REMEMBER ... WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO The well known Oaks Accounting and Tax Service has been sold to Robert J. Mauzy. Mr. Mauzy will take over the business Friday. Oct. 27. A double birthday celebration was held Saturday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Buffer for Miss Nina Sue and Scotty Dale Huffer. John H. Stack, 71, of r 3 died Monday in his home. Surviving are the widow; one brother, William Stack; and four sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mignery, r 2, are the parehts of a daughter born Friday in the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Sophia Weaver of Lake Wawasee has returned to her home at Terre Haute for the ■winter. FIVE YEARS AGO A decision to enlarge and enhance the new Syracuse dam to be known as the Turkey Creek Memorial Dam was made last night by a seven-man committee. E. W. Frauhiger, Kale Island, caught a pound bass in Lake Wawasee Sunday. The front of the American Legion home was repainted during the week. Terry Schrock of the U.S. air farce has returned from Amarillo, Tex.,-for a 15-day leave here with relatives. The Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church held an all day meeting Thursday in the church parlor. Mrs. Loyal Miller was admit* ted to the Goshen hospital Monday, Oct. 21. TEN YEARS AGO Stanley Hoopingarner, sixth grade teacher, was named to the faculty of the Syracuse school. He will teach history and driver training. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Carr, accompanied by Dr. and Mrs. Stanley Carr of Goshen, attended a family get-together Sunday at Fort Wayne. Norman Clouse has been appointed superintendent of the Wawasee state fish hatcheries and assumed his position October 12. Mrs. Robert Laughlin was hostess Monday night to the Junior Mothers club at a “Come as you are” party. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Coy are the parents of a son bom October 13 in the Goshen hospital. TWENTY YEARS AGO The township fire trucks have been returned to service after repairs in the factory at Anderson. Mrs. E. Obereigner, Mrs. Lulu Foster, Mrs. Roy Riddle and Mrs. Chauncey Hibner gathered in the home of Mrs. H. W. Buchholz Tuesday to help her celebrate her birthday. A “stop and go” sign will likely replace the flicker traffic signal at Main street and road 13. Mrs. Joe Bushong returned home Tuesday from Memorial hospital at South Bend where she had undergone major surgery on October 11. Harold Kuhn is now sales manager for the Strader Motor Sales company here, Kaiser - Frazer dealers. Sam Bushong, Carl Walker and Orley Brown are pheasant hunting in South Dakota this week.
