Town Board InOctober Meeting Board members Dick Klopenstein and Harold Irvine and clerktreasurer Esta Yocum were present at an October meeting of the town beard held Monday evening. Repair of the old truck and discussion on the s purchase of a new truck was discussed and the means of financing to be investigated as no appropriation was made fcr the purchase. Mrs. Mabel Krouse was present and asked for an alley from the school house east to the elevator. Legal aspects of right procedure are to be investigated by Mrs. Krouse and Al Heierman. i Myron Tschupp was present and asked permission to put up a horseshoe pitching court in the alley between his filling station and the Chloe Robison property. The beard thought well of the idea and took the matter under consideration for the future. Ralph Brubaker was present and discussed the area planning commission. Twenty-two thousand dollars have been placed in the county budget for thq expense of the program fcr the coming year. He thought it advisable for the town board to pass an ordinance to bring the town cf Leesburg into the program. Dick Klopenstem voiced his opinion against the area planning commission. Parking on only one side of the street was discussed as a possible solution to the traffic hazard caused by parking on both sides of the street. Cost of a tractor and blade would be SBOO. Annexation of property across state road 15 was discussed. A new ditch is to be dug in order to drain the area south of the town hall at Prairie street. Rev. David Gosser was present and discussed at length the evils of a three way liquor license. Earl Robison thought it advisable for the people in Leesburg to vote yes or no in regard to a three way license. It can not be vote;' on in the town hall, but could be done outside the voting place. Bills were allowed fcr payment and the meeting was adjourned. Burial Rites At Leesburg Cemetery For Mrs. Bessie Bates Burial rites were conducted on Friday afternoon at the Leesburg cemetery for Mrs. Bessie Bates of Fort Wayne, who died Wednesday in the Lutheran hospital. She was the sister of Mrs. Amanda Stackhouse, Mrs. • Iva Etter, Taylor Shively and Robert Shively, all of Leesburg. THREE OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS HONORED The seventh birthday of Eric Randall, the fourteenth birthday of Joan Robinson and the birthday of Mrs. Maxine Robinson were observed Sunday at a dinner at the home of Mrs. Robinson. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. James Randall, Hunter and Shanna, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Randall, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hartter of Milford. Hollar of Leesburg were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Boss at Wawaka. The dinner was in honor of the birthday of Miss Hollar. Merchants Meet At Town Hall In a Monday afternoon meeting of the merchants at the town hall there were six members present. It was decided to hold Leesburg Days next year during the last week in July. A discussion was held on a Welcome Wagon idea for the new people who move into the town or vicinity. Future plans were made for Christmas. Additional decorations have been purchased and plaques will be given for the best in home decorations. A nativity scene will be at the town hall with the choir from the United Methodist church furnishing the music. Blind Goods Sale Held At Reading Club Meeting Mrs. Albert Heierman was in charge of the sale of the blind goods at a meeting of the Reading club held Monday night at the home of Mrs. Max Rosbrough. Roll'call was answered by giving health rules. Mrs. Art Smith gave the devotions and the program consisted of a film on the blind shown by Mrs. Rosbrough. Past Matrons Meet With Mrs. Fred Stookey Mrs. Fred Stookey was hostess to members of the past matrons club Tuesday night at her home with Mrs. Betty Frederick as cohostess. Gaines were played and refreshments of pumpkin pie with whipped cream and coffee were served by the hostesses. Three Arts Club Opens Fall Meeting Members cf the Three Arts club opened their fall meetings with a potluck dinner at the home of the president, Mrs. Manis Miller, at Chapman lake. Barbecued chicken was furnished by the committee which consisted of the officers. There was a short business meeting at which time new members were voted on and were to be invited to attend the next meeting. There were eight present. BIRTHDAY DINNER FOR RAYMOND HARTMAN Week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartman and daughters were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ewing and Steve of Alexandria. On Sunday they had as guests at dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hartman, Kim and Randy, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McCann' in honor of the birthday of Raymod Hartman. I 9 Women’s Missionary Society Meets At Fuller Home The women’s missionary society of Calvary Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. Marvin Fuller for its October meeting. Mrs. John Teeple, director of the recreation program for the nursing home, told of the needs of volunteers for the program. The remainder of the evening was spent in tearing sheets for bandages. A frozen dessert, crackers, nuts, candy, coffee and tea were served by the hostess to the 14. present,

Literary Club Meets At Tippecanoe Lake Home Members of the Literary club held their first fall meeting Monday night at the home of their president, Mrs. Brooks Helm, at Tippecanoe lake. Following the potluck supper roll call was answered by each one paying their dues and telling what they did on vacation. A social evening followed. Mrs. Hosea Rosbrough and Mrs. Bernice Watkins were assisting hostesses. Promoted To Master Sergeant James Hartman has been promoted to the rank of master sergeant, the highest rank which can be held by enlisted men in the Army Veterinary Corps. He is presently serving as non-commis-sioned officer in charge of the First Army Veterinary Unit at Fort Meade, Md. He is the son of Mrs. Maude Hartman. COMMUNITY NEWS Mrs. Cora Gall is staying with Mrs. Myrtle Roberts this week. Miss Doris Tom was called home due to the illness of her father. Mrs. Belle Hollar of Milford was a visitor Tuesday afternoon of Mrs. Emma Hollar and Miss Faye Hollar. Mrs. Ruth Sutton was a Saturday evening caller. William Meek, formerly of Leesburg, but who has been residing at Miller’s Merry Manor, has been admitted to the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert' Teeple attended a dinner meefing of the Soil Conservation Tuesday evening at a restaurant at Pierceton. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ostrom and Mr. and Mrs. George Couse of Chicago spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. 'Paul Byrer. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lamb of South Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Britt Haller of Elkhart were also dinner guests Sunday of the Byrers. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brubaker have returned home from a trip through Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Carlisbad Caverns, El Paso and visited the Hemisfair at San Antonio.

District Deputy Visits Milford OES Chapter Kosciusko chapter number 160, Order of the Eastern Star, Milford, held its regular stated meeting Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Masonic Temple with Mrs. Stanley Scott, worthy matron, and Joe 0. Estep, worthy patron, presiding in the east. Reports on several projects which have been in process were given. Mrs. Carl (“Chris”) Ryan, district deputy of district number 20 was the special guest of the evening, giving instructions from the worthy grand matron, Mrs. Ray (Christine) Oberly, to the officers. There will be initiation tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 and Friday, Oct. 18, visiting matrons and patrons night will be observed. All members are urged to attend. At the close of the meeting refreshments were served in the dining room by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brooks and Mrs. Frank Scott. Barbee Lake Woman Falls At American Legion The Syracuse emergency unit was called to the American Legion hall Saturday night when Mrs. Mae Kuhn of Barbee Lake fell down the stairway and injured herself. 4-H Achievement Night At Syracuse The Syracuse 4-H clubs held their' achievement night Friday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. A pot luck supper was enjoyed. The meeting was called to order by John Busch. The pledge to the flags were led by Bill Stuckman and Susan Wilson. Willis Alt passed out pins to the members. Mr.. Hoopingarner presented the Lions club awards. Rebecca Busch wen the girls’ camp award and Christi Myers was the alternate. Kevin Coy won the boy’s camp award and Steven Hoopingarner was the alternate. Elaine Hoopingarner received the girls’ achievement award and Nathan Busch received the boys’ achievement award. Steve Whittenberger of the Beaver Dam 4-H club showed his slides and gave a talk on his trip to Peru with the 4-H Caravan this past summer. There were 66 members who received pins for completing projects during the year. JOE ETTINGER ANNOUNCES SALES Joe Ettinger, chairman of the Kosciusko county U. S. savings bonds committee has received a report revealing that the county’s savings bonds sales for August were $61,833 compared with $106,390 for the corresponding period of last year. The state’s sales for August were $11,500,851 and $12,126,178 for a like period of 1967 —a loss of 5.2 per cent. On June 1, 1963, interest rj.ces on E and H bonds were raised on the legal limit of 4.25 per cent, when held to maturity, while the interest on freedom shares (savings notes) were hiked to a full five per cent, when held to maturity. Freedom shares were also made available for over-the-counter purchase in combination with E bonds of the same or larger denomination.
