Syracuse OES Holds First Meeting Syracuse chapter number 283 Order of Eastern Star held its first stated meeting since vacationing for July and August with worthy matron Mrs. Clem Lisor and worthy patron James Michael in the east. Associate matron Mrs. Robert Murray was in the west. The office of associate patron was declared vacant, an election held and Patrick Moore was elected to the office. Mrs. Frank Bates was installed as treasurer. A donation to the eye bank was granted. Instruction on signs and passes were received by worthy patron James Michael. It was birthday night, with six

SYRACUSE MAN RELEASED F ROM COUNTY JAIL Raymond J. Dilley, r 1 Syracuse, was released from the Kcsciusko county jaJ Wednesday morning after being charged with public intoxication Tuesday night by sheriff David .Andrews. members, including the worthy matron observing birthdays. Mrs. Lisor was honored by a skit by the star points and rememberd with a gift from the officers. The officers were in charge of the evening's refreshments. A cake decorated tor the worthy matron and arrangements of beautiful large dahlias decorated the table. The chairman was the associate matron Mrs. Robert Murray. There will be a practice on September 25 at 7:30 p.m. Initiation will be September 27. All officers are urged to attend.
Mrs. Earl Teghtmeyer Improving Following Surgery Word has been received by Mrs. Elmer Hamman of North Webster of the improved condition of Mrs. Earl (Margaret t Teghtmeyer. also of North Webster, foltowing surgery performed on Wednesday. Sept. 13. Mrs. Teghtmeyor entered the University of Michigan hospital at Ann Arbor, Mich., on Monday of last week. Syracuse Man Cited Following Accident William G. Markling, 32, Syracuse, was taken to the Goshen hospital last Wednesday, for observation. following a two-car crash near Syracuse. The accident occurcd at the intersection of the Pickwick road and county road 530 east, south of Syracuse. Markling told investigating officers, he had stopped at the stop sign and his foot slipped from the brake and hit the gas pedal. His car shot into the path of a car driven by Donald E. Novy, 34, r 2 Syracuse. Novy was taken to the Murphy Medical Center emergency room and released. Damage to the Novy car was listed at SSOO and to the Markling vehicle at $450. Markling was cited for failure to yield the right of way. State trooper Billy Jones investigated.
CLYDE LECHLITNER HONORED AT PICNIC Clyde Lechlitner of r 1 Milford was honored at a going-away picnic Saturday evening at the home of Paul Frankfether of r 1 Kimmell. The event was given by fellow employees of Mr. Lechlitner at M. L. DePew, Ligonier. Mr. Lechlitner was presented a gift. The Lechlitners will move to Bonita Springs, Fla., October 2. SYRACUSE LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray. Goshen. are at Lake Wawasee for a week's vacation. Louis Garrison has returned to the Soldiers and Sailors Home at Lafayette after being called to Syracuse by the death of a relative two weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bushong, Syracuse. were recent guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Groves at Pleasant Ridge.

Hoover and Doll have made a number of ingenious improvements on conveying cans to and from the nev-er-ending whir of the canners. According to manager Janies Cecil. the plant will can 230.000 eases of tomatoes this year, or 5.5 million
cans. They have 600 acres of tomatoes in the field and employ about 160 persons with a payroll of $35,000 per week in season. AU tomatoes go out under the continuous inspection of the U. S. department of agriculture.
