EDITORIALS Questions To Come

Is Indiana’s Constitution sufficient to meet the needs of today’s government? Is the 1851 document a workable guideline for modern government? It’s “possible that Hoosiers may be faced with a major constitutional revision, or a Constitutional Convention in a few years. There are only four older state constitutions in the United States, and three of those have been significantly amended so as to little resemble the original. Modernization and updating of our state constitution is not something to be token lightly. Not that today’s legislators

"At the Door a Knock", was emphasized as the program chairman. Mrs. Oscar Benson, read an article called. "Be Still and Know That I am God”. lack the wisdom to draft a workable document. but that it is a matter of serious concern. We can’t take any chances on leaping before' we look. Together with updating the constitution. is the matter of our General Assembly. Is 61 days every two years sufficient time to conduct the state’s business? Should the legislature meet every year, or for longer periods every two years? These are questions which Hoosiers will no doubt be asked to consider before long- — The Danville Gazette

Along Main Street By GEORGIA BUSTER Several big trees have been cut down in town recently. Mrs. Melville Smith had one cut in front of her house on Pearl street; one was cut at the Thomas Gilbert resident; and what I believe to be a walnut, in back of the Wawasee restaurant. With all the rain we had, the fields are not flooded, which means the water is going into the ground, not running off. We had quite a dry spell and it takes a little water to really soak the ground. The petty red stripped awning in front of Connolly's Market looked very bright with the rain on it. Did anyone get up at 4:25 a.m. last Wednesday to see the total eclipse of the moon? I did not, thought about it, but since I have seen them before, did wH think it worth the effort. Syracuse had its first snow when a few flakes fell on Wednesday about 10 am. This is early, but after the rain and cooling off, it could be expected. I had promised some of our subscribers who go south in the win-

ter that I would tell a little about the weather here during the winter months. Received two answers to my re- < quest about the Hoss Hills Archery < club. ] In the 300 block south on Huntington, I noticed red raspberries. ( Makes one think of summer. Hear my son Bob came in first on stunt flying at High Point, N. C., recently. Bob has a model airplane club at North Charleston, S. C. I have had a few days’ vacation. Hope my next column will not only be newsy, but have some surprises. S Legal NOTICE TO BIDDERS Qalofc of School BUSSES The Whitko Community School Corporation of Pierceton.
