REMEMBER ... WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO The Lakeland football season is underway with practice starting this week. Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Wagoner and family entertained at a block party Friday evening in their home on west Main street. Mrs. Glenn Torrence is a patient in the Goshen hospital. Mr. and Mrs. John Nyikos, Jr., are the parents of a daughter, bom August 30 in the Goshen hospital. Miss Sarah Jo Fosbrink and Robert Martin Jones were married Saturday in the First Methodist church at West Lafayette. FIVE YEARS AGO An estimated $2,000 in merchandise was stolen from Tom Socks Sportswear, some time between midnight Sunday and dawn on Labor Day. Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Mabie and Miss Sally entertained at a family dinner in their home Sunday evening. Marvey G. Mygrant, 87, died Friday in the Goshen hospital. He is survived by two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elam and children spent the Labor Day week end at New Castle. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Frauhiger of Lake Wawasee recently attended a wedding at Olean, N. Y. TEN YEARS AGO Trees in the city park that were victims of the Dutch elm disease are being removed and replaced with maple trees. Mrs. Court Slabaugh, Mrs. M. E. Rapp and Mrs. W. Mawhorter attended a school reunion at Payne, Ohio, on Sunday. The three sisters were accompanied by their husbands. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall, family and some friends, all of Indianapolis, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Marshall at Oakwood Park. Miss Jane Nusbaum and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Nusbaum had as guests over the week end, Mr. Mrs. John Peterson, Robert Jans and Miss Joan Brown, all of Chicago. Mrs. Oscar Dahl was dismissed from the Goshen hospital Friday. TWENTY YEARS AGO Approximately 150 masons and guests attended the Goshen order’s annual outing at Lake Wawasee and the Sargent hotel Wednesday afternoon and evening. Harry Culler who has been a rural carrier for the U. S. mail out of the Syracuse office for 35 years retired from service this week. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Ward were hosts for the 22nd annual Daggy family reunion here Sunday. A daughter was bom to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Cripe in the Goshen hospital on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fleischauer and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fleischauer and son and Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes spent Sunday at Buck Lake Ranch near Angola. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO McClintic, Colwell and Gordy finished paving the center of south Main street Wednesday. The sides will be paved as soon as the center is “set.” The Syracuse Grays baseball team defeated the Ligonier team at Cromwell on Labor Day. George Bartholomew brought some green beans to the office that measured over 25 inches. George Schick has sold his plumbing shop to Warren Howard who will continue the business. By the way: The old town pump is on the blink again. Consequently Syracuse is dry. MISS SUSAN BROOKS HONORED AT PARTY Miss Susan Brooks was honored at a birthday party given by her fnother, Mrs. T. R. Brooks, Sr., in her home Tuesday, Aug. 20. Guests attending were Miss Linda Yoder, Miss Nancy Wilson, Miss DiAnn Fisher, Miss Sandra Stamper, Miss Darla Emmons, Miss Joan Felkner, and the guest of honor. Refreshments of cake, punch, mints and nuts were served to the girls.

Miller, r 1 Syracuse, with 54 present. This is the first time in seven years that the parents and all nine children were together. Honored at the reunion were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Miller and family of Covina, Calif., and the birthday of William Miller.
