Three Syracuse Officials Plan To Seek Re-Election

There appears to be some life left in the body’ politics at Syracuse as three town officials announced plans today to seek re-election to the office they hold.

The candidates, all Republicans, are: Byron Connolly and Mrs. Frank Bates, town board members, and Walter Calnon, clerk-treasurer. Their names will be presented at their party’s caucus to be held at 7:30 p.m. W'ednesday, Aug. 6, at the Syracuse Boy Scout cabin. The announcement came from new Republican town chairman Robert Insley. Two Won’t Run Vernon Beckman, representing ward five_ on the Syracuse town board, has stated flatly he would not be a candidate for re-election, and Loren Longenbaugh, representing ward four, has told friends he will not run. However, Willard Nusbaum, representing the second ward, has only “indicated” he would not be a candidate. Connolly, an uptown grocer in Syracuse, will be seeking his third term. He is currently president of the Syracuse town board and is representing the first ward. He was elected in 1959 in a historic write-in campaign in wliich he defeated J. Barton Cox. He was re-elected in the 1963 town election: Mrs. Bates, who represents the third ward, was appointed to the board in 1964 to sen e out the unexpired term of Walter Calnon, who resigned his board position to become clerk-treasurer when Mrs. Lois Schleeter suddenly resigned. Chairman Insley stated indications were the party would have good candidates from wards four and five. He reported interest has been shown by persons residing in those wards to seek the offices. He added that all Republicans over 21 years of age could and were urged to attend the caucus. He added. “I believe our board members during the past four; years have shown good judgment and have expended our money wisely.” MILFORD - LEESBURG Hospital Notes Rodney Goble, 16-month-oid son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Goble of r 2 Leesburg, was treated recently in the emergency room of Murphy Medical Center.
