tended Hoosier Girls’ State. My town was Hutchison City located in Magee Hall. The busy days and nights were filled with making new friends, acquiring an unequaled appreciation of our precious heritage of America, ami gaining and understanding our political institutions Through our successful encounters with the mechanics of government set forth here, we gained invaluable knowledge and experience in preparing for the responsibilities of citizenship awaiting us in the state and nation in the immediate future. Chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary, I was given the opportunity to experience these practical experiences for which I am indeed grateful. All the girls who attended tiie annual Girls' State were deeply proud to ha there, as this opportunity is only prov ided to a select few. Honor Day was Sunday. June 25. at 1.30 in the I. Why Wasn't Local Band On Youth Center Float? Dear Editor: I want to go back to Father’s Day and the Flotilla to ask just one thing from the Syracuse Youth Center along with whoever was responsible for the float entered by the Youth Center, Why were the Vars on this float? Surely there are a number of good combos in our own town (nothing against the Vars) who help this Youth Center to keep going! Surely not Warsaw! A Citizen

ANTICIPATIN’G THE CATCH — Coen Stephenson, a Syracuse resident, is pictured above anticipating a catch in one of the channels just north of the old Chinese Gardens on Kale Island. As a prospectus for future fishing, Edwin Peterson, owner of the Kale Island Bait House, informs us that the fishing is better in the channels on the north side of the Kale Island bridge. The channels to the south of the bridge are shallower and appear to be filling in, which in part, accounts for the less plentiful fishing, according to Mr. Peterson. A Mail-Journal staff photo.
