REMEMBER ... WHEN IT HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE ONE YEAR AGO Dr. Wilson S. Parks will be the speaker for the first in a series of community Lenten-Easter servicse beginning Sunday, March 5, in the Syracuse Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Ida Olive Snyder, 81, died February 28 in her home. Survivors are her husband, one sister, and a number of nieces and nephews. The Primary Mothers club met in the home of Mrs. John R. Cripe last Monday. Special speakers were Fathers Tellers and Potts of the seminary. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Kern are the parents of a son born February 23 in the Elkhart hospital. Mrs. Richard Miller returned home from the Elkhart hospital Saturday where she had undergone surgery. FIVE YEARS AGO Local doctors have reported only a few cases of Asian flu in the Lakeland area. The Syracuse Civil Defense unit met Tuesday evening in the fire station and plans were made to hold a fish fry on March 9. Tom Dempsey, 66, died in his home north of Syracuse Tuesday. Survivors are the widow, one grandchild, three sisters, three, brothers, and a half-brother. Mrs. Ralph Knisley underwent surgery in the Goshen hospital on Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Earle Waltz have returned to Lake Wawasee after spending the past month at Lake Worth. Fla. They were accompany ied home by hfc aunt, Mrs. Ada Zeltinger, who had been visiting friends at Winter Haven, Fla. TEN YEARS AGO Mr. and Mrs. Orval Kling have returned from a month’s vacation in Florida. C. E. Beck, township trustee, announced this week that assessing will begin Saturday, Mar. 1. jWawasee, are the parents of a daughter born February 23 in the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne. Much credit goes to the Sherman Deaton family for the remodeling and redecorating of the old Guy school house south of town. It will be used for church and club meetings: TWENTY YEARS AGO John Fisher took to the office of the county auditor at Warsaw Wednesday morning, four red foxes for a total bounty of S2O. Mrs. Laucks Xanders of Syracuse underwent a major operation Sunday evening in the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Adah Miller was hostess to the Wednesday bridge club in the home of her sister, Mrs. Georgia Miller. Mrs. Roy Schamp was a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Donald LeCount of South Bend were Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul LeCount and family. A son, Charles Lee, was born Thursday, Feb. 18, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lamb in the Goshen hospital. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO C. D. Hollett, the Ford dealer, received a carload of Fords last week. Irvin Wogoman was surprised Wednesday evening, the occasion being in honor of his leaving. Guests were Chancey Cory and family, Marion Davis and family, Miss Mary Kincaide, Mrs. Raymond Slack and family, and Jack Wright and family. . Those who took dinner Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Merl Laughlin were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Laughlin and son, John Laughlin and daughter of Michigan, and mother Laughlin of this city.
