SMM Meet At ] Winona Lake Home The SMM met Monday night ] at the home of Mrs. Marlin Rose at Winona Lake. Mrs. Don Ham- ; ilton gave the Bible study. Mrs. Rose gave the missionary study ( and also served as leader. There were 14 girls and three leaders ' present. Refreshments of popcorn and Kool-ade were served. BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON g FOR J. C. BELL Mrs. John Bell entertained in honor of the fifth birthday of her son, J. C., Monday, March 18. A ’luncheon was served at noon to Kraig and Ken Allen, David > and Mike Hearn, Kelly Shively, Cindy Sullivan and Craig, Clark and Scott Charlton and to Mrs. Robert Allen, Mrs. James Hearn, Mrs. Robert T. Shively, Mrs. Robert Long and Mrs. Ed Charlton. After opening the gifts ice cream and cake were served. MRS. ROBERT SHIVELY HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Robert T. Shively, Mrs. G. W. Murphy and Mrs. Robert Allen had dinner at a Warsaw retaurant March 19 to celebrate the birthday of Mrs. Shively. 18th Anniversary Os Three Arts Club Members of the Three Arts club held their 18th anniversary party at the home of Mrs. Bertha Frederickson. Games were played and refreshments of cake with the numerals 18 on top, nuts, mints and punch were served by Mrs. Art Frederickson and Mrs. Jerry Kammerer. Film To Be Shown At Oswego Calvary Baptist Church A film, “Sign Posts Aloft”, will he shown Sunday evening at the Oswego Calvary Baptist church. It is a Moody Bible Science film and tells the ways airplanes supply missionaries. Everyone is welcome to attend. HELP MAX ALLEN CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY Barry Long was an overnight guest of Max Allen Thursday night. Others who spertf the evening helping Max celebrate his birthday were Mr. and Mrs. Max Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen, Kip, Kay, Kraig and Ken, and Mrs. Robert Long, Kathy and Sherry. Ice cream and cake were served. Public Installation Os Eastern Star Leesburg Chapter 287 Order of Eastern Star will hold public installation Saturday, March 30, at 8 p.m. in the Masonic hall. Arts And Crafts Lesson Given At Eight Square Club Guests from a Warsaw club presented the lesson on arts and crafts at a meeting of the Eight Square club at the home of Mrs. Robert Lozier with Mrs. Dan Knepper as co-hostess. Meditations were given by Mrs. Wallace Huffman. Health and safety remarks were given by Mrs. George Armbruster and the garden lesson was given by
Mrs. Rex Sausman. Members answered roll call by telling an Irish joke. The song, “Annie Laurie”, was reviewed by Mrs. Melvin Gunter and all joined in singing the song. The club fe sponsoring a new club in Suburban Acres and Mrs. Arnold Koehlinger, a member of the Eight Square club, is helping to organize the new club. Refreshments in keeping with St. Patrick’s day were served. Pack Meeting At Methodist Church Monday Night Frank Rader conducted the meeting of the p6b scout packs Monday night in the Fellowship hall of the Methodist church. Den two gave the opening. Awards were presented by Jim Fox to Bob Fawley who received the wolf badge, David Shroyer the denner badge, and Byran McCluen the bobcat badge. In the Webelo group Mitch Rader received the artist badge, Rolf Tusing the athletic and scholarship bade and Barry Ashton the athletic and citizen badge. The closing was given by the Webelos who also served refreshments. After the meeting the exhibits of the work done on projects the previous month were viewed. The next pack meeting will be April 22. Spring Fantasy Party Held By Tri Arts Club Mrs. Floyd Smith was hostess to the Tri Arts club for its spring fantasy party Monday night at the home of Mrs. Jerry Kammerer. She was assisted by Mrs. Morris Huffman and Mrs. Glen Deeter. Games were played with Mrs. Avery Hall receiving first prize and Mrs. Ruben Clover, low. The roving prize Was won by Mrs. Darrell Phillips. Refreshments of Salad, crackers, tea and coffee were served. The next meeting will be held April 15 at the home of Mrs. Albert Kammerer. SHERRY WHYBREW HONORED AT BRIDAL SHOWER Miss Debra Levernier and Miss Vicki Whybrew were hostesses at a miscellaneous bridal shower at the home of Mrs. Ralph Brugh, grandmother of the bride-elect honoring Miss Sherry Whybrew who will become the bride of Alan Andres May 4. The gift table was centered with a centerpiece of a partially opened umbrella leaning against a gift package. The colors of pink and white were carried out in the bridal motif of the plates and napkins. COMMUNITY NEWS Mrs. Nellie Mathews of Indianapolis Spent several days visiting her brother, Harry Beatty. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stookey of South Bend and Mrs. Anna Bishop visited Miss Bertha Bishop Sunday. Miss Bishop is a patiept at the Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne and is improved at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartman had dinner Saturday evening at a Leesburg restaurant in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Hartman. They spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Garman. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Deeter and family of Syracuse were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Deeter. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Buskirk will leave Wednesday to spend the next two or three weeks at Hollywood, Fla. The Battalion had a campout at the barn Friday night. Games were played by the 10 boys and four leaders present. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Immel and Lisa will spend the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Dale Beery and family of Seaman, Ohio. Mrs. Anna Hartman was dismissed from the Goshen hospital to 4 her home Sunday. Ed Blue and William Farrar of Warsaw went to Wisconsin to visit and take notes on a super modern school there. Rev. Richard Woodworth visited Robert Murphy at the Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Glasborn of Fairmount spent Friday and Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Irvine and were guests of the Irvines at the Christian Business Men’s yearly banquet held at the Winona hotel. Mr. and Mrs. George Coon of Fort Wayne were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartman and daughters. The dinner was in honor of the birthdays of Mr. Coon and Mrs. Hartman. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Deeter and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kammerer visited in Fort Wayne Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Teeple, Charlene and Bobbi Lynn, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Teeple. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Huffman, Mrs. Gary Landis and Mrs. Fred Buckingham spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shuler at Mishawaka. Mrs. Buckingham will leave Wednesday for her home in Aboline, Tex. Condict Vandermark is a surgical patient in the Elkhart hospital. His condition is improving. His room number is 327. Larry Workman, Monroe Twp., Killed In Viet Nam Monday
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Workman cf near Pierceton received word yesterday of the death of their cnly child, Larry Eugene, serving with the army in Viet Nam. A letter this week by the Workmans frbm their son stated he was stationed at Loe Kag, near the Cambodian border. Sp/4 Workman was assigned to the first division, second battalion, company B, 18th infantry’s first platoon. He had received artillery medals. He was inducted into the army on March 6, 1967, and underwent basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky., and further training at Camp Polk, La. Workman arrived in Viet Nam on July 26, 1967. The 23-year-old soldier was born in Noble county on September 28, 1944, and moved with his parents to Kosciusko county, Monro? township, in 1945. He was a 1962 graduate of Pierceton high school and took a short farm course at Purdue in 1963. Prior to entering the service he was associated with his father in farming. He was a nine-year member of the Monroe Township Mere Men 4-H club, serving as president for two years. He was also an FFA member and participated in livestock judging. He was a member cf the Pierceton band for five years. Workman was a member of the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren. Services are incomplete pending arrival of the body. Spring Concert Presented Sunday The West Noble high school music department presented its annual spring concert Sunday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m. in the Wawaka school gymnasium. Taking part was the concert band under direction of Raymond Cole and Gary Rhoads, and the girls’ glee club under direction of Mrs. Barbara Oden. The concert included band and choral contest selections.

Ligonier Serviceman Killed In Viet Nam
Specialist 4EA William Eugene Darnell, 102 , /2 east Fourth street, Ligonier, has become the third serviceman from this city to die in Viet Nam. He was killed by an enemy sniper near Siagon on March 19. The 23-year-old serviceman lost his wife, the former Shirley Moore, and six-month-old daughter, .Debra Ann, when they were overcome by fumes from the exhaust pipe of their car while waiting for a train at a Goshen railroad crossing in December, 1966. He enlisted in the service in January, 1967, and was sent to Viet Nam in August, 1967. Before entering service he worked as a filling station attendant in that city. He was a member of the Assembly of God church, Ligonier. The body will be returned.to the Ulrey-Sedgwick funeral home at Ligonier where arrangements are pending. Survivors include the mother, Mrs. Marie L. Darnell of Ligonier; and a sister, Mrs. Russell Sherer, Jr., Topeka. His father was the late John Darnell. To Represent School At Science Fair West Noble high school will be represented at the Tri-State regional science fair on April 5, 6 and 7 at Angola by 20 elementary students, 30 junior division students and 20 senior division students, who are eligible to exhibit. These young people were all winners in the West Noble Science fair held in the Cromwell school building March 8 and 9.
Last Meeting Held Tuesday West Noble adult farmers class held its last meeting of the yea: in the Lgionier school at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday, March 26. Pat Buffy, agronomist from Hooker Chemical, spoke on fertilizer programs and soil fertility. United Baptist Rent Church The old Salem church two miles north of Ligonier on state road 5 has been rented by a group called the United Baptists. Services will be held on the second and fourth week ends of each month, Saturday nights at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. Many preachers from the south will be preaching through out the summer months and a revival will be held at a later date. The small church has been empty for several years. HOME FROM FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cunningham have returned from a two week vacation Spent with Mrs. Cunningham’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schrock, in Bradenton, Fla. They called on a number of former Ligonier residents who are now residing in the Bradenton area, including Mr. and Mrs. Joe Calbeck and Guy Calbeck and daughter, Miss Odean Calbcck. They also visited Dr. and Mrs. Mark Littlejohn and family of Fort Myers, Fla.

Miss Marily Hartsler, club president, appointed Mrs. Roy Chatfield, Mrs. John Golden and Miss Gladys Gillespie to select books to be donated to the Ligonier public library in memory of two deceased members, Mrs. Chlora Doll and Miss Gladys Baker. After the business meeting the group enjoyed a white elephant sale. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Fem Weirich and Mrs. Dennis Tuvell.
