Gene Berghorn, new owners of North Webster Lumber, Inc., purchased the ready-mix plant in Syracuse from Hodges Ready-Mix of Warsaw. Work has begun to restore the concrete plant. Opening is planned for the Ist of April. The plant will be known as Syracuse Ready-Mix, a division of North Webster Lumber, Inc.

Steven Coverstone, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Coverstone of North Webster, won the school’s 1969 spelling contest last Wednesday morning by correctly spelling the word “extraordinary”. Steve was the fifth - sixth grade winner in last year’s contest.

A cap of matching lace held her elbow length bouffant veil of illusion. She carried an arrangement of white roses on a Bible. The maid of honor was Miss Toni Lunsford, North Palm B?ach, Fla. Her bridesmaid was Mrs. Nancy Huggins of Riviera Beach, Fla. They each wore a
straight long ysllow dress with matching long train. The bodice of the dress was of embroidered white daisies. They carried a single yellow rose. Serving as best man was the brother of the bridegroom, John S. Morton, of Lighthouse Point, Fla. Also attending. the bridegroom was Rodney Hillegas, of Boca Raton, Fla. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church annex, where the couple greeted 100 guests. Mrs. Morton is a graduate of North Webster high school and of Ravenscroft beauty college. She is now employed in Lake Park. Fla. Mrs. Morton is a member of the Delta Tau Delta Soreritv. Mr. Morton is a senior at Florida Atlantic university at Boca Raton. The couple is residing at 438 Lilac Street, West Palm Beach. -NWLenten Series At North Webster U. M. Church The North Webster United Methodist church is having special services during the Lenten season at 7 p.m. each Sunday. The special speaker for the services on March 9 will be Rev. Sheldon Duecker of the First United Methodist church in Warsaw. On March 16, Dr. Evan Bergwall, district superintendent, will be the speaker. John Meadows, tenor soloist, will sing a cantata, “Were You There” on March 23. The final service on March 30 will be a union service of all the North Webster churches held at the Church of God. The first in this series of Lenten programs was presented by the Wawasee high school choir under the direction of Varner Chance. On March 2nd, George' Hornish of Nappanee showed films of the hospital in Haiti. —NW— Backwater Friends Homemaker Club Meets The Backwater Friends Homemakers club met Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p. m. in the home of Mrs. Richard Snoke on r 1 North Webster. The meeting was called to order by giving the name of the favorite television program of each family in answer to roll call. Mrs. Kenneth Moser presented the lesson on “Important Papers”. We shculd know, what they are, are they up to date? Every woman, man, and child in the family should know the location of papers, contracts, documents, and policies pertaining to the life of the family. The wife and children should know who to turn to in case of an emergency. Mrs. Jack Guy gave the health and safety remarks on “What We Should Know Concerning Tubercu-

FRED COLE Golden Wedding Celebrated By The Fred Coles Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cole of near North Webster celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage by holding open house on Sunday afternoon, March 2. Mrs. Cole is the former Mildred Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Cole were united in marriage March 2, 1919, in North Webster by Rev. Cyrus Weimer. They have resided their entire lives in the North Webster area. Mr. and Mrs. Cole are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. George (Bessie) Himes and Mrs. Joe (Allene) Long. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey are from Findlay, Ohio. The World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday night at 7:30 at the Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Lura Black is a patient in the Goshen hospital. Rev. and Mrs. Dewis Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rash will spend Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in St. Joseph, Mich., attending the Central States Minister meeting. Alfred Kuhn and Mrs. Robert Murphy visited Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kyle of Goshen on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Kyle is an uncle of Mr. Kuhn and a former resident of Pierceton. Mr. Kyle was released last Friday from the Goshen hospital after spending several weeks undergoing tests and treatments. The Church of God Missionary meeting will be held on Thursday night at 7:30 at the church. An election of new officers will be held. Mrs. Lewis Streby and Mrs. Jennie Streby recently visited Mrs. Mabel Taylor at Atwood. Dr. Schneider To Speak At Bethel Church March 9 Dr. R. M. Schneider of Winona Lake, a chiroporactic physician who has been in practice for 14 years, will be the featured speaker at the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Milford on Sunday evening, March 9. His topic will be, “Why for Temperance?” Dr. Schneider has done much speaking to young conferences and adult conventions. He feels that temperance is much needed but sadly neglected in our society. The public is invited to this special program which begins at 7:30. *
O-KI-ZU Camp Fire Group Meets The O-Ki-Zu Camp Fire Girls met on February 12 in the scout cabin. All 15 members were present. A business meeting was held. Services Gerald Hepler Fires Expert At Fort Hood, Tex. FT. HOOD, TEX. — Army specialist four Gerald P. Hepler, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer W. Hepler, r 1 Milford, fired expert with the .45 sub-machine gun at Fort Hood, Tex., January 24. The expert rating is the highest mark a soldier can achieve on his weapons qualification test. Spec. Hepler is a mechanic in Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Armored Division. Craig Baker Serving In Western Pacific. USS SEMINOLE - Fireman Craig R. Baker, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald R. Baker of r 1 Leesburg, is serving aboard the amphibious cargo ship USS Seminole in the Western Pacific. The Seminole, a unit of the U. S. Seventh Fleet, is on its twelfth deployment to the Western Pacific, operating in support of U. S. and Allied efforts in Viet Nam. In addition to spending several months off the coast of South Viet Nam, the Seminole has visited Japan, Taiwan, The Republic of South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. Neff, 25, son of Mrs. Freeds J. Neff, New Paris, was assigned January 27 to the 31st engineer battalion near Phouc Vinh, Viet Nam, as a personnel management specialist.
