SWEET VICTORY— The Wawasee Warriors, shown above in a play which helped them win their first home game, will meet Jimtown at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday on the Wawasee field. On September 14 they downed LaVille 24-0 in their first home outing. The Warriors appear in white jerseys in the above photo which was taken by Jerry Myers. Area residents are urged to attend the home games and support the team. Two additional games will be played at the Wawasee field this fall in addition to the one planned for Saturday.
Wawasee Freshmen Down By Triton Team 20-13 Thursday
Wawasee high school’s freshman football team tasted defeat for a first time Thursday afternoon, but it took a junior varsity club to get the job done. The Wawasee unit of coach Don Bradley and his assistant, Jerry Minton, dropped a 20-13 decision to the Triton junior varsity squad on the Triton field. Triton scored early, as Dan Sharpe returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and he ran the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Wawasee made it 7-6 on a 43yard pass play from co-captain Tim Blue, to Fred Beer. In the third quarter, Triton made it 146 as John Parker tallied on a two-yard run and Sharpe ran the extra point. The Warriors battled back with Jeff Hughes scoring on a 14-yard pass from Blue who then ran the extra point for a 14-13 score. Triton added the clincher on Sharpe’s five-yard run in the closing minute of the game for a 20-13 final score. Blue sparked the Warriors with 42 yards rushing and 110 passing. Coach Bradley, who was pleased with the performance against a junior varsity unit, named Ron Simpson and Fred Beer, with 10 tackles each, as outstanding on defense. Wawasee now has a 2-1 record and will play host to the Fairfield “B" team Thursday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. on the new Wawasee gridiron.
Wowasee Downs Nappanee
Wawasee downed the Nappanee Bulldogs reserve squad 24-0 in a game played on the Nappanee field last Saturday morning. The Warriors scored their first touchdown early in the game as they went from their own 38 yard line on the opening kickoff. The kcal boys scored again before the first pericd ended as Roger Korenstra went from the 42 yard line of the Warriors to the 48 yard line of Nappanee. Then Cory connected with a 48-yard pass play to Mikel to give the team a 12-0 lead. The third quarter touchdown was a result cf a Nappanee fumble

Syracuse Jr. High Downs West Noble Syracuse junior high school, led by quarterback Greg Ummel, defeated the West Noble Chargers by a score of 20 to 7. This was the first victory for the Yellow Jackets this season. They now have won one and lost one. The leading rusher for the Yellow Jackets was Kim Cripe, a 170 fullback who rushed for 130 yards. The first touchdown came in the first quarter when Randy Brady ran up the middle for 14 yards and the score. The point at the touchdown was scored by Kim Cripe. The other two scores came in the second and fourth periods when Cripe ran for eight yard and thirty-five yards. Fine defense by Dwight Dean, Brad Butler, Jay Jones, and Randy Niles held the opponents to only 24 yards rushing. Randy Niles, playing at left linebacker, intercepted two passes; and Bruce Neer intercepted one in the fourth quarter. Cheerleaders The Syracuse junior high cheerleaders were elected Friday afternoon by the student body. The following girls were elected from the seventh grade: Teresa Ummel, Daretta Grisamer, Cindie Beemer, and Kathy Butler. Anderson Man Dies While Visiting At Lake Charles R. Humphrey, 64, vice president of Citizens Banking company, Anderson, was stricken Saturday afternoon while visiting friends in the Highland View drive area, Lake Wawasee. He died in the Goshen hospital at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. A native of Greensburg, Mr. Humphrey was bom July 6, 1904. He is survived by his widow; a son, James, of Marion; a granddaughter; a brother and two sisters. All are from Anderson. Funeral services were held at Anderson. Court News Two Arrested At Milford Milford chief of police Don Drake reports two arrests recently. The first was on Saturday and was for driving while suspended. Ticketed was Larry Scheller of 210 west Main street. The second arrest was that of Romone Salazar of Milford who was arrested for having no operator’s license. Divorce Filed Kay Loree Clark, r 1 North Webster, has filed a suit for divorce in Kosciusko circuit court against Gary Carl Clark. The plaintiff seeks custody of two minor children. They were married June 15, 1961, and separated September 13, 1968. Filed Suit Yeiter and Ganshorn, Warsaw, have filed suit against Roger Holsclaw, r 2 Leesburg. They seek a judgment of $1,498.16. Midwest Credit Bureuas, Inc., filed a complaint on account suit in Kosciusko circuit court against John H. Husted of r 1 Milford. The suit was later dismissed. Marriage Licenses John Allen Martin, 24, r 1 Milford, and Leona Mae Yoder, 21, r 1 Milford, both Milford trailer factory employees, have applied for a marriage license at the office of Kosciusko county clerk T. Ethna Scott. Mrs. Thurman Rinker, North Webster, was released from the Whitley County hospital last week. Mrs. Glada Weaver, Syracuse, is a patient in the Coleman hospital, Indianapolis, where she underwent surgery. She is reported to be improving. Miss Evaleen Rookstool, Syracuse, is a patient in the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Noble Blocker and Mrs. Lulu Francis, Syracuse, have returned from Rochester, Minn., where they underwent tests in the Mayo clinic. Kevin Allen Enyeart, 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Enyeart, North Webster, was treated in the emergency room of the Murphy Medical Center over the week end and released. John L. Ashby, r 3 Syracuse, is a patient in the Murphy Medical Center. Lisa Strombeck, five, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Strombeck, North Webster, was treated in the emergency room of the Murphy Medical Center over the week end and released. Sheri Anne Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Miller of Dewart Lake was admitted to the Goshen hospital Friday for medical treatment. She is in room no. 323. L. C. Two Wawasee high school baseball players received silver baseballs from the Northern Lakes Conference for the 1963 season. They were named to the second team. HARLAN BEER. NAPPANEE, INJURED MONDAY Hailan Beer of Beer and Slabaugh. Inc., Nappanee, was injured Monday while working at the site of the new WaNee high school. When a dump truck became stuck a push cap was used to try and free it. Mr. Beer’s index finger on his right hand was caught between the cap and the truck. It was necessary to graft skin from another finger unto the index finger to save it. He remains in the Elkhart hospital. HUMOR IN THE NEWS John S. Wagner skidded off the road in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, and might have been seriously injured as his small sports car plunged into a deep ravine, but while soar- , ing through the air it landed plump into the top of a big tree and Mr. Wagner climbed down unhurt.
