Bind observed their first birthday anniversaries at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Doty Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Culp of Elkhart have announced the engagement of their daughter Isabelle to Robert Price, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price of Milford. Mrs. Emory Drake and Mrs. Darrell Orn entertained the ladies of the Christian church at the home of the former Thursday evening at I a pink and blue shower in honor of Mrs. Stanley Custer. R. E. Siabaugh and Earl Miller returned home Tuesday evening from a fishing trip into Wisconsin. They reported good fishing. Howard Haab of Fort Knox, Ky., spent the week end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haab. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Dippon and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Dippon attended the state fair at Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Shirley Jean Black of Leesburg and Glenn D. Butler of Elkhart were married on Friday, Aug. 8, during a broadcast of the popular ABC network show, “Bride and Groom”. A fine English bull dog owned by Randall Dewart which was being kept at the Everett Butrick farm was struck by a car and killed last Thursday. Daniel M. Deeter, 76, died at 7 o’clock Friday morning at his home miles east of Milford. Immediate relatives surviving the deceased are his widow, formerly Permilia Coy and two children, Marion C. Deeter at home and Mrs. Nettie E. Stutzman of Syracuse. Miss Jobnie Bretherick of Milford who was employed at Syracuse during the summer, has hopes of being crowned “Miss Indiana” during the state’s Indian celebration to be held at Syracuse the latter part of the week. 40 Years Ago - September 1, 1927 Miss Mary L. Weybright. 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hastings of Milford, and Louis F. W’itman, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Witman of Elkhart, were married at the home of the bride’s parents at high noon on Sunday. A number of relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Barnes Friday evening, in honor of the sixth birthday of their daughter Joan. Miss Mattie Groves returned home last week from a six-weeks trip thru the western states. Miss Groves attended the National Teachers' Institute while in Seattle. Doty spent Wednesday with her aunt in Elkhart. Mr. and Mrs. Roe K. Heiser, Thornville, Ohio, moved their household goods into the Lutes property on north Main street last week. Mr. Heiser has a position in the Milford high school. Mrs. Walter Casper underwent a tonsil operation at the Warsaw hospital Thursday morning of last week. 50 Years Ago - August 30, 1917 Albert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Tom, died at his home at 9:30 Thursday evening at the age of 38. On last Thursday about 40 of the friends of Mrs. W. O. Dewart Lake Protective Ass'n. Re-elects Officers The Dewart Lake Protective Association held its annual meeting on Labor Day, Sept. 4, at the Dewart Lake Marina with about 40 members present. Officers were re-elected as follows: Leonard Vanes, president; Neii Farrdll, vice president; Mrs. Alan (Helen) McDonald, treasurer; and Mrs. Neil (Joan) Farrell, secretary. The prime purpose of this association is to maintain the water level at the officially established level, namely 7.70. Plans are being drawn up for a dam to be constructed at the present site of the old one on the northwest side of the 'lake. The conservation department has done auguring in this area and will make recommendations in about two weeks. After the meeting was adjourned, annual dues were collected. Fall Projects Discussed By Milford Club Mrs. Lowell Rassi of r 2 Milford was. hostess for the Silver Thimble club last Tuesday evening with Miss Edith Baumgartner as co-hostess for the regular September meeting. The collect for women was repeated by the 21 members and one guest, Mrs. Charles Kerlin. Mrs. Donald Hoover presided over the business session during which time reports were given by the secretary, treasurer, and committee chairmen. Projects for September and October were discussed with emphasis on the rummage sale to be held September 15 and 16 at the fire station. Penalty bottles for raising money w’ere distributed. Members were asked to wear their oldest hat which brought forth favorable and humorous comments from other members. Mrs. Arthur Haab received a prize for modeling hers. Those not wearing hats w hen they came were provided w’ith a variety of types by the hostess. Refreshments of chicken salad, assorted chocolates and drinks were served from the dining room table attractively arranged with colorful napkins, red candles and a basket of fruit. Mrs. Frank Beer, Jr., will be club hostess in October. I wish folks who feel they aren’t sinners wculdn’t come to church — they give us a bad name.
