Hie highlight of the evening will come at 9 p.m. at which time we will select our Winter Festival | queen. We are inviting two candb I dates from each of our three Lakeland district schools. We will have a judging at the Youth Center to j determine oar queen and her court. Details will be given each school shortly as to how we will go about our contest , I Our youth governing board held another meeting Sunday in preparation for this gala event. We certainly hope this will be the finest affair of the year. It will be coats and ties for the boys ‘no sweaters' and dressy dresses for the girls. Each candidate w-.U have an escort of her choice, and when they arrive at the Youth Center the candidate will receive a corsage and the escorts a boutonniere. The queen of the ball will receive a Large bouquet and a beautiful silver and jeweled crown. Each of the candidates will receive a necklace as a memento of the occasion. A wonderful thing liappened when I checked on our necklaces. Mr. Elstrod of the Country Corner Gifts told me to pick out what I needed and he would donate than. It’s folks like these who are interested in our youth today, that help make our Youth Center successful. All in all, folks, it looks like this "Snow Ball" is going to be a real great event. You folks in the Lakeland School district be on the lookout for the two prettiest girls in your school and make arrangements to present them at the grand affair. -The hardest thing airman can do," said Josh Billings, "is to fafi down on the ice when it’s slippery and get up and praise the Lord."

CONTEST SET FOR FEBRUARY 11 The instrumental contest which was scheduled for January 28 at Argos will be held on February 11. It was postponed when the snow and sleet storm brought the area to a standsill. SLOW MOVING VEHICLE SAFETY BILL INTRODUCED A highway safety bill has been introduced in the Indiana State Senate that would phase out the red flag required on slow’ moving vehicles in favor of a special reflective fluorescent symbol. The bill was introduced by Senator William W. Erwin, Republican. Etna Green. The bill is supported by the Indiana Farm Bureau and the Farm Safety Council, as well as by manystate law enforcement and safety organizations. Under the bill, slowmoving vehicles such as farm reactors, which are now required to display a red flag, will have one year from passage of the law to switch to the new safety emblem. The slow moving vehicle symbol is a fluorescent orange triangle bounded by red bars. “This new symbol should be a great improvement and ‘contribute to safe conditions for everyone who uses our highways,” Senator Erwin said. In tests by Purdue university safety experts in cooperation with the Indiana State Police, the new emblem was found to be the onlyone tested that was visible at a distance of 500 feet and more under conditions of darkness and dusk as well as daylight. “Part of the problem has been." Senator Erwin said, “that motorists tend to overestimate the distance to a red flag. This new symbol. w-ith its high visibility, will give drivers much more accurate judgment of distances.” Senator Erwin. 41, who operates farms in Kosciusko and Marshall counties, s-.id that these emblems cost about the same as red flags and Lie ; wc*- more durable. The bill was introduced January 10. as S. B. 45. co-sponsored by Senator J. J. Bailey. Democrat. Anderson. Accident At RR Crossing Results In $650 Damage Leon B. Himelstein of Fort Wayne stopoed his car at the B and Q railroad crossing last Thursday and the rear of his car was hit by Mrs. Ruth M. Sholty of Syracuse who could not stop her car in time to avoid the collision. Damage to the Himelstein i vehicle was estimated at $425. Damage to Mrs. Sholty’s car was $225. Mr. Himelstein and a passenger in his car. Ron Owen, both received whiplash inpuries. Before the cars were moved a G* W Food Products truck hit the left rear fender of Mrs. Sholty’s car. No damages were reported, however.
