Syracuse Elementary And Junior High School Science Fair Held
This year, the Syracuse elementary and junior high schools held a joint science fair on Saturday, Feb. 22. This is the first year the two schools have participated together in a single fair. Previously, they had participated in separate science fairs. The fair is sponsored by the Syracuse P.T.A. Mrs. Freda Rinker is president of this organization, which has been reorganized this year to include the junior high parents and teachers. The participants in this year’s fair were from grades 3-8. The exhibits in grades three, four and five were judged by grade level. Those in grades six, seven and eight were judged by categories. Sixty projects were exhibited this year at the fair. Though the quantity of projects seemed low, the quality seemed high. The projects were judged Saturday morning from 8 to 11 by two teams of judges. Michael Neff and William Kitson, teachers from Wawasee high school, judged the projects of students in grades 6-8. The little girl weighed five pounds. 14 ounces and was 18 and one half inches long. The Smiths other daughter is Susan, who is three years old. BELL, Nichole Ann Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bell of Morocco are the parents of a daughter named Nichole Ann born February 18. Nichole tipped the scales at seven pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches in length. She has two sisters, Debbie, 7, and Crystal, 3, and one brother, Greg, who is

They asked the exhibitors many questions about their projects to see how well they understood what they had done. After the judging was completed, the cafeteria was opened to the public from 1 to 4 Saturday afternoon. An awards program followed the open house at 4 in the girls’ gymnasium in the junior high school. At this program. Ralph Bushong, a science teacher at Syracuse junior high school, made some comments about the science fair and introduced Robert D. Hamman, principal of Syracuse elementary school and William E. Dorsey, principal of Syracuse junior high school. Hamman and Dorsey presented the awards to their students. By grade level,ribbons were presented to the following elementary students: Grade 3 — First, Chris Henning; second, Terry Smith; third, Diane Pittman; honorable mention, Kathy Brouwer. Grade 4 — First, Paul Schrumpf and Sandy Rinker; second,
one year old. Mrs. Bell is the former Sherry Miller of Milford. Grandmothers are Mrs. Margaret Bell of Goshen and Mrs. Partha Miller of Milford. DAVIS, Kristina Sue Mr. and Mrs. Leßoy Davis of North Webster are the parents of their first child, a daughter, whom they have named Kristina Sue. She was born at the Whitley County hospital at 12:35 p.m. Februarv 16. The mother is the former Vicki Sue Durfey. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. *Ed Durfey of r 6 Columbia City. The paternal grandmother is Mrs. Mary Davis of Sidney. WEST, Scott Allen Mr. and Mrs. David West of Zionsville are the proud parents of a son, Scott Allen, who arrived at the Methodist hospital, Indianapolis, February 13. He weighed in at nine pounds, 14 ounces and has a sister, Diane Elizabeth, three years old. The grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink of Syracuse and Mrs. Allen West of Muncie. KNOWLES, Charles Christopher Mr. and Mrs. Gary Knowles of Jacksonville, Fla., are the parents of their third son, Charles Christopher, born February 8 in Saint Vincent’s hospital at Jacksonville. The baby weighed in at eight pounds, 10 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Raymond of Arcadia, Fla., are the grandparents. Mrs. Knowles is a former Syracuse resident. STANLEY Twins Mr. and Mrs. K. V. Stanley of Daytcn, Ohio, are the proud parents of their second set of twins bom February 12 in the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Dayton. The son weighed five pounds and the daughter four pounds, 12 ounces. In addition to three-year-old boy and girl twins, Kevin and Kristin, the Stanleys also have a six-year-old son, Jeff. MILFORD—LEESBURG Hospital Notes George R. Paton, Lake Tippecanoe, Leesburg, was dismissed Wednesday from Goshen hospital. Randall Honeycutt, r 1 Leesburg, was admitted to and dismissed from the Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Tina M. Honeycutt, 3, daughter of Gene Honeycutt, r 1 Leesburg, was treated in the emergency room of the Murphy Medical Center on Thursday. Ricky Lynn Creekmore, five months old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Creekmore, r 1 Leesburg, was admitted to the Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Darrell Blaine Ruch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max B. Ruch, Warsaw. was dismissed from the Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Mrs. Harold Manor of Milford will enter the Elkhart hospital today (Wednesday) for observation. Dickie Reed was transferred Monday by ambulance from the Goshen hospital to the Orn nursing home in Milford. John Gardner, Sr., of Milford was admitted to the Goshen hospital on Tuesday. SYRACUSE Hospital Notes RAYMOND POYNTER SUFFERS ATTACK Raymond Poynter of Syracuse, a businessman at Milford, is a patient in the Goshen hospital. He was taken to the hospital late last week after suffering a heart attack. No visitors are allowed at this time, however, he is improving. Charles Williams, r 1 North Webster, is a patient in the Whitley County hospital. James Jensen, North Webster, was treated in the emergency room of the Murphy Medical Center last week and released. J. Barton Cox, Syracuse, returned to his home Friday from the Goshen hospital and is resting at his home. Don Robbins, Cromwell publisher, who has been a patient in the Goshen hospital, has returned to his home. Lou Craig of Syracuse was admitted to the Whitley County hospital February 17 where he underwent surgery. Mrs. Hattie Brown, Syracuse, has returned to her home from the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Donald Martin, r 1 North Webster, is a patient in Linvill hospital at Columbia City. Melvin Kelly of r 1 Syracuse was admitted early Sunday morning to the Goshen hospital. Cadet Kramer, a member of the class of ’7l, was selected for his outstanding military performance. He will wear a silver wreath designating the honor accorded him by the academy commandant of cadets. He has also been selected for the position of squadron unit color bearer with the rank of cadet staff sergeant. The cadet will be commissioned a second lieutenant and awarded a B.
