Will Erwin Day And Opening Os Headquarters Will Erwin, Indiana state senator and Republican candidate for Congress, celebrated his 43d birthday Saturday at the opening of new Republican headquarters in Warsaw and Plymouth. The new headquarters in Warsaw are in the former Judd building, although the former headquarters in the Boice building will be retained. It was estimated about 300 persons were in attendance during the hours from noon until evening. In the afternoon a cakecutting ceremony was performed by the candidate, Erwin, on a huge cake topped by an elephant. The cake was baked for him by Mrs. Russell Smith. In the evening a supper of beef barbecue sandwiches, baked, ham sandwiches, various salads and relishes were served to the precinct committeemen, their wives and other workers in the Shrine building at the fairgrounds. More than 100 persons attended the evening meeting. Giles Hoffer spoke on work needed to be completed and mentioned the deadline date of October 7 for registration. He also said many persons helped in obtaining the new building, but Carl Zimmer completed the transaction at a cost free amount to the Republican party. On the subject of the recent cattle theft Will Erwin said he would stand behind the law enforcement officers in what ever they did regarding the culprits. He said all the “yak” about Will Erwin was really for the party and not for Will Erwin. He said there was too much talk about Will Erwin. Thames Mauzy was present and said the recent Democrat convention in Chicago was a successful one for the Republicans. He brought out the name used in referring to the vice president of “Humpty Dumpty” and said it suits him. He had copies of Edgar Whitcomb’s ’book, “Escape From Corrigedor” there, which monies derived from the 75 cent price would be turned over to the county Republican party. Several other candidates were there and spoke, including William Ellis, Bessie Himes, middle district commissioner Fred Gilliam. It was announced that Eli Lily of Syracuse had given SI,OOO to the Republican party and this amount would be credited to Kosciusko county. Joe Rovenstein offered to be “trouble shooter” for any of the candidates at any time, if needed. Mauzv expressed the regrets of Arthur Coblentz and Ralph Heine at not being present as they were attending another meeting in Fort Wayne. After a few more reports and instructions from the chairman, Hoffer, vice chairman Miss Pauline Jordan, Mrs. Nellie Garman, T. Ethna Scott and Mrs. Norman Clouse as to the duties of the precinct committeemen, the meeting adjourned. Miss Jordan expressed sorrow of the entire Republican party at the death of Mrs. Ben Eagler, long time Republican worker, bn Friday.

Mrs. Jean Rogers and Mindy Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dahl Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kidder OTTO BEER, SR. Dad rarely complained of his illness Though weak and weary bent. But. instead, praised God for a long life. And all the children He sent.
He had compassion for humanity, Would visit the sick and the poor, His homemade cookies and honey Would help in some measure to cure. If you were Unhappy or in trouble He’d stop to help you out; Then back he’d go to his red truck And to his bee route. We couldn’t ask for a better father; But if he stepped on our toes. It really didn’t hurt much Because we loved him so. Dad Beer would hold no grudges But tell you to your face If you had hurt his feelings. Or said words out of place. He made you feel at ease With nothing to fear, His smile and his handshake Made this plain and clear. Dad won’t go down in history Well known for his fame He never strived for worldliness But Heaven was his aim. He lived for God Almighty And believed in the Savior and King I’m sure he’ll be in Heaven when The choir will burst forth and sing. We loved you, father, we loved you More than our tongues can say, But the Father above loved you more — That’s why he’s taken you away. We praise .you, Jesus, for your blood. Hallelujah, for this! We praise you for washing our sins, * And we’ll meet in Heaven’s bliss. By Daughter-in-Law Mrs. Eldon Bser
