Wawasee Freshmen Defeated By Warsaw 16-0 Wednesday Night
The Wawasee high school freshman football squad met the Warsaw freshmen Wednesday and came out on the short end 164). The host Tigers took the lead in the first period on a threeyard run by Chris Flannery and Bob Gerard’s kick for the extra point made it 74). Neither teams scored in the next two stanzas, but in the fourth period, Warsaw added nine points to assure "{he victory. Bill Walker scored on a two-yard burst and Gerard converted to make it 14-0 and Dave Freeman and John Giant tackled Wawasee quarterback Tim Blue in the end zone for a safety with less than a mir ute to play. Wawasee had 132 yards rush ing and 49 passing with Fred Beer leading the ground gainers with 61 yards. On defense, Ron Simpson had 11 tackles and Tom Fribley eight. Fribley played just half the game as he suffered a neck injury. Wawasee is now 3-2 and will be at East Noble tonight (Wednesday) in a game starting at 1p.m. Former Resident Makes Headlines At Princeton Mrs. William H. (Sharon Treadway) Myers recently made headlines in The Princeton Daily Clarion and at the Gibson bowling lanes there, after rolling a 234 game and a 552 series during league play with Standard Printing team in the Brett Enzler’s Texaco league. Standard Printing took honors with a 939 game and 2,481 series. A former Syracuse resident and member of the Foo and Fay bowling team at Wawasee Bowl, Mrs. Myers is currently holding first place honors for her high game and received a gift certificate for her accomplisliment. Tom Roderick New Maxwelton Professional Tom Roderick has been named new pro at Maxwelton golf course, according to Merle Smith. The club was recently spld by longtime owner Tom Merritt to the Smith - Waldbridge Cathp. Roderick is a 1962 Milford high school graduate where he excelled in baseball and golf. At 15 he was assistant to Gill Givides, pro at Tippecanoe golf club. He attended PGA business school at Clearwater, Fla. in 1962 and 1963. From May 1963 to 1965 he was assistant to Mai McMullen, pro at the Kokomo Country club. He was assistant to Don Byrd at Wawasee golf club in 1967 and assistant to Arnold Koehler, pro at Connersville Country club in 1963. He also served two years in the U.S. army. He will start his new duties at Maxwelton on March 1, 1969. Kermit Welty On Taylor Cross Country Team Kermit Welty, a sophomore at Taylor university and a graduate of Syracuse high school, is a member of the varsity cross country team this year. Taylor is the defending Hoosier college conference champion in cross country. The season opened with a win last week against Indiana Central college and Olivet college. RALPH CLINGAMAN ATTENDS CONFAB Ralvh Clingaman, regional manager for the Midwestern United Life Insurance company, has returned from an agency development conference at the Indianabase insurance company’s home office in Fort Wayne. Clingaman is a resident of r 1 Syracuse and has been with the firm for 20 years. He is a member of the Presidents’ round table, Millionaires club and Ball of Fire club, honoring their top men.

Wawasee Defeats Manchester
For Fourth Victory
By Ric Clingaman The Warriors came home with a victory once again as they defeated Manchester 18-0 Saturday morning. Gary Newcomer started things rolling in the first quarter as he ran around end for a 38-yard touchdown for the Warriors. Extra point by Donn May was declined as it went over the left side of the cross bar. Then again, in the second quarter, Newcomer ran around left end for a 51-yard run for the second TD of the game. PAT was declined again as it went off to the left. Gary did a well-earned job on offense and had his day put out for him as he scored the only touchdowns for the Warriors offense. Cubs Unseated By Akron As Cross Country Champs
Pierceton’s crack cross country team failed to win their eighth consecutive county championship at the county fairgrounds Friday — bowing to Akron. The victors were sparked by Steve Cumberland, who held a commanding lead throughout the entire race and crossed the finish line at' 10:26, followed by South Whitlev’s Eric Swing, who won individual honors a year ago. Pierceton came in second with 53 points which led South Whitley’s total of 56 points. Winning Akron had a comfortable 36 points. Fourth place was Mentone with 100 and fifth was Larwill with 106 points in the five-team Area Women As Delegates To State Convention Mrs. Gene (Ruth) Duke of Big Chapman lake (r 1 Warsaw) and Mrs. Harold (Jan) Smith of Warsaw attended the Beta Sigma Phi state convention at French Lick on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The two women were delegates from the Alpha Beta chapter of Warsaw. They were accompanied by their husbands. Another member of the Alpha Beta chapter who attended was Mrs. William (Mary) Mollenhour of Country Club drive. Registration was from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Election of officers and a business meeting were held Saturday with a banquet and dancing planned for Saturday night. The convention closed mid-afternoon Sunday following a late luncheon. South Whitley Baseball Team Undefeated The South Whitley high school baseball team were undefeated in their fall baseball competition. Team members included Dennis Waybright, Wayne Roberts, Jerry Metzger, Hal Howard, Bob Austin, Eric Swing, Charles Whitaker, Jim Haney, Randy King, Larry Davis, Terry Zorger, Stan Frantz, Tom Davis and Dan Sanson. The team was coached by Bill Patrick. Student managers were Frantz and Sherbahn. POSTMASTER AND MRS. PEQUIGNOT ARRIVE HOME Pierceton postmaster and Mrs Edward Pequignot arrived home Sunday from a week in Washington, D.C., where they attended sessions of the national postmasters’ convention. Postmasters were addressed by President Lyndon Johnson and by Postmaster General Marvin Watson. They heard talks by a number of other national dignitaries. En route home the Pequignots visited historic Williamsburg and a number of Civil War battlefields Angel Falls in Venezuela, 3,212, is the highest waterfall in the world.
SYRACUSE—NORTH WEBSTER Hospital Notos Mrs. H. T. Miller of North Webster is a patient in the Linvill hospital at Columbia City. James A. Ridgeway of r 4 Syracuse has been dismissed from Memorial hospital, South Bend. He underwent eye surgery and is improving nicely. Mrs. William Jones, North Webster, has been admitted to the Murphy Medical Center. Mrs. Robert Busch, r 3 Syracuse, was released from the Murphy Medical Center over the week end. Robert Bell, r 4 Syracuse, is a patient in the Goshen hospital suffering with pneumonia. He is some what improved. His room number is 239. MILFORD-LEESBURG Hospital Notes Mrs. Veva Bassett of r 1 Leesburg was admitted to the Murphy Medical Center on Wednesday. Mrs. Alma Bowers, Leesburg, was dismissed from Whitley County hospital last week. Mrs. Walter Kasper of Milford was dismissed from the Goshen hospital on Saturday. Mrs. Kasper was there for observation. Alfred E. Close, r 1 Leesburg, was admitted to the Murphy Medical Center on Monday. G. W. Freeman of r 1 Leesburg (Tippecanoe lake) is a patient in the Linvill Memorial hospital, Columbia City, where he was taken the latter part of last week after suffering a stroke. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cain and Sandra of Milford were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Cain of Bloomingdale.

Classes will convene on Sunday evening, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. and continue through Thursday evening, Oct. 17. Rev. Fred Burkey, director of the National Board of Christian Education of the Brethren church, will be the instructor. C., where they visited Mrs. Scheuer’s brother, airman Robert E. Buster, Jr., Mrs. Buster, Cindy Jo and Robbie. They spent a night each way enroute with Mrs. Scheuer’s father, Robert E. Buster at Scottsburg. The Scheuer children, Bianca and Bret, spent the week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Scheuer, at Plymouth. SYRACUSE LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Hamman have moved from Remington to the property of Terry McClintic oh west Main street, Syracuse. Mr. Hamman is the elementary principal at Syracuse.
Milford First Brethren Church WMS Has Meeting The Women’s Missionary Society of the First Brethren church of Milford met Thursday evening in the home of Mrs. Gail Geiger. Mrs. Hubert Cain presided over the business meeting for the evening. Plans were made for attending the rally at the Nappanee church on Thursday. The devotion leader, Mrs. Gordon Rhodes, reviewed a chapter from the study book. The Bible study, “God, Our Chief Love”, was given by Mrs. Joe Estep. Mrs. Ernest Patterson told the story of an Old Testament heroine, “Ruth”. Refreshments of pumpkin pie, nuts, Halloween candy and; coffee were served to the 22 members present by the hostess-and co-host-ess, Mrs. Rhodes.
