OES Holds Public Installation Saturday Public installation of officers of chapter 287, Order of the Eastern Star, was held Saturday evening in the Masonic hall. Worthy matron Eileen Lichtenwalter ' conducted the opening with her officers of 1967-1963. She welcomed all the guests with a poem on Friendship. The officers then retired to prepare for the installation ceremony. Hester Felton was installed as worthy matron. She was escorted to the east by her father. Her brothers and wives formed the honor guard and each presented her with a yellow peace rose; Carla Metcalf sang a song to her to the tune of “You, You, You”.,, Keith Feltn was installed as worthy patron and escorted to the east by his granddaughter through a guard formed by several members of the Dots and Dashes, composed of past matrons and past patrons of district 20 when he served as worthy patron in 1965, Carla Metcalf also sang a song to him. The rest of the officers were then installed. The new Worthy matron then gave her speech. She has chosen white and emerald green with a touch of silvenfor her colors. Her motto is “Truth is Eternal and Unchanging”. The emblem will be the dove within the star and her watchword, peace. At the east her husband presented her a crystal gavel. The outgoing matron and patron signed the Bible and Carla Metcalf sang a farewell song to them. They were presented with their past jewels. Rev. Chidister of the Oswego Baptist church , gave the invocation after the ceremony and the installation closed with the Mizpah benediction. The chapter room and the dining hall were decorated with doves and yellow roses. The past matrons’ clubs served a salad bar in the dining hall to the 110 officers and guests. ATTEND FUNERAL IN ILLINOIS Mrs. Lillian Custer of Leesburg: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Custer of* Milfcrd; Mr. and Mrs. Myrtus Custer of Claypool; and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dierks of Sidney attended the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson at Hoopeston, 111., on Wednesday. Mrs. Johnson was a sister of the late John Custer. ATTEND LIONS MEETING Mr. and Mis. Chris Kammerer, Mr. and Mrs. Art Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Albert attended a convention of district 25-G Lions at the senior high school gym in Elkl hart Sunday afternoon and evening. MYF AT INTERVIEW Members of the Clunette and Leesburg MYF group attended an interview Sunday afternoon by Father McNulty at the St. Henry Catholic church in Fort Wayne. There were 18 who attended the interview on Inter-Faith studies. Literary Club Views Pictures On Viet Nam Mrs. Alvin Walker showed pictures cn Viet Nam which her son Doug brought home when he returned from being stationed there, at a meeting of the Literary club Monday night held at the home of Mrs. Herman Ginther. LIGONIER NEWS By Rose Cwmttngham Holy Week Services Begin Sunday Evening Union Holy Week activities in Ligonier will begin on Palm Sunday, April 7, with a Cantata in ths EUB church at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature the combined Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist choirs singing “Hallelujah! What A Savior!” by John W. Peterson. Beginning on Monday there will be evening services at 7:30 p.m. to be held this year in the Catholic church. Rev. Lucius Sommers of the Methodist church will have charge of the Monday night services. Rev. W. R. Simmons of the Presbyterian church will speak on Tuesday evening with Rev. Wilbur Workman of the EUB church on Wednesday evening. On Friday, April 12, the Union Good Friday Service will be held 1 in the same location with a continuous service fron 1:30 to 3 p. m. The choir and organist for the' evening services will be from the same church as the minister in charge. HOME FROM SOUTH AMERICA Dr. and Mrs. Floyd Warren have returned from a t'wo-week trip to South America. They were guests in Cali, Columbia, of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Ramsby and family, former agriculture teacher and 4-H adult leader in the Ligonier area. Mr. Ramsby has been in South America for several years working with the rural electric program of the country. ACCIDENT AT WAUBEE LAKE PARK — Wayne R. Phlegar, 17, Anderson, lost control of a 1964 Chevrolet Sunday at 1:55 p. m. while traveling south on the Camp Mack road along the north side of Waubee lake and slid broadside into two trees. Phlegar received contusions and lacerations to his head and complained of pain in his left rib cage. He was taken to the Goshen hospital and admitted. State police reports show he was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when he approached the left hand curve and lost control. Trooper Barry Black and Milford officer Jon Hershberger investigated. An estimated SBOO damage was reported to the vehicle.

GRASS FIRES KEEP ; FIREMEN BUSY ! Grass fires have kept the Syracuse firemen on call. On Thursday at 7:47 a fire in a storage shed at the Paul Lantz property at 513 south Lake street caused $lO damage. At 4:45 p.m. a grass fire in back of the Ralph Knisley property, owned by John Fisher. There was no damage reported. Damage was small in a fire Friday at 12:22 p.m. in a welding shop on the Leon White farm located on county road 100 north, west of state road' 13. The fire *&was in the shop while it was in use. Firemen kept the blaze from spreading to a large barn near by. There was a grass fire near the Gerry Johnson home at 226 north Shore drive. No damage was reported. On Saturday the department was called at 12:11 p.m. to the Brammer Furniture store south on state road 13 to a grass fire. The firemen were called back at 1:22 when grass was burning aga:n there. At 2:05 they were called to the Elkhart county road 152, north of SR 56. to the Paul Warstler farm to a grass fire. At 11:17 p.m. they answered a call to the Jerry Young home at 301 John street, where a mattress was on fire. The property is owned by Gene Smith. Damages were listed as $250. Syracuse Locals Mrs. Mae Rinker, Syracuse, left this morning (Wednesday) for two weeks vacation in Florida.
