LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cunningham Dr. Spencer Back From Iran Dr. Sidney Spencer has returned from Iran where he attended the 15th annual conference for Overseas American Schools in the Tehran Hilton hotel and sponsored by the U.S. state department. (FROM THIS WEEK’S PIERCETON PRESS) Reed Disappointed When Board Os Controls Candidate List Was Released
Pierceton principal Richard V. Reed was disappointed when the candidate list for the Indiana High School Athletic Association board of controls was released recently. Reed, who had filed for a position on the board of controls, found his name missing from the list school principals were to vote on. The board of controls members are made up of representatives from five districts, and each district has five classes. Reed had filed for a position on the board from district two, class two. There are 106 high schools in district two, Reed said this week. He had filed his petition of candidacy by mail on October 16 with the IHSAA office in Indianapolis, several weeks before the November deadline. It was signed by five principals in the district.

When the formal list of candidates was released recently, and Reed’s name was not present, in contacted the IHSAA office in Indianapolis, only to be told they had not received his petition in the mail. In a letter principal Reed received from Phil Eskew, Indiana’s “high commissioner” of basketball, in which his regrets were expressed over the unfortunate incident, Eskew said this would alert the Indianaplis office to contact anyone who had asked for petitions prior to the deadline in future years. Principal Reed said any faculty member of any IHSAA member school may seek a position on the board of controls, but that only principals vote for candidates. He said, since he was the only principal who filed in district two, class two. he felt he had a good chance for membership on the board.
