Receives Rank Os Captain In a recent ceremony at the U. S. army engineer school at Fort Belvoir, Va., William E. Lyons was promoted to the rank of captain. Captain Lyons is a 1960 graAiate of the Leesburg high school and attended one year at Purdue in the school of engineering before being appointed to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. He receiv- j cd his BS degree in military engineering in 19®. After receiving basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., he served for one year in Thailand where he served as an engineer on the famous highway near Bangkoc. Upon returning to the United States he was assigned to Fort Belvoir, Va. In his present assignment he is a training officer in the operations division, officer of the direction of instruction. Captain Lyons is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Lyons of Leesburg. Cub Scouts Meet At Methodist Church The cub scouts, parents and chil- | dren met Monday night at the Methodist church. Robert Allen is cub master. The Webelo pack under the leadership of Robert Shively assisted by Dennis Dausman gave the opening. Skits were presented by dens 1 and 2. Mrs. Charles Fawley is den mother for 1 and Mrs. Herbert Timmons is den mother for den 2. Bob cat pins were given to the new cubbers. Scientific badges were given to Barry Ashton, Rolf Tusing, Raymond Graber. John Clay and Kip Allen. The showman badge was also received by Kip Allen. Reireshments were served to the group. INJURED IN FALL Mrs. James Randall was injured , Sunday afternoon when riding in a pony cart. She was thrown from the cart onto the ground and suffered a cut on the back of her head which j took 13 stitches to close. She was taken to the Murphy Medical Center but was dismissed to her home Monday afternoon.

November Meeting Os American Legion Auxiliary Mrs. Bertha Frederickson was hostess to members of the American Legion auxiliary at her home j Tuesday night. There were 12 present forth? meeting. It was voted to send Christmas cards to the ones in service and also to the senior citizens. A Christmas gift will also ibe sent to their adopted box - at the ' Knightstown Home. The next meeting will be a $1 gift exchange and Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Morris Huffman. Mrs. Jack Hetler Hosts Eight Square Club Mental Health gifts for Christmas were collected at the meeting of the Eight Square Home Extension club which recently met in the home of Mrs. Jack Hetler. Vice president Mrs. Noel Rhinehart conducted the meeting in the absence of president Mrs. Charles Osborn I “Indiana Tax Laws" was the lesson given by Mrs. Dan Knepper. Mrs. George Armbruster had charge of meditations. For health and safety remarks, Mrs. Ellis Wildman discussed Myasthenia Gravis. Mrs. Russel Harmon gave hints on the care of house plants for her (garden suggestions. The 20 menders present answered roll call by telling of habits they would like to break. WMC Meets At Winona Lake Members of the Leesburg WMC met at the Missionary Residence for Retired Missionaries for their November meeting. There were 17 present for the pot luck supper with the retired missionaries as guests. Mrs. Pat Begthcl was the leader and Mrs. David Willett gave the Bible study. The missionary study was given by Mrs. Howard Immel. At the December meeting, the Tom i Julian family who is home from France, will be guests and will be presented Christmas gifts from the WMC. Funeral Rites In Chicago For Mrs. John Kiner i Mrs. John Kiner, who resided in Oswego but had gone to Chicago to ; spend the winter, passed away. Funeral rites were conducied in Chicago. CHOSEN HOMECOMING QUEEN Miss Pam Osborn, a senior at Grace college, was chosen Homecoming queen. She was crowned Friday night at th 3 basketball game. Potato chips, pop and homemade ice cream were the refreshments. L . Meeting Os Tri Arts Club Mrs. Darrell Phillips was hostess to members of the Tri Arts club Monday night at her home. She was assisted by Mrs. Clyde Bair. Devotions were given by Mrs. Avery Hall. Members answered roll ca!U by telling of an easy fix ahead dish for company. Mrs. Phillips showed pictures on Nassau and Mrs. Donald Boggs displayed souvenirs from Korea and told of the customs there. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be th? Christmas party at North Webster. COMMUNITY NEWS ; Spec. 5 Donal Bayne arrived in Chicago at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. He was met by his wife Susie and daughter Deanna and his mother. Mrs. Geraldine Bayne. He has been in Viet Nam for the past year. He reports he is very glad to be back in th? States. Mrs. Robert .-Ulen sang at the Oswego Baptist church Sunday morning. Robert .Ulen and Kay and Mrs. Kenneth Hartman also attendied the services.
