The following appointments for 1969 were made: Howard Hedcner — City attorney Donald Ritter — Chief of police Donald Gillespie — Fire chief Maurice Cass — City building inspector The board of public works and safety will be comprised of Howard Hecktier, Clyde Davis, John Golden and Ruth Miller, secretary; the board of streets, alleys and sewers; Clyde Davis, Stacey Archer and Richard Fisel; police board, Clyde Davis, Richard Fisel and Grover Patrick; fire board, Jack Miller, Grover Patrick, Jack Miller, Stacey Archer
and Richard Fisel. Paul Tyler was appointed to the park board to fill the unexpired term of James Tranter, Jr., who moved to Florida. Robert Einsiedel was named as chairman of the park board. A letter was read from the Fort Wayne Police Academy stating that policeman Robert Durham who recently completed his schooling in that city had received exceptional grades. Mayor Golden reported that the matter of . the traffic light at the comer of Cavin and Third streets will receive a final decision by the state highway commission after the completion of the new bank building now under construction on that corner. Everett Sensibaugh has been appointed chief of Ligonier Civil Defense. A committee consisting of councilmen Archer, Patrick and Davis was appointed to work on specifications for a new dump truck needed by the city street department. A report on the financial condition of the city, showed a gain of $7,686 in the general fund and SB4B in parking meter revenue over 1968. Total funds showed art increase of $39,461. BPW Has Thursday Meeting Business and Professional Women held their January meeting Thursday evening. Twenty - four members were present. Mrs. Hilah Mathew and Miss Grace Bickel were hostesses. During the business meeting it was voted to give a donation to a Mennonite Relief Fund in

Chicago in memory of Miss Marilyn Hartzler. Miss Hartzler, junior past president of the group, had donated part of every week for many years working with the poor in the Chicago area. Members decided to have secret pals for the coming year and voted to have a benefit card party in the near future. The next meeting will be February 20 with the legislation committee in charge. ATTEND ART SOCIETY MEETING Mrs. Agnes Grissom, Mrs. Eunice Painter and Mrs. Rose Cunningham attended the January meeting of the Noble County Art Society held at Albion Thursday evening. Mrs. Edna Root, president, told of her experiences delivering 50 paintings belonging to members to Indianapolis, and assisting in hanging them in the rotunda of the State House. She was assisted by Mrs. Helen Treesh. Plans were made for future activities of the group. Lawrence Rex Receives Discharge Sgt. Lawrence Dode Rex, son of Howard Rex, has been discharged from the U. S. air force. Sgt. and Mrs. Rex will be arriving in Ligonier from Riverside, Calif., sometime |fxt week. MRS. The West Noble high school guidance department now has forms to be filled out and returned by February 15. Filling out of these forms will make the participant eligible for both the local and state contests. Hours Given For License Branch When the Ligonier license branch opened for business on Friday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. it was in their new location. Branch manager Gene Moser has announced that her offices will be at 105 Second street. Hours will be in effect as follows: 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. week days, except Wednesday and Saturday. These conferences are for the purpose of discussing the problems and progress of the children of the school. COMMUNITY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hite and daughter, Sally, and Mrs. Nona Baker were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Johnson at LaGrange. The family celebrated the birthday of Mr. Hite. Randy Gangwer has been transferred from Goshen hospital to South Bend Memorial hospital where he will undergo tests and medical treatment. Randy was injured in an automobile accident some time ago. Mrs. Cliff Pettit is a patient in Parkview hospital, Fort Wayne, where she underwent surgery. Rev. Woodrow, Indianapolis, is on duty at Udcrn Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, he was assigned to MacDili AFB, Fla. ’ The major, a 1952 graduate of Ben Davis high school was commissioned in 1957 through the air force reserve officer training corps program at Butler university where he earned his B. S. degree in physical education. He also received a B. S. degree from the Texas technological college and is a member of Sigma Chi and Tau Beta Pi fraternities.
