SCOUTS PLAN WESTERN I ADVENTURE FOR JUNE Eighteen scouts and scouters plan to attend Philmont scout ranch in New Mexico next month. The ranch, 140,000 acres in area, supports the ’ activities of over 19,000 senior scouts and explorers from the United States each summer. Planning to make the trip with others from the area are John LeCount and Joel Burkholder of troop 128, Syracuse.

20 YEARS AGO - MAY 29, 1947 Miss Hilda Dippon was the guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower given by Miss Mickey Galllay and Miss Helene Lentz at the home of Mrs. Hazel Lentz. Rev. Emory Klopenstein of Milford and Rev. Konkel of the Mount Tabor Church of God spent from Friday until Sunday evening at Finley, Ohio, where they attended graduation exercises of the Finley college. Rev. Robert Bates who comes to Milford from LaGrange will preach at the Christian church next Sunday. Mr. Bates wil be the regular minister of this church, taking the (dace of Rev. Harry Graham who resigned a few months ago. Since their return to Milford from Ames, lowa. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gibson have redecorated their house in the west part of town both on the inside and outside. Miss Ellen Cunningham and Miss Peggy Miller, Milford high school graduates have accepted positions in the office of the Nappanee Milling Company. Mr. and Mrs. Parker H. Phend entertained at bridge Monday evening and Mr. and Mrs. Burris Sharp. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Brown and Mr. and Mrs. William Baumgartner. Mrs. C. H. Downes and three children. Jerry, Billy and Dewey of Fort Wayne spent Saturday evening and Sunday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gibson in Milford. Miss Charlotte Custer. Miss Joan Musser. Niles, 55, of r 1 of Milford died Wednesday evening at his home northeast of town, his death being due to heart trouble with which he was striken on Monday of last week, A scaffold on which Charles Hollar of the carpenter firm known as McDonald and HoUar was working broke one day last week and Mr. HoUar was thrown to the ground with such force that three ribs were fractured Herbert V. Gawthrop of Leesburg and Miriam Fisher of Milford were among the Indiana university students awarded medals, cups and prizes at the annual President’s Review of the ROTC regiment in honor of William Lowe Bryan on Thursday afternoon. Dr. Vern Stockberger and his brother Hoy Stockberger of New Jersey have purchased the residence property of the late George Snow, owned by Roy Treesh, which they have moved onto the corner lot of the former’s residence property located at Catherine and East streets. 40 YEARS AGO - MAY 26. 1927 Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Rarick are the parents of a seven pound girl bom May 20 at the Van Dyke homestead at Winona Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Byrer of southeast of Milford are the parents of a daughter born early Saturday morning. The baby weighed eight pounds and has been named Annabelle. Mrs. Jesse Miller entertained a number of little folks at her home Saturday afternoon in honor of the sixth birthday anniversary of their daughter. Phyllis Jean. ‘ROOFS ON’ PARTY — Saturday night this new building at the junction of U. S. 6 and 33 in Ligonier was the scene of fun and entertainment. The building is being erected to house the new Atz Furniture store
the M. E church and several members of the primary department. Mrs. Martin Alexander spent a part of last week with her sister at Warsaw. On Monday she accompanied her daughter Mrs. Joseph Reiniche to South Bend where they spent the day with John Brumbaugh and wife, the latter being a daughter. Mrs. Isaac Mitchell gave a dinner Sunday honoring the 60th birthday of her husband. Her guests were her two sons Rex Miller of Syracuse and Jesse Miller and their families. Since the heavy rains Monday night an onion field owned by James Myers and located near Wawasee lake is under two feet of water. A 20 foot washout under a concrete road in that vicinity has also been reported. 50 YEARS AGO-MAY 24, 1917 Because of the high cost of everything. the undersigned physicians of Milford are compelled to ask the following fees, effective June 1 for services inside the corporation. Stockberger and Dr. F. J. Young. Lightning struck a chicken house belonging to Floyd Kittson at Syracuse Saturday night. About 60 chickens burned with the building. Don Hammond left for Gary Friday morning having accepted a position in the office as an assistant bookkeeper of the big still mills. Miss Thelma Miller and her sister Dessie have leased the residence on James street known as the property of Mrs. John Smith. They will go to housekeeping as soon as the house is repaired. Kosciusko county will be called upon to furnish in the nieghborhood of 180 men as its share of the 500.000 men to be raised in the United States by selective draft. This estimate is not official being based entirely upon the figures given out by the war department. CADET JAMES E. McCLEARY Warsaw Man In Graduating Class At Air Force? Academy U. S. AIR FORCE AC.ADEMY, Colo. — James E. McCleary, son of Dr. and Mrs. Virgil A. McCleary of 1830 N. Bay Dr., Warsaw, Ind., is among the more thap 500 cadets in this year’s U. S. air's force academy graduating class. He will receive his bachelor of science degree and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U. S. air force June 7. Cadet McCleary majored in aeronautics and engineering sciences and received special recognition at the academy by lettering in golf. The cadet has been selected for navigator training at Mather AFB, Calif. He is a 1961 graduate of Warsaw high school, where he lettered in basketball, baseball and golf. Cadet McCleary attended Purdue university. West Lafayette, prior to entering the academy and is a member of Delta Tau Delta. Advertising Doesn’t Cost, It Pays! condition.
