Those in attendance cheered as the school’s varsity cheerleaders took over for the Aces and scored a basket, not for the aces, but for the teachers. The evening’s activity was the first for Wawasee’s new gym. The first home basketball game will be played in the gym Friday as the Warriors challenge the Cubs from Pierceton.
Jimtown Defeats Warriors 60-44
Wawasee traveled to Jimtown Friday and lost to the Jimmies 60-44 as all members of the local team turned up with a cold hand for the evening. The Jimmies’ Pete Campbell was top man for the evening as be hit for 18. Warrior Dave Elliott was close behind with 16. He was the only Warrior in double figures. Wawasee was out in front the
Wawasee Wrestlers Win Meet The Wawas?e varsity Wrestlers won their first varsity home meet in the new gym last Thursday night 44-8 against another first-year wrestling squad, Wakarusa. Saturday morning the tables were turned on the Warriors as a tough and experienced Pierceton squad defeated the Warriors 448. Against Pierceton, winner Roger Korenstra extended his individual record to Kent Wilson extended his To 5-2. Going into the conference wrestling tourney, the first conference tourney ever for the wrestlers finds Roger Korenstra 9-3, Kent Wilson 5-2, and Jay DeSomer 8-4 having the best records for Wawasee, with Mark Treesh, Alan Butt, Steve Coburn, Jim Marlette, Stan Kilmer, Jay Anglin, Wes Kiftner, John Leemon and Steve Tatman following right behind, trying for honors this Saturday at Rochester. The conference tourney will be 5 held all day Saturday, Feb. 1, at Rochester. The preliminaries start at 10 am. and at 2 p.m. The finals and consolations will begin promptly at 6 p.m. D. BIRTHS SNIDER, Melissa Marie Mr. and Mrs. Larry Snider of New Paris are the parents of a daughter named Melissa Marie, born in the Goshen hospital Sunday, Jan. 26, at 9:22 a.m. Melissa tipped the scales at seven pounds, 15 ounces, and was 20 inches in length. The maternal grandfather is Marshall Miller of Milford, and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Snider of New Paris. WAGNER, Jennifer Lynn = SP4 and Mrs. Max Wagner are the parents of a daughter, Jennifer Lynn, their first child, born at a Fort Devens, Mass., hospital January 21 and weighing six pounds, five ounces at birth. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Kern and Mr. and Mrs. Art Wagner, all of Syracuse. ; Adult Farmers To Hear Veterinarians This Thursday night at 7:30 p. m. in the Wawasee high school vo ag room, the Wawasee adult farmer class will hear representatives of the Milford veterinarian clinic speak on the topic of feed additives. Feed additives are chemicals which can be added to feed stuffs to induce higher yields from and to prevent or control diseases in farm animals. Some controversy is evident today over the usage of feed additives by farmers and the government is regulating the usage of them. The Milford veterinarians are exceptionally well informed about feed additives and their usage and will elaborate on them to some degree. Any adult in the Lakeland Community School Corporation is invited to attend this and all of'-the other remaining adult larmer classes. Last week 19 adults heard Willis Alt speak on the developments in crop farming and next week the topic under nre will be farmstead layout and new farm equipment. TEACHERS PLAY ACES — WOWO Air Ace Cumby Walton went high in the air to score two for his team last Wednesday as the famous Fort Wayne team met the Wawasee faculty. The Aces won the game 70-66. Walton is shown above being guarded by a much shorter faculty member Paul Royer who was given the name of Spark Plug for the evening’s game. Also shown is faculty member Doug Quine. A total of $1,200 was realized from the game and will be used to help pay for athletic equipment and uniforms.
Helping Hands lii January Meeting Members of the Helping Hands Missionary Society of the Pleasant View church met recently in the home of Francis Groninger, west of Warsaw for their January meeting. The meeting was opened in the usual form with Chearyl Miller leading the group in prayer. Roll call was "What You Like About Winter." Francis Groninger gave the devotions, “The Story of Eve”, and Chearyl Miller presided over the business session. Refreshments were served following ifhe prayer by Neva Redman to the 12 members present. NIPSCo Declares Quarterly Dividend Directors of Northern Indiana Public Service Company have declared a quartely dividend of 28 V 2 eent§ a share on the outstanding common stock of the company. Dean H. Mitchell, NIPSCo chairman and chief executive officer, announced today. The dividend is payable March 20. 1969, to shareholders of record at the close of business February 28, 1969. The board also declared a dividend of 44i cents a share cn the outstanding 4.40 per cent cumulative preference stock of the company, payable March 31, 1969, to shareholders of record at the close of business March 3, 1969.
