Three Die In TrainCar Accident Friday
Three Goshen residents were killed instantly at 46 30 pm Friday when their Corvair station wagon was struck by the Capital Limited at the Milford Junction crossing. Dead are Ninfa Garcia, 27, 1501 M jwuth Main street; her brother. Isaias S. Garcia. 22. same address; and James H. Dominic. 34. 212 New street. The only witnesses were the engineer and conductor of train 1443 — Edward Tuck of Gary and Merle Westfall of Garrett. Tucker, the engineer. told investigating officers tl-at Mrs. Garcia was the driver of the station wagon and that the two men were passengers The Garcia vehicle was going south on Old Slate Road and apparently stopped in the middle of the tracks. The crossing is guarded ' only by railroad crossing signs, however. the view is dear. Mr. Tuck told officers that he saw the vehicle approach and sud- i deniy come to a complete stop in * the middle of the tracks. The train s I emergency breaks were applied but i the fast eastbound passenger train could not be stopped in time. No reason was given as to why ; the car was stopped on the tracks. The rear of the vehicle was sheared upon impact and thrown to the north side of the railroad right of way. Mrs Garcias mutilated body was found a short distance east of , the junction box. another was found several blocks east of the crossing and the third was found near a utility pole just east of the crossing. The train traveled three-quarters of a mile east before it was stopped.! The front of the auto was earned , the entire distance on the front of the engine. It lias not been determined where the trio was headed, although they had friends in the Milford area. Friends identified the bodies of Ninfa and Isaias Garcia, but positive identification of Dominick was withheld for several hours. It was after midnight before his father and brothers were notified at New Castle. Garcia was employed by the Goshen Milk Division, Dominic by IXL and Mrs. Garcia by Land 0* Goshen. Ninfa Garcia was born in Corpus Christi. Tex., on June 30, 1999. The family moved to Goshen from Bristol aixxX five months ago, coming to the county from Texas. She is survived by two sons. Albert. 12 and Antonio, five, both at home; her parents, Virginio and Sara Garcia; five brothers. Milton Md Virginio. both of Corpus Christi and Israel, Victor and David, all of Goshen. Isaias WM born in Corpus Christi on March M, 1945. Both he and his sister were members of the Church of the Naiarene m Corpus Christi Dominic was born in New Castle on September 11. 1982. Lester Young of the North Winona Church of the Brethren was in charge of services Sunday, May 21, at the Camp Creek Church of the Brethren on sr 19 when Orvil Kilmer of r 1 was licensed and installed as minister. As Mr. and Mrs. Kilmer kneeled at the front of the ’church, Rev. Young placed his hands on their heads and offered the dedication and consecration. All-Church Cook-Out Held Sunday At Bethel An all-church codc-out was held on Sunday noon at the Bethel church in Milford. Each person prepared his own “foil dinner’’ which was cooked over an open fire. Marshmallow “smores” were served for dessert. Several families interested in camping set up their campers and tents in the church yard. The group viewed the camping equipment and toured the campers. A color film on Canada was shown. Mrs. Fred Slabaugh and Linda Kesler planned the meal and made arrangements for the day. N.A.B. to study groupjpg of commercials.
