Some families enjoy the custom of flying the American flag every day. Others get the flag out for special holidays, but too many of us just leave Old Glory in a box in the attic or hall closet. Make it a point to fly your flag proudly this Memorial Day, urges Martha Holst of Purdue university and so do we. Let the children help put up the flag—they enjoy such rituals. Explain to them the importance of showing respect to the flag by being careful not to let it touch the ground at any time
Police Warning Violators..
Because es the increasing misuse of Indiana’s slow-moving vehicle emblems the state police have issued a warning that enforcement action will be taken against violators of the law. Since the law went into effect this year, the fluorescent orange triangle has been seen on dump and pickup trucks, campers, trailers, mail boxes and other stationary objects; used as clearance markers for wide loads and even to mark driveway entrances. All such uses are in direct violation of the law which redhs: “When any vehicle, whether pulled towed, self-propelled or animal-drawn, which is not under ordinary circumstances moved, operated or driven at a speed in excess of 25 miles per hour, is moved, operated or driven on any public highway which is open for vehicular travel, it shall display a triangular slow-moving vehicle emblem mounted as near as is practicable to the center of the mass and at an approximate

The building still stands, but the rail- > read no longer operates a passenger service. In an effort to create an interest in the oldest town in the county the Leesburg merchants have come up with a unique way of showing how proud they are of their town. Mrs. James Engle, president of the merchants’ association, spent hours collecting old pictures of the town. The pictures were then put on post cards.

and bring it in at the first sign of rain. And never leave the flag out overnight —always bring it in at sunset. Make sure, too, that you display the flag correctly. When hung from the staff, the blue field should be nearest the tip of the staff. If you hang your flag flat on the porch or front of your house, the field should be at the top and left as viewed from the front. While you are thinking about it, mark June 14, Flag Day, and July 4 on your calendar as other important flagflying days this summer.

In any event, said emblem shall be mounted so as to be entirely visible from the rear, day or night; and both the emblem and its position of mounting on the vehicle shall meet the specifications established by rules and regulations properly adopted and promulgated by the director of the office of traffic safety.” State police superintendent Robert A. O’Neal expressed belief that continued misuse of the -sign would tend to destroy its value as a warning devise. “The SMV emblem is equally as important as the other signs of life on our roads which include the stop, yield, railroad, warning and information sign and it must be used properly,” he said. Should users of the emblem have questions about how it should be displayed, superintendent O’Neal suggested, they call the nearest state police post for advice. Penalty for violation of the law calls for a fine up to SIOO.
