Tom is relief police officer here and one day recently he picked up a cat uptown and carried it to the police car. After putting it in the back seat he got in the front seat, but by then the cat had jumped out the front window, away from the driver. By the time Tom discovered the cat had gone, it was long gone. % «. * I was talking to M/Sgt. William Moore of the U. S. air force recruiting office at Fort Wayne, and he says the air force is very much in need of nurses. There are many advantages to being a nurse in the air force, one, not the least, is being able to travel expense free. I hear she had some dental work done and mostly stayed home and rested. « * « Any of you who attended the Business and Professional Women’s club, “Civic Night at Syracuse”, last spring, will want to see the 1969 version. The women work hard, as do all those taking part in the acts, and a really great crowd will repay those hard-working people. ♦ * * I have received my first Christmas card, also a gift. The gifts are pictures of my two granddaughters. They are school pictures and really good ones this year, the family very pleased. The pictures I received are of Cindy and Carole Gilbert, daughters of the Tom Gilberts. a # o Our weather from snow last week has been warming up and suppose to last awhile. We will miss the smiling face of Mary Ganshorn on Main street after the first of the year. Hear she will be replaced by another smiling face, that of Betty Schlotterback. Still time to mail that card to a serviceman. Sherman Deatons Entertain Brothers And Sisters Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Deaton, r 2 Syracuse, entertained the brothers and sisters of Mr. Deaton on Sur.dav in the House of Friendship, south of town. This is an annual event. A carry-in dinner was ejoyed at the noon hour. Attending were Rev. George Deaton and Mr. and Mrs. John Deaton of Claypool; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller of North Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Orien Deaton of Warsaw; Mrs. Viola Calvert of Akron; Mrs. Delphia Conklin of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Fluella Tucker of Hunterstown; and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Watkins and Robin of r 2 Syracuse. One sister, Mrs. Florence Haines of Etna Green, was unable to attend because of illness.
Unity Week Prayer Service At Syracuse
Representatives of the Protestant and Catholic churches of the Syracuse community met for the first time last Sunday to make plans for a unity prayer service and fellowship under the joint sponsorship of the churches of the community. Under the leadership of Rev. Richard Ohlemacher, OSC, of the Wawasee Preparatory school the decision was made to hold this event in the auditorium of the Wawasee Preparatory school on Sunday, Jan. 19. at 7 p.m. Various committees were appointed to implement the plans. A music committee consisting of Robert Jones, Chris Koher, Mrs. Jack Robert Penick and Rev. Ohlemacher are to olan for a joint choir effort. The clergy present were given the task of the format of the worshio service and a tenative program was outlined in a post meeting session. A publicity committee consisting of Rev. Theodore L. Hertenstein, chairman, Elmer Smith, John Walker, Mrs. Eugene Hall, Robert Kitson and Leonard Barnhart was appointed for promotion. One usher was to be appointed from each of the sponsoring churches as was also a man, woman and two teenagers from each of the churches to serve as host and hostesses in the fellowship hour following the service. The Wawasee Prep boys were to be responsible for the refreshments. Representatives present at the initial meeting were from the St. Martin de Porres Catholic church, St. Andrew and Calvary United Methodist, Grace Lutheran church, Wawasee Preparatory school, Syracuse Church of the Brethren and the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel. Another session has been set for Sunday, Dec. 15, at the auditorium of the Wawasee Preparatory school at 3 p.m.

K, 1 a M ROBERT GRAY Missionary To Be Featured At Church Rev. Robert L. Gray, missionary to Peru, will be the speaker at the Syracuse Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Rev. and Mrs. Gray are missionaries to Peru and are on furlough. This is only their second furlough since being assigned to Peru in 1958. Rev. Gray worked in northern Peru for a time and did evangelistic work in the mountain areas and the interior of that country. For three years he served as the Bible school director at Chiclayo and since 1964 has been pastoring a church at Lima and starting new churches in the area. The missionary service will feature the work of the church in Peru, including the coastal cities, mountain areas and the work among the Aquaruna Indians. There will be an inspirational missionary message and colored slides of the work at Peru. Rev. Robert A. Scheidly, pastor of the church, invites the public to attend.

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at the Tracing Santa Santa’s source, legend says, goes back to the fourth century, when St. Nicholas, a bishop of Asia Minor, was noted for his generosity and gift-giving. In some countries, St. Nicholas still retains his role as gift-bearer. His day is, traditionally, December 6th, and European children await him on St. Nicholas Eve, December sth. A gray horse and a white donkey have each been credited with the honor of transporting him on his gift-giv-ing journeys. The Christmas tree comes from Germany.

Mr. And Mrs. Lester Wolfe To Observe 63rd Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wolfe of r 1 Pierceton will observe their 63d wedding anniversary Thursday, Nov. 28. No special celebration is planned. Before their marriage at Warsaw on November 28, 1903, Mrs. Wolfe was Miss Mae Mock, daughter of Wesley and Barbara (Plew) Mock who resided near North Webster. In recalling her wedding day, Mrs. Wolfe said it was bitterly cold and there was a heavy fall of snow. They started housekeeping on the farm owned by Mr. Wolfe’s father, George, and five years later moved to the present home where they have lived continuously. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe are the
